How the system works
One after the other, numerous sensors transmit ultrasonic waves; the sensors that are not
transmitting the waves 'listen'.
These sensors send the results to the parking system control unit.
The control unit functions when reverse gear has been engaged (if eight sensors are installed it is also possible to activate the unit via a button).
The unit initialises the entire system and commands the buzzer to make a brief sound. This
notifies the driver that the system is in working order.
If the event of faults, a long sound is emitted or the LED in the switch in the centre console flashes.

Environmental conditions
The following conditions may impact or affect how the parking system works: A lot of foliage and kerbs Tarmac with large pores (gravel paths, cobblestones, potholes, metal grates), bends in the road, slopes,
approaches/ramps Storms and environmental influences, such as:
Water on the parking system sensors (broadens the side lobe) Ice/snow on the parking sensor or in the transition to the bumper Vehicle exhaust gases, steam (heat rolls, caused by revving up for example, change the physical
properties of the air, in order to transmit the parking system ultrasound) Interference noise (such as that from air brakes on lorries), rodent repeller, active parking systems
fitted in other vehicles Technology in local surroundings, such as fluorescent tubes, induction loops in traffic lights or car park
barrier controls
Please always ask which sensor is issuing the false warning and in which area.

Assessing the vehicle
Check the number plate carrier assembly: The number plate must be exactly the
same size as the carrier The number plate and number plate carrier
must be flush The number plate must be secured at the
corners (check for corners curving upwards)
If possible, do not use advertising number plate carriers

Mechanical damage (chips, scratches) Dirt, ice, foreign bodies, film covering Damage to the bumper, air intake grille or underbody that indicates a parking dent Peeling paint
Chips and scratches are not covered by the warranty. Dirty sensors must be cleaned.

check/confirm the interval displayed) If deviations are determined, decouple the parking system sensor by covering it with foam;
this absorbs the ultrasound
If the obstacle warning is no longer issued once the sensor has been decoupled, please check the surrounding area/vehicle for any reflective objects and remove them. It is not necessary to replace the sensor in this instance.
The affected sensor must be replaced, however, if an obstacle warning is still issued even though the parking system sensor has been covered with foam and there is no visible damage or dirt.

Image flickers
Check cabling/connector to MMI/reversing camera control unit and reversing camera
Menu option in MMI is missing
Check the adaption channels in the MMI; check which part numbers have been installed
In addition, please clarify the situation with the following general conditions Is the LED in the parking system button lit? Do the parking system settings in the MMI match the customer's requirements? Is the parking system audible? Can the function be reactivated by switching the system on and off again using the button?
