THREE CREIGHTON STUDENT-ATHLETES HIGHLIGHT 2010-2011 JESUIT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM April 11, 2011 Players from Creighton University make up half of the 2010-2011 National Jesuit All-Academic Women’s Basketball Team that was announced today by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Jesuit Basketball Spot- light. The Bluejays, who completed a successful season that ended in the NIT, are represented on the squad by Sam Schuett (Sr., F, Omaha, NE), Kellie Nelson (Sr., C, Omaha, NE), and Kelsey Woodard (Sr., G, Bellevue, NE). All three student- athletes earned academic honors in the Missouri Valley Conference and were recognized by Capital One and CoSIDA within their national district. Joining the Creighton trio on the National Jesuit All-Academic Team are Janelle Bekkering (Gonzaga, Sr., G/F, Taber, Alberta), Lauren Luebbe (Regis, Sr., F, Rochester, MN), and Jessica Vargas (Loyola Marymount, Gr., G, Flagstaff, AZ). Keiva Council (Loyola New Orleans)and Carolyn Swords (Boston College), who were named to the 2010-2011 All-Jesuit team recently, also earned honorable-mention status on the All-Academic team, joining Micayla Drysdale of Canisius, Whitney Fremeau of Holy Cross, Lynleigh Hughes of Spring Hill, and Katie Knox of John Carroll. The All-Jesuit Team represents student-athletes from the 28 Jesuit colleges spread across the United States that play basketball on all three levels of the NCAA and also in the NAIA. They share the mission of Jesuit education, founded nearly 500 years ago under the principles of St. Ignatius Loyola to educate young people to become men and women dedicated to service and compassionate leadership.
