NEW Service Manual –Fall 2010

• Reorganization of Digest of Al-Anon and Alateen Policies

• Adding Alateen section that combines all Alateen statements

• Update to language on use of outside literature

• Moving the Finance section• Adjusted the language about group

names

Diversity

• Without outreach to diverse groups and culture, Al-Anon may not last

• The average Al-Anon member is:

A 58 year old white woman!

Diversity Leadership Workshop

• How to reach minorities in our area?

• Area project – outreach to a selected group – focusing our energy

• Do you welcome minority members to your group?

• How do we reach out to increase the diversity of our fellowship?

WSC Restructuring Thought Force

• Area’s Purpose – to server the groups through communication, participation, and representation

• 1- Plot all of the groups on a map to see where they actually are.

• 2- Allow areas with more than 400 groups to divide.

• 3- Allow smaller areas to combine.

Legacies Workbook

Literature committee requested permission to develop a Legacies Workbook like the Blueprint for Progress based on sharings from the online members blogs. The workbook would include the steps, traditions and the concepts. The conference approved this unanimously.

FORUM

• Back in the Black – new subscriptions this year have brought it back

• YOU LIKE IT! YOU REALLY LIKIE IT!!!

• California added 700 new subscriptions (+35%) more than any other state. We still only have 1.9 subscriptions per meeting.

Alateen Chat rooms

• These are now available for areas to start having online Alateen meetings. Two have started but very little attendance so far. They are moderated for the protection of the teens.

Open Policy Committee Meeting

• Topic discussed – Groups that do not follow the traditions and may affect Al-Anon as a whole.

• Should WSO create a ‘Do Not Refer’ list based on the area’s recommendation. Meeting that an area has delisted would not be used by WSO for phone referrals.

• WSO will not delist any meetings.

Conflict Resolution Task Force

• Develop tool for the areas to use for Conflict Resolution

1 – Workshop on using the traditions and Paths to Recovery for Conflict Resolution.

2 – Powerpoint presentation

3 – Literature piece to be completed.
