Letter From the Founder

Since 1997, I have been working to create SteriPEN® Ultraviolet (UV) handheld water purifiersto serve the needs of Outdoor enthusiasts. The first product was priced well above $200and worked well for elite hikers around the world, but my vision was much broader andtoday we have versions of SteriPEN® priced well under $100 and have continued to addfeatures and new models that respond to the comments and needs of our users. This yearwe are introducing the SteriPEN® AdventurerOpti that features a patent pending watersensor that uses Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology to detect when SteriPEN® is inwater. It also serves double duty as a convenient flashlight. The Adventurer is our smallestmodel and conveniently fits in a side pocket or pouch.

My original idea for SteriPEN® was to harness the Ultraviolet Technology that had beenused for nearly 100 years in water purification plants for city-wide drinking water andbring it to the Outdoor market in a convenient, portable form that would allow for fast,light, easy and effective water purification. I have spent many hours on the phone and atTrade Shows with reporters, retail customers and users explaining how UV light purifieswater. While it may seem like a “miracle” to some, it is the same science discovered in thelate 1800s that showed how UV light photons work to attack the DNA building blocks ofwaterborne microbes causing them to be unable to grow and make you sick. While Ihaven’t personally experienced the effects of Giardia, I understand that it can cause avery painful stomach.

Because of this, all of us at Hydro-Photon, the makers of SteriPEN®, take our work veryseriously as we realize that the success of your trip may depend on successfully purifyingwater so that you won’t become sick. About the SteriPEN® FitsAll FilterTo quickly filter water to purify with a SteriPEN®, use thenew SteriPEN® FitsAll Filter to remove particulates fromwater with the use of a durable nylon screen.

The FitsAll Filter’s unique design offers flexibility tofilter water into bottles with a wide range of mouthsizes. Water can be poured through the FitsAll Filter orthe FitsAll Filter and bottle of choice can be immersedtogether into the water source. The SteriPEN® FitsAllFilter cup & funnel fit into narrow-mouth bottles suchas commercial water bottles, soft-drink bottles, canteensand SIGG™ bottles. On wider-mouth bottles such asKlean Kanteen®, Gatorade® and Nalgene® bottles, onlythe cup is necessary. For these three wide-mouth bottles,the FitsAll Filter also serves as an adapter for use withthe SteriPEN® JourneyLCD or SteriPEN® Classic.

Letter From the Founder

Since 1997, I have been working to create SteriPEN® Ultraviolet (UV) handheld water purifiersto serve the needs of Outdoor enthusiasts. The first product was priced well above $200and worked well for elite hikers around the world, but my vision was much broader andtoday we have versions of SteriPEN® priced well under $100 and have continued to addfeatures and new models that respond to the comments and needs of our users. This yearwe are introducing the SteriPEN® AdventurerOpti that features a patent pending watersensor that uses Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology to detect when SteriPEN® is inwater. It also serves double duty as a convenient flashlight. The Adventurer is our smallestmodel and conveniently fits in a side pocket or pouch.

My original idea for SteriPEN® was to harness the Ultraviolet Technology that had beenused for nearly 100 years in water purification plants for city-wide drinking water andbring it to the Outdoor market in a convenient, portable form that would allow for fast,light, easy and effective water purification. I have spent many hours on the phone and atTrade Shows with reporters, retail customers and users explaining how UV light purifieswater. While it may seem like a “miracle” to some, it is the same science discovered in thelate 1800s that showed how UV light photons work to attack the DNA building blocks ofwaterborne microbes causing them to be unable to grow and make you sick. While Ihaven’t personally experienced the effects of Giardia, I understand that it can cause avery painful stomach.

Because of this, all of us at Hydro-Photon, the makers of SteriPEN®, take our work veryseriously as we realize that the success of your trip may depend on successfully purifyingwater so that you won’t become sick.
