2010 WHITE & RED BURGUNDY

PART 2

Foreword by Ross Duke

This is our final catalogue for 2012 which brings to a finale the 2010 Burgundy vintage. And what a beauty it is! We add a new name to our portfolio – Domaine de Suremain of Mercurey, plus a rare but classic, old variety of Burgundy the Cesar! We also include an old favourite from Chambolle-Musigny – Digioia-Royer, the sublime wines from Jean-Claude Bachelet which rolls onto the fabulous Domaine D’Angerville of Volnay. We then ease up the Cote de Nuits to visit Thibaut Liger-Belair en route to one of the stand-outs of the vintage – Domaine Amiot of Morey-St-Denis. Our final port of call is the outstanding Domaine Fourrier to then finish at Marsannay to the delightful and ever so reliable Domaine Bart. Now that’s not too bad to finish the year off is it??

The biggest problem we face with this offer is that the allocations are well down on normal so be patient to receive our confirmation of all orders as we want to be fair to everyone.

Many of you have now had the opportunity of assessing the 2010 vintage, both red and white. We have received many calls from a lot of you extolling the virtue of the 2010 result AND I can assure you they will get even better in the bottle over the next 10-12 years with many wines holding on even longer. It is a great year and, with the exchange rate, prices are still reasonable despite some growers having to increase many wines in light of the small harvest they experienced.

We are also shipping additional stocks of Champagne and other wines to carry us up to Christmas so if there is something else you require just give us a call to enquire.

Thank you also for your recent support of the ‘Spring Celebration Catalogue’ which was very popular indeed

Don’t forget the fantastic tasting with Thierry Brouin of Clos des Lambrays as bookings have been very brisk to date.

We wish you all a great Christmas and a happy and successful New Year.

STOP PRESS!!

THIBAULT LIGER-BELAIRS MOULIN A VENT MADE THE SHIPMENT AND WHAT BEAUTIES!!!!

THE WEATHER: The 2010 vintage in Burgundy is a success despite the delicate growing conditions. The age-old history and experience acquired by the winegrowers has, more than ever, borne fruit.

This year, the level of maturity and the health of the vines were vital in choosing the date of the harvest. Although the vintage usually takes place by colour (traditionally red then white), the winegrowers were particularly attentive to the quality, alternated between red and white plots.

The small yields obtained are both a result of the vignerons controlled pruning, the colour and millerandage caused by the climatic conditions in the spring, and the strict selection performed both on the vine and in the cellar. The winemakers were then able to adjust their technique on the harvested grapes to unveil the fine balance between sugar and acidity, without harming the aromatic expression.

There is no doubt that the 2010 Burgundy wines hold some nice surprises for wine enthusiasts!

THE MARKET: Demand for Burgundy continues to grow and grow and with a small harvest like 2010 places high demand on its wines to all parts of the world. Many importers put out very early offers to gage demand and many reported complete sell outs. Whilst others had to allocate orders severely.

THE WINES: Both white and red Burgundy from 2010 is immediately impressive and finely structured wines. Importantly they exude strong ‘terroir’ character depicting both village and Cru accurately.

PRICES: Considering the low volume produced I was worried that prices would increase significantly to make up for the reduction in the growers income but, thankfully, the increases were minor whilst some wines remained the same as 2009.

OUR SELECTIONS: We have an excellent range of Burgundies to choose from covering: BOURGOGNE BLANC – 2 BOURGOGNE ROUGE – 4 VILLAGE – 14 * PREMIER CRUS – 31 * GRAND CRUS – 9

CONCLUSION: I have no hesitation in recommending this vintage as a ‘classical’ Burgundian year. It sits handsomely when compared with 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009. In several instances it exceeds some of the aforementioned years!

DOMAINE MAUPERTHUIS

Massangis

Following the introduction of Mauperthuis white Burgundies we are delighted to now introduce you to the very rare red grape variety César. Guess who brought this grape to France??? The Romans of course and for some time this variety was referred to as Romain and was planted and cultivated in the Yonne not far from Chablis. This vine is quite sensitive to frosts and ripens rather less readily than Pinot Noir. It can still be found in very small quantities in Irancy but is generally blended with Pinot Noir. However, the Mauperthuis is 100% César and is normally higher in tannin than the noble red grape and always deeper in colour as well. This 2010 model is quite lush on the middle palate and quite velvety and long. The fruit character on the nose and taste is plum and strawberry like with mild acidity and very, very drinkable even now. However, I think it will develop some more in bottle and become silky over time. No novelty here but a serious wine of style and charm AND great value as well!!!

DOMAINE DE SUREMAIN

Mercurey

In the heart of Burgundy, Domaine de Suremain is located in the centre of the village of

Mercurey at the Chateau de Bourgneuf. In this beautiful landscape, characteristic of the Val

d’Or (valley of gold), the name Mercurey is the most renowned of the Cote Chalonnaise, and

one of the most important appellations of Burgundy. Depending on the production and

hillside, exposure of the vine and the geology, the wines express themselves differently.

There is not one Mercurey rather many different Mercuries due to their complexity. Of the

600 hectares of the appellation 20% of the climates are classified 1st Cru. Domaine de

Suremain in this context lies at 18 hectares with 90% devoted to Pinot Noir with a small

portion to Chardonnay. These three wines are a lovely introduction to this impressive

Domaine.

DOMAINE DE SUREMAIN 2010 MERCUREY

‘Bright, deep scarlet colour. The nose is quite fragrant and flowery

with a slight sweetness. The palate recognises itself immediately

with lots of velvety red berry fruits combined with mild, soft

tannins. The length of flavour is excellent finishing fine and creamy.

An irresistible style that is well above village quality.’

$26.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1806 (landed $29.90)

DOMAINE DE SUREMAIN 2010 MERCUREY ‘CLOS L’EVEQUE ‘

1er CRU

‘Similar colour and depth as the village wine. The nose is more

subdued for now. The palate is very well structured with more body

and tannin, suited for ageing. Nice weight and firmer on the finish.

Will be excellent in 5 to 8 years in the bottle.’

$36.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1807 (landed $41.40)

DOMAINE DE SUREMAIN 2010 MERCUREYAZENAY’ 1er CRU

‘Deeper and darker in colour. The flavour impact is immediate with

crisper acidity and firm tannin on the finish. Highly structured wine

of excellent quality BUT needs time and patience. Will be an

excellent Pinot Noir in 6-8 years.’

$38.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1808 (landed $43.70)

DOMAINE JEAN-CLAUDE BACHELET

Saint Aubin

Another great tasting at this ever rising producer. As the ‘boys’ get more familiar with their

new cuverie (winery) they are fine tuning their wines across the range from white to red

Burgundy. The expression of ‘terroir’ is particularly noted here as each wine has its own

style and personality. For doubters of ‘terroir’ get off your bum and visit this domaine and if

you cannot agree then you will need a palate re-tread!! In summary the whites were just

outstanding and such value for quality. The reds are simply delicious but sadly, we don’t

have a lot to go around so allocation will be vital. What can I say about this Domaine as my

views should be well known now AND for those that have not experienced these classic

Burgundy’s you are really missing out on a treat! Now let’s get into my notes.....

BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY 2010

‘Gorgeous from the colour, nose and palate. Such style, class and beautifully balanced.

Approachable now but it will fill out more in the bottle. Sensational value!’

$25.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1809 (landed $28.75)

SAINT- AUBIN 2010 ‘LES CHAMPLOTS’ 1er Cru

‘That inspiring green/gold colour promises so much

on the palate and guess what? It delivers with

lime/grapefruit flavour and strong minerality. Fine

balance though and long palate.’

$45.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1810 (landed $51.75)

SAINT- AUBIN 2010 ‘LES CHARMOIS’1er CRU

‘Similar colour, thank you. But slightly different with more lime/lemon and a touch of

honey which indicates riper fruit. The balance is there and it lingers after tasting. Good sign

as well!’

$45.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1811 (landed $51.75)

SAINT- AUBIN 2010 ‘LES MURGERS DES DENT DE CHIEN’ 1er CRU

‘Colour is greener than gold and a more ‘terroir’ driven wine with 8 centimetres of limestone

soils with old vines to boot. This is just an outstanding white Burgundy that is so under-

rated. Don’t tell anyone so we can drink the lot of it. A classic!’

$54.50/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1812 (landed $62.70)

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘LES ENSIGNERES’

BLANC

‘We go down to Chassagne where the acid levels are lower and the

fruit riper and richer. More pears and honey here but still long on

the palate and appealing.’

$59.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1813 (landed $67.85)

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘LES MACHERELLES’ BLANC 1er CRU

‘Very green colour and the nose is a bit closed which is to be expected as it is still in tank. A

weighty wine and long on the palate but a bit closed for now. Potential!’

$68.50/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1814 (landed $78.80)

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘LES BOUDRIOTTE’ 1er BLANC

‘This is the ripest of the Chassagne’s which is not a surprise given its exposed location in the

village. A very, very long palate but balanced by reasonable acid.’

$77.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1815 (landed $88.55)

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘BLANCHOT DESSUS’ 1er BLANC

‘Excellent colour – guess what? Very green and a little gold. A pineapple nose and flavour

with some nutmeg, hence a very complex palate. Excellent white Burgundy of great class

with fine balance and texture. Fabulous!’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$112.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1816 (landed $128.80)

PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘LES AUBUES’ ‘Now this is very green and vibrant. The nose is reserved for now but there is ripe and rich fruit more towards lime/grapefruit with crisp acidity and somewhat tight now BUT look out with bottle age!’

$60.50/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1817 (landed $69.60)

PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘SOUS LE PUITS’ 1er CRU ‘GREEN’GOLD START – PROMISING. Nose subdued. Hell it fills out with honey and peaches on the palate and the acid is fine and fulsome? Keep this one in the cellar for 5 years and surprise your guests.’

$84.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1818 (landed $96.60)

BIENVENUE BATARD MONTRACHET 2010, GRAND CRU ‘So complex and restrained. Just needs keeping up to 10 years or more and it will blow you away.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated $216.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1819 (landed $248.40) BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2010 ‘Bright ruby colour with a sweet floral nose. Gentle, red berry fruit palate with soft and round tannins that make it so easy to drink and enjoy right now. It will fill out more and develop a silky texture over the next 5 years. Excellent balance and super value!’

$23.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1820 (landed $26.45)

SAINT- AUBIN 2010 ‘DERRIERE LA TOUR’ 1er CRU ‘Very deep ruby colour and very closed at this tasting. The structure is there as well as the intensity of the palate. Excellent wine but needs time.’

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2010 ROUGE ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’ ‘Very deep ruby colour. The 50 year old vines give this wine a weight and concentration that is just so attractive and a great favourite of mine. There is high fruit tannin to give it weight and strength and potential for ageing. Just a fabulous wine as per usual. Who said Chassagne was famous for white wines?’

$35.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1822 (landed $40.25)

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2010 ‘LA BOUDRIOTTE’ 1er CRU ROUGE ‘A classy act from colour, nose to palate. Exquisite balance and it shows what can be achieved in Chassagne with Pinot Noir in sensitive hands. Great potential in the bottle as well up to 10 years.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated $58.00/bt Pre-Arrival Code: 1823 (landed $66.70)

Benoit and Jean-Baptiste have spoiled us, again by

giving the last 20 cases of the beautiful 2009

Chassagne - Montrachet Rouge ‘VV’ which sold

out in a flash last year. When clients actually tasted

this wine we received many anxious calls to secure

more stock. Well now we have some!! Over to you.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2009 ROUGE ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’

My notes of last year……

‘Here we have 35-40 year old vines which make so much difference with Pinot Noir above

all red grape varieties. The deep root structure results in a fruit quality that is rounder,

penetrating and silky smooth. One of the great values of the vintage!!!’

DOMAINE MARQUIS

D’ANGERVILLE

Volnay

The renovating works continue to its final stages following 3 - 4 years of repair, new

buildings and additional cellar space. The domaine looks a picture! The transition to bio -

dynamic culture is well established and several wines have had their suit changed in style

and expression. Therefore a highly interesting and challenging tasting.

BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2010

‘Medium depth of crimson red. Nice floral nose that follows on to a highly enjoyable and

fresh Pinot with more strawberry nuance with a soft, clean finish. Good for the early to

medium term’

$37.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1824 (landed $42.55)

VOLNAY 2010 ‘CLOS DES ANGLES’ 1er CRU

‘Darker red colour. Spicy (20% new oak of higher toast) lively palate with good acidity and

round tannic finish.’ Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$88.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1825 (landed $101.20)

VOLNAY 2010 ‘FREMIETS’ 1er CRU

‘Dark ruby. Closed nose for now which is to be expected. The ‘Fremiets’ has been given an

overhaul over the last few years by winemaker Francois Duvier. It has more depth and

layers of character rather than the softer style that Jacques D’Angerville preferred. A more

complex and substantial style has emerged and sits comfortably with all the other Premiers

Cru.’

$89.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1826 (landed $102.35)

Jaques D’Angerville passed away before the 2003 vintage. This cross was placed in Volnay’s cemetery for his funeral service to mark the place that his head stone would later replace. Each year I visit his grave stone with a half bottle of Clos Des Ducs and sit and chat to him as he was a very close friend. Rest in peace Jacques.

DOMAINE THIBAULT LIGER-BELAIR

Nuits St Georges

It was great to catch up

with Thibault following his

quick visit to us in

Australia in early February.

He kindly invited me to his

‘La Paulee’ during the

Grands Jours whereupon

he feted 50 of his fans with

some incredible wines and

food for a memorable

night. The highlight was

the 1934 Nuits St Georges ‘Les Saint Georges’ laced with the likes of Clos Vougeot, Corton

Renards and a lazy Richebourg. Somebody has to do it?

I followed the ‘La Paulee’ with an extensive ‘barrel’ tasting of his 2010 wines and a quick

sneak of 2011. What a further experience!!

‘LA CHARMOTTE’ 2010 NUITS ST GEORGES

‘This vineyard is located on the north side of the town of Nuits St Georges heading towards

Vosne-Romanée. A deep brooding red colour greets one but the palate is so, so soft and

round. It has great concentration of flavour; with minerals, cherries and strawberry fruits.

What a wine for a village type and certainly the best ‘Charmotte’ I have encountered with

Thibault.’

$73.80/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1832 (landed $84.90)

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010 ‘LA CROIX DES CHAMPS’

‘Clay and limestone make up the soil profile from this impressive village Gevrey. Good

weight and very expressive.’

$73.80/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1833 (landed $84.90)

VOSNE-ROMANEE 2010 ‘AUX REAS’ Village lieu dites

‘Very much an earthy ‘terroir’ driven red with great weight of fruit and a mineral bite but,

wait for it, soft enduring tannins. A ripe and inviting village wine playing above its weight.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$98.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1834 (landed $112.70)

CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2010 ‘LES GRUENCHERS’ 1er CRU

located just near Bonnes Mares, Les Fuees and Les Amoureuse is not far away either.’

$119.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1835 (landed $136.85)

CHARMES CHAMBERTIN 2010 GRAND CRU

’45 year old vines here. Dark red colour again. Flowery nose and quite fragrant. Very elegant

and feminine style. Very, very fine finish. Still a bit closed so the palate will open up in the

bottle come 2-3 years.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

CORTON RENARDES 2010 GRAND CRU

‘Big colour as expected. Outstanding palate laced with mineral intensity (limestone and clay soil) less tannin grip and very elegant finish. Keeper.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated $133.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1837 (landed $152.95)

CLOS VOUGEOT 2010 GRAND CRU ‘A stunning Burgundy of such elegant proportions from start to finish. Now this is real Grand Cru quality.’ Strictly limited and will have to be allocated $168.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1838 (landed $193.20)

NUITS ST GEORGES’ 2010 ‘LES SAINT GEORGES’ 1er CRU

‘Always served after the last Grand Cru wine before the Richebourg that is what Thibault

thinks of his cherished ‘Les St Georges’. And it lives up to expectations. Such a powerful

expression of Pinot Noir, combining spice, pepper and chocolate notes and red berry fruits.

So, so complex and will be a classic!’

$130.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1839 (landed $149.50)

RICHEBOURG 2010 GRAND CRU

‘The vines here go back to 1936!! A complex amalgam of 1/3 new oak is

used whilst 2/3rds are 1 year old barrels and very naturally made following

bio-dynamic principles throughout. Richebourg is an extraordinary

Burgundy that does not have a peer!’

STOP PRESS!!!

THIBAULT BOTTLED BOTH OF HIS MARVELLOUS MOULIN A VENT

BEAUJOLAIS WINES TO MAKE THIS SHIPMENT!!

Both of these wines are not your usual bubble gum aroma of the Gamay grape and the

normal flowery and soft palate. The reason is that Thibault has fermented his Gamay in the

traditional Burgundian manner and not the Beaujolais ‘Maceration Carbonique’. This

method allows for the grapes to be picked in whole bunches then placed into a stainless steel

tank that has carbon dioxide gas pumped into it. After a few hours the gas stimulates the

skins and activates a fermentation within the grape. The affect of this leeches out the

colouring matter under the skins and the internal fermentation allows a high aromatic

aroma. When the alcohol degree gets to around 2.5% to 3% the berries burst then carry out

the final ferment in the normal way. However when using the traditional method the results

are amazingly different and the finished wines have more structure and style and last longer

in the bottle. This method was used some 100 years ago and to my knowledge, Thibault is

on his own, venturing into the past. You must certainly try these two gorgeous wines but be

quick as we don’t have a lot of stock!

MOULIN A VENT 2010 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’

‘Just so juicy and round and tastes like a Gamay/Pinot Noir blend. Lovely texture and great

length. Superb balance and will fill out more in bottle. I call this a gulper as it is so moorish!’

$36.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1867 (landed $41.40)

MOULIN A VENT 2010 ‘LA ROCHE’

‘A beautifully located vineyard with perfect

exposure to the sun with excellent drainage and

less rich top soil. What a result in the glass. Deep

purple colour which supports its location and

sublime balance and almost Pinot like fruit

quality.’

DOMAINE PIERRE AMIOT

Morey St Denis

A wonderful tasting and visit as I learnt a lot about Jean-Louis philosophy in viticulture and

winemaking. It is all in the bottle for these excellent and pure Pinot Noirs of stunning

quality. One starts with a wallop at Village level then rises through four top quality Premiers

Cru – AUX CHARMES, MILLANDS, RUCHOTS from Morey St Denis then one is knocked

out by Premier Cru Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Les Combottes’ to be then followed by their

breathtaking Grand Cru Clos de la Roche. Even Thierry Brouin (Clos des Lambrays)

admitted that Pierre Amiot was the best Clos de la Roche made and the greatest value of

them all!! Not bad?

MOREY ST DENIS 2010 VILLAGE

‘Very intense dark ruby colour. A highly concentrated palate with little tannin but

round and appealing even now. Top quality wine for a humble village appellation.’

$45.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1843 (landed $51.75)

MOREY ST DENIS 2010 ‘AUX CHARMES’ 1er CRU

‘Deep ruby colour. High level of fruit with a nice, even balance with a little

tannin on the finish leaving a clean, fresh palate.’

$70.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1844 (landed $80.50)

MOREY ST DENIS 2010 ‘LES MILLANDES’ 1er CRU

‘Slightly deeper colour again'. This is a bigger more forceful wine with definite red

berry fruit flavour and excellent length.’

$70.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1845 (landed $80.50)

MOREY ST DENIS 2010 ‘LES RUCHOTS’ 1er CRU

‘Dark ruby colour. This is delicious even now! Fine balance of fruit to acid to tannin ratio. A

blockbuster of a Pinot laden with wild berry fruit and red berry flavours to boot!

Outstanding wine.’

$74.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1846 (landed $85.10)

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010 LES COMBOTTES’ 1er CRU

‘Inky red colour. Unfortunately the nose and palate was closed so I concentrated on the

structure of the palate. Every aspect of fruit weight, tannin and acid were all on song. This

wine will arise significantly over the next 6-12 months in bottle. Previous tasting last year

showed a marvellous wine of power and deft balance.’

$86.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1847 (landed $99.90)

CLOS DE LA ROCHE 2010 GRAND CRU

‘The darkest red colour of the range. Jean-

Louis has employed 50% of new oak which the

wine absorbs with ease. A lovely, silky palate

of complex detail with fine balance and

extraordinary length. Certainly a keeper up to

15 years!’

$119.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1848(landed $136.85)

DOMAINE DIGIOIA-ROYER

Chambolle-Musigny

We had lost contact with Michel Digioia over the past 2 years so I set about to solve the problem and visited the Domaine after the Grands Jours. Michel was in great form as he paraded his lovely Chambolle wines to me from cellar to cellar. This is an impressive result and one in which you will all discover but be quick quantities are quite small!

CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2010 VILLAGE

‘Very intense black/red colour. The intensity follows faithfully onto the palate but there is softness and roundness plus silk. Excellent quality from start to finish.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$64.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1841 (landed $73.60)

CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2010 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’ ‘FREMIERES’ (LIEU DITES)

‘Darker red colour than the village. This is a bigger wine but the velvety texture and more weight of fruit is ever so engaging. A formidable Pinot Noir of exciting proportions.’

$75.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1842 (landed $86.25)

DOMAINE FOURRIER

Gevrey-Chambertin

Jean-Marie Fourrier never rests on his laurels and is always looking to tweak his wines even

further to extract even more finesse and character into the range. The wines of 2010 are just

so sublime. After completing the tasting I asked Jean-Marie if we could start again as they

were just so outstanding in quality and oozing ‘terroir’ and great bottle potential. For such a

difficult and demanding growing season most vignerons are just so surprised and grateful

for what has become of their 2010 wines. The difficulty for us will be to spread the small

volume around to as many loyal clients that we can. Be patient please as you know we will

work in everyone’s fairest and best interest.

2010 BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY

‘Jean-Marie’s Chardonnay grows in style and

stature each time I taste it. This is more like a

Chablis but with a riper middle palate. The

minerality is there in force with pure

grapefruit/lemon fruit and clean and long on the

palate.’

$24.35/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1849 (landed $28.00)

CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2010 VILLAGE

‘Over the last 3 years the Chambolle wines of Domaine Fourrier have stolen the show at my

barrel tastings and 2010 hit the spot yet again. Here we have this delightfully lush and soft

feminine style which is the hallmark of Chambolle. Fine balance and no harsh characteristics

at all.’

$66.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1850 (landed $75.90)

CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2010 ‘ LES GRUENCHERES’ 1er CRU

‘A knockout of a wine from start to finish. Lovely and ripe Pinot which is so concentrated on

the nose and palate and entombed in a velvety structure. Say no more, it is just exciting?’

$104.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1851(landed $119.60)

PETITS VOUEOT 2010 1er CRU

‘Mid ruby colour which is typical of Vougeot. Flowery, raspberry nose

with an elegant start and fine finish. Needs time to fill out which the

acid to fruit and tannin balance will ensure.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$98.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1852 (landed $112.70)

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’

‘Bright garnet colour and immediately aromatic on the nose. A solid concentration of Pinot

fruit with an acid level similar to 2008 – not bad eh? Great length and fighting above its

weight. Excellent wine!’

$66.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1853 (landed $75.90)

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010 ‘LES CHERBAUDES’ 1er CRU

‘A big, super ripe wine with ripe tannins and intense palate. A nice

chocolaty taste to add depth and weight. Very low production level

with the grapes 50% smaller than normal, hence such immense fruit

quality. Special indeed!’

$105.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1854 (landed $120.75)

texture. More feminine is style than ‘Goulots’ normally is?’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$105.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1855 (landed $120.75)

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010 ‘ LES CHAMPEAUX’ 1er CRU

‘Beautiful colour – beautiful ripe nose- beautiful structure and palate = beautiful wine!’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$133.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1856 (landed $152.95)

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010 ‘ COMBE AUX MOINS’ 1er Cru

‘Deepest colour of the Premiers Cru. Ripe and penetrating palate full of blackberry/cassis

(blackcurrant) fruit with mild and round tannins. A great ‘Combe aux Moins’ and destined

for the cellar for at least 6 years plus.’

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

$133.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1857 (landed $152.95)

GEVREY-CHAMERTIN 2010 ‘CLOS ST JACQUES’ 1er CRU ‘Deeper colour than ‘Combe aux Moins’. Such a highly floral nose with a sweetness to it as well. A bold attack on the palate with superbly rich and round flavour which just goes on and on after one has tasted it. Classic!’

DOMAINE BART

Marsannay

What a solid and reliable source of fine Burgundy

that comes out of Domaine Bart. Furthermore both

Martin and Pierre Bart are as open as a book. They

always invite me to taste several barrel samples rather than one selected by them. This is an

old trick that still thrives in Bordeaux but thankfully, is rare in Burgundy. Another aspect

about Bart is their reasonable price structure. In terms of quality to price ratio they are very

hard to beat. A real feature of this vintage is the stunning quality of their basic Bourgogne

Rouge made from old vines. It is a steal. Well I don’t have to convince many of you about

this marvellous domaine but for those that have not ventured into buying Bart then this

vintage will convince anyone.

BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2010 ‘VIEILLES VIGNES’

‘Deep garnet colour. Obviously rich, ripe and round. A little closed on the middle palate

BUT lovely depth and structure. Excellent quality for a humble Bourgogne Rouge.’

$22.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1860 (landed $25.30)

MARSANNAY 2010 ‘LES LONGEROIS’ VILLAGE

‘Deep ruby red colour with a highly perfumed nose. New pruning with this 2010 using the

Guyot method. Very small yield gives it intensity. A 25% touch of new oak adds more depth

to this lovely wine. Ripe and very round finish. Top quality indeed!’

$33.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1861 (landed $37.95)

MARSANNAY 2010 ‘CHAMPS SALOMON’ VILLAGE

‘Highly perfumed as well. 25% whole clusters were used in making

this wine which is just so stylish, concentrated in ripe

strawberry/raspberry fruit with velvety texture. One of their best

village wines. And always consistent.’

$41.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1862 (landed $47.15)

MARSANNAY 2010 ‘GRANDS VIGNES’ VILLAGE

‘Very impressive wine! Sweet strawberry fruit on the nose and palate.

Great length and depth of flavour.’

$33.50/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1863 (landed $38.50)

FIXIN 2010 ‘LES HERVELETS’ 1er CRU

‘Purple/red colour, quite deep. A bit closed but this is big and long and so finely balanced.

Sure to fill out into a wonderful Burgundy of style and class as usual!’

$59.00/bt Pre-arrival Code: 1864 (landed $67.85)

BONNES MARES 2010 GRAND CRU

Strictly limited and will have to be allocated

CLOS DE BEZE 2010 GRAND CRU

Deep ruby colour. This has a lot of ‘terroir’ on the nose with an earthy note to begin with. A

highly concentrated palate and great length with surprisingly soft fruit tannin.’

*** Delivery instructions are important - enter delivery address only below ***

A business address that is open between 9am & 5pm where someone is able to receive the wine is preferable. However if we are delivering to a private address, Australia Post has the provision on its label for a brief instruction of where you are happy for wine to be left if no one is home. (i.e. on front porch under cover, in garage on left side of house, by front door out of weather etc.) If there is nowhere safe and nobody home they will leave a card and take delivery to nearest Australia Post outlet.
