Page 22: 20101118 negotiations1

Customer • You are not happy with the proto-type product and want to make changes.• You know the manufacturer doesn’t want to change their proto-type and is being difficult, so

you must convince him to produce what you want.• Discuss why you are not happy with the product and develop an argument to convince the

Manufacturer to produce what you want.– Tell the manufacturer what you want, and do not let him persuade you to accept any

alternative.– You must negotiate with the manufacturer to get what you want but at the best

possible • Quality (specify what quality you want)• Cost (you don’t want to pay the current cost of 10 RMB. So you must negotiate to

lower the cost)• Packaging (specify what you want so that it will sell better).

• YOUR TASK IS TO BE THE BEST NEGOTIATOR.• HAVE YOUR BEST SPOKESPERSON TO NEGOTIATE FOR YOU.• YOU WILL BE NEGOTIATING WITH THE MANUFACTURERS SALES MANAGER WHO IS KNOWN

TO BE A TOUGH NEGOTIATOR SO YOU MUST HAVE THE BEST NEGOTIATOR TO REPRESENT YOU.

Page 23: 20101118 negotiations1

Manufacturer• You have produced a proto-type that is the best you can do.• You don’t know how the customer feels about the product.• You don’t want to make any changes to the product.• You must think of all the good thing about the proto-type and present a good argument why

the customer has to accept your product as is.• However you can make small adjustments in the following but the price will increase.

– Quality– Packaging.

• Your challenge is to – not change anything, but if you are forced to change then you must convince the

customer to pay a lot more money for • More proto-types,• Final cost will be higher if any changes are made. (Prototype cost is 10 RMB)

– Convince the customer to pay the maximum possible. (Make a large Profit)
