• Advantages: – Students get a detailed picture of their individual abilities and areas
for growth– Test preparation; valuable practice– Gain self-confidence regarding high stakes test-taking– Higher education and career planning suggestions
• 2010/first year: 10 students (one state winner)
• 2011/second year: 17 students
Algebra Readiness TestingAlgebra Readiness Testing
Orleans-Hanna Algebra Readiness Testing
• Assessment is designed to predict students’ readiness for algebra courses
• Will be used with current 5th grade students (scoring in the 60th percentile or higher on most recent NWEA math test) in May 2011
• Will be used with other data to determine most appropriate math class placement for students entering middle school
PLATO PROGRAMPLATO PROGRAM• Alternative Learning Opportunities

PLC MATH DATAPLC MATH DATA
• Data is being collected by the PLCs in
grades 1-5 and the 6-12 Math PLC. • Student achievement data is aggregated
for each teacher and grade level for each unit.
• Basic Math facts data is also collected and aggregated by grade level and the district as a whole.
VIRTUAL SCIENCE PLC VIRTUAL SCIENCE PLC The RAMSP virtual PLC is made up of one K-12 science teacher from each school who is a member of RAMSP. We have met several times to discuss science needs within the school, both equipment and training related. These conversations have taken place via webinars.
Born out of these webinars, on February 1, there was a science forum for all K-12 science teachers who are members of RAMSP to come together and have a round-table discussion about needs within the classroom.

You-Tube Math Class
• Teacher records the lesson using the smart board and posts the video to her Wiki.
• Students watch the videos each night as homework and take notes on the lesson.
• Class time begins with gateway problems and then students move to homework.
• Students work on homework throughout the rest of the class period.

ON-LINE LEARNINGON-LINE LEARNING OFFERINGSOFFERINGS
Offering more on-line classes ……
– We are training our staff in the use of a Learning Management System
– Pilot courses are being offered internally this year – On-line courses to be taught next year:
AP Chemistry, Small Animal Science, and Plant Science I & II
– Belong to two online schools (SEMVA and SSC)
ONE-ON-ONE ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER INITIATIVECOMPUTER INITIATIVE
One-on-One Computer Initiative – Piloting of a one-to-one school environment
has been occurring for two years in 4th/5th grade
– Each student will be provided with a netbook for their use
– Would involve grades 4-12 – Very positive results are being shown in the
areas of engagement and time on task.
ITV/DISTANCE LEARNINGITV/DISTANCE LEARNING
• Lab has been set up to accommodate both interactive tv and online learning courses.
• Lab can/has been used for meetings (ex. HS Math Dept. meeting with Byron HS Math Dept.; numerous other meetings)
• Stewartville is a member of SEMVA (Southeast MN Virtual Academy) and SSC (Southeast Service Coop Distance Learning Program)
VIRTUAL SCIENCE PLC VIRTUAL SCIENCE PLC
The Current Thought From That Forum Is To:
1. Have three forums each school year to meet staff development needs of science teachers.
2. Continue the webinars in-between the forums to expedite feedback of needs and reactions to the forum.
3. To expand the biotechnology trailer program, sponsored by IBM and Mayo, to include trailers for physics (underway) and chemistry.
4. To create a storage house of science equipment and materials that can be checked out by member schools for use in the classroom.
