A high-level discovery and gathering of Database and Application information (scope) that you want to improve performance and tune. 2. A high-level discovery of primary data access and service level agreements that are needed from the Database and Application. 3. A high-level discovery of the Database instance configuration and of the physical platform. 4. An identification of the potential problem areas and/or candidate issues. Deliverables: 1. The high-level performance and tuning discovery is documented. 2. The high-level P&T areas of concern are identified (These comprise the top 10 worst performing Queries, the hot- spots at the DB and Disk level, and the locking and blocking issues, among other things) 3. Performance & Tuning Tools We also have developed our own set of graphic performance and tuning tools for Sybase, Oracle, and, more recently, Microsoft SQL Server.
SQL Shot is an extremely helpful tool for isolating and resolving the most difficult performance and blocking and/or locking issues.
This Performance and Tuning Tool will be installed and used during the assessment. At the engagement’s end we can either uninstall it, if you wish or keep it installed to let you continue to evaluate it.
