Head Coach Brenda Frese is entering her 10th year at the helm of the Maryland program. In 10 years, she’s increased the program’s winning percentage by almost 10 percent (currently over 73 percent from 64 percent). She’s brought the program its fi rst national championship, three Elite Eights and seven NCAA Tournament appearances in her nine postseasons. Frese has also brought in eight top 15 recruiting classes and brought home the fi rst ACC title in over 20 years in 2009.
The Terps are again one of the nation’s tallest teams with their average height just over 6-0. Seven of the team’s 12 players are over the 6-0 mark.
Look for the Terps to again lead the ACC in rebounding, as their four top rebounders return. Last season, the Terrapins averaged 45.7 boards per game. Their rebounding margin (+12.1) was in the top three of the country throughout the year.
Freshman Alyssa Thomas, the 2011 ACC Rookie of the Year, will look to strengthen her already impressive game. The 6-2 sophomore led the team in scoring and steals and was second in rebounds. She fi nished her freshman year in the top fi ve of the league in scoring and rebounding and No. 10 in steals.
Head Coach Kevin Borseth posted a winning season in 22 of the last 23 years
including 17 seasons with 20 or more wins. His 500th
NCAA game in U-M’s 60-53 win over Iowa (Jan.
2, 2011). Borseth, who has an overall record of 508-220 against NCAA
opponents, and a 573-271 overall record, is in his
30th year of coaching and has spent time at Gogebic
C.C., Michigan Tech and UW-Green Bay before
taking over at Michigan in 2007-08.
Returning starters Rachel Sheffer and Carmen
Reynolds return after averaging in double fi gures last season.
The Wolverines return their leaders in steals (Jenny Ryan), assists
(Jenny Ryan), and blocks (Rachel Sheffer).
Senior guard/forward Carmen Reynolds will
enter the 2011-12 season with 893 career points.
With a 29-game regular season schedule, she will
need to average 3.6 points per game to reach 1,000
career points. Reynolds has also started in 65
straight contests dating back to the start of her
sophomore season.
Michigan moved to a perfect 4-0 in Big Ten/ACC
Challenge games with a win over Wake Forest last
year. U-M is the lone team from the Big Ten with
a perfect record in the annual challenge.

The Buckeyes returned three starters and eight letterwinners from a team that went 24-10 and advanced to its second Sweet 16 in three years.
Ohio State has been to a school-record nine consecutive NCAA tournaments.
The Buckeyes have won six Big Ten regular-season championships and four Big Ten tournament titles in Jim Foster’s nine years as head coach.
Senior point guard Samantha Prahalis is a preseason Wooden Award candidate. She entered the season with 707 career assists, an Ohio State record. She ranked third in the NCAA with 6.9 assists in 2010-11.
Junior guard Tayler Hill was named to the Big Ten’s All-Defensive Team while Ashley Adams was named to the fi ve-member All-Freshman Team in 2011.
Jim Foster is in his 10th season at Ohio State and his 34th overall as a head coach. Throughout his career his squads have made 26 postseason appearances, including 12 consecutive NCAA tournaments. His is the eighth-winningest active coach in Division I and is just the second collegiate coach – men’s or women’s at any level – to win at least 200 games at three different schools (C. Vivian Stringer is the other).
During the last seven seasons, Ohio State has the ninth-most wins (193) in Division I women’s college basketball and is one of nine schools to win at least 20 games over the last nine years.
A season after setting the school record by earning
the highest seed in school history at No. 3 for the NCAA Tourney, Florida State tied that mark in
2010-11.
A trio of starters with Iowa roots are expected
to lead the Noles in 2011-12: senior preseason
All-American post Cierra Bravard, sophomore
forward Natasha Howard, a 2010 freshman All-America selection, and sophomore point guard Tay’ler Mingo.
One of the greatest players in Florida State
women’s basketball history, Brooke Wyckoff,
begins her fi rst season as an assistant coach at her
alma mater. Wyckoff, who played eight seasons in the WNBA, was a freshman on
Sue Semrau’s fi rst Florida State team in 1997.
A major part of the Florida State women’s basketball
program is active community outreach.
The Seminoles take part in numerous community
service projects, including Samaritan’s Feet shoe
distributions. Head Coach Sue Semrau and her assistant will coach
a game barefoot during the conference season
for awareness for the organization, which
collects shoes and gives them to underprivileged
children across the world.
Bravard made 156 free throws a year ago, which is tops in the ACC. She shot
an impressive 78.8 percent from the line a mark that ranked third in the ACC
among players with 100 or more attempts.

Challenge coming off last year’s win on the road
at Clemson.
IU will be the road team for the second-consecutive
season in this year’s Big Ten/ACC challenge,

victory, the Hoosiers have held ACC opponents to
under 33-percent shooting from the fi eld, forced an
average of 19.0 turnovers in each game and
collected 10 steals ineach contest.
The Hoosiers return nine letterwinners from a

2011-12 team. Only two of the returnees were on the roster in each of IU’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge victories, senior Danilsa

Last year’s 12 ACC wins for Miami marked the most for the program
since joining the league to start the 2004 season.
The previous high for wins in the ACC was six during the 2005-06 season, with the team fi nishing sixth in
the conference.
