The Patrons of Sacred Music have taken as their motto, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (i.e., “For the Greater Glory of God), since they seek to promoteand foster the musical patrimony of the Roman Catholic Church in all of its splendor.

Out of that musical treasury flows not only the sublime Gregorian Chantand Renaissance Polyphonic works of composers such as Palestrina and

Victoria, but also the Viennese Classical masterpieces for choir and or-chestra, revealing the creative genius of men such as Schubert, Beethovenand Mozart.

Hoping to see the organic development of this musical heritage flower inour present day in continuity with the Church's history, and transcendinglimitations of time and cultures, the musicians of St. John Cantius alsosing stunning choral works by contemporary composers such as EricWhitacre, Sir John Tavener and Piere Villette.

We understand this universality inCatholic music for worship as onefacet of the obedience of faith, listen-ing to the constant tradition of ourHoly Mother the Church, whoproudly adorns her Sacred Liturgieswith the beautiful melodies and har-monies prized so highly by the LatinRite.

MUSICALSICAL EEVENTENT FFUNDRAISERSNDRAISERS  

The Patrons of Sacred Music raise funds for the sacred music program of St. John Cantius, in part, by sponsoring various musical event

fundraisers periodically throughout the year.

Our audiences enthusiastically participate in these concerts andmusical programs, inviting new people to experience the remarkable

musical talent of the musicians of St. John Cantius Church.

Many of the musicians who regularly sing in our choirs and play in ourorchestras are involved in Chicago’s best professional musicalorganizations, such as the Lyric Opera, Chicago Symphony, etc.

Attending the special musical programs and the receptions and dinnersthat often accompany these program allows the Patrons of Sacred Music a

social opportunity to meet our fine musicians and to mix and minglewith the parishioners and friends of St. John Cantius who compose

the membership of the Patrons of Sacred Music.

In thanksgiving for your generoussupport, all Patrons of Sacred Music  will be remembered at the Holy Sac-rifice of the Mass during Advent onGaudete Sunday at 11:00 a.m. as wellas on Pentecost Sunday at 12:30p.m. Both of these Latin Masses will be held at St. John Cantius Church.
