MPD2010 - ATC18RHA MULTI-PROJECT WAFER

MPW OBJECTIVES

 For the ATC18RHA ASIC series

A service for ANY European Space Customer

Aims at lowering the non recurring manufacturing costs of ASIC development by amortizing them (reticules and silicon) through several ASIC designs

Further more, the same set of reticules can be used for Prototypes and Flight Models

MPD2010 - ATC18RHA MULTI-PROJECT WAFER

GENERAL INFO (1/2)

There are no design constraints specific to SMPW

ATC18RHA design kit applies without restrictions

Each design is developed independently of the others

But new synchronization milestones are created

SMPW is a Space foundry service

The SMPW is limited to reticules and wafers manufacturing

1 reticules set for all the designs embarked

All embarked designs are manufactured on each wafer

At fab out, wafers lot is split in sub-lots, one for each design

ESA absorbs the masks and silicon run costs for ESA projects only

MPD2010 - ATC18RHA MULTI-PROJECT WAFER

GENERAL INFO (2/2)

The SMPW runs are launched at fix dates made public in advance to the space community

 Each run includes

- The reticules manufacturing

- 1 Si lot with priority for prototyping

Complementary lots for Flight Models can be launched

- With the same reticules

- Without date limitation

Specific milestones have been added in the ATC18RHA design flow

SPECIFIC MILESTONES (1/4)

 RTE: Request To Embark

Complementarily to the technical information provided for the 1st level feasibility study

The customer must provide Atmel with the necessary information for the quotation based on the use of the SMPW

- The space project name

- The targeted SMPW run number

If eligible to an ESA reserved SMPW run, the customer provides the filled in RTE document and Atmel relays it to ESA for approval

SPECIFIC MILESTONES (3/4)

 LRCD: Logic Review Closing Date

A fixed date, published in advance ([email protected])

All the Logic Reviews have to be completed by then

The “LR Closing Date” is the latest date for confirming

- The SMPW run embarking approval (ESA)

- The commitment to embark on the agreed planning (Customer + Atmel)

 The reticule organization is frozen

The ESA cancellation charges apply from then onwards (on top of the standard Atmel ones)

 1 CUSTOMER

 2 ASIC’s + ATC18RHA SEC & TCV

- 1 ATC18RHA_504 for R&D space project

- 1 ATC18RHA_324 for Flight Models production

The DRCD was driven by the DR of the most complex ASIC: December 2007

From the design to the prototypes delivery: there was no identified issues linked to the SMPW procedures

The SMPW management was easier due to the fact that only one customer was involved

CONCLUSIONS (2)

Once the ESA runs have been used Atmel will keep offering an SMPW service based on the following business conditions

Either for one customer or multiple customers

No predefined/committed run launch date until a minimum of 2 ASICs are identified

The mask and silicon cost will be charged to the users of an MPW run (it was paid by ESA until now)

The MPW logistic and milestones will remain the same

Once an MPW run will be open (2 ASIC), R & D ASIC can consider to embark
