11 a.m.-noon The Black Velvet Band

Traditional Irish music featuring James Walsh, Mickey Perry and James Lavin. The Black Velvet Band has played with some of the finest entertainers in Ireland and the United States. (Shamrock Stage)

12:30-3:30 p.m. The Amazing Fred Collins Juggler, magician, stilt walker, plate spinner, balloon artist, and human basketball hoop extraordinaire! (walkaround)

1 p.m. Welcome Master of Ceremonies Tony Jackson, host of the “Irish Country” radio program on WRHU (Radio Hofstra University), welcomes the public. (Shamrock Stage)

1-2:30 p.m. Girsa

All-female traditional Irish band (www.girsa.com). “… a force to be reckoned with!” — Joanie Madden, Cherish the Ladies (Shamrock Stage)

4:45-6 p.m. The Hirten Family Irish Dancers

One of the best-known acts of its kind in the United States. The group includes several national champion dancers recognized by the Irish Dance Assocation of North America. The members of the group have qualified for and competed in world championships held in Ireland.

Join us and recite a snippet from your favorite reading by a female Irish author or with a theme related to Irish women in celebration of both St. Patrick’s Day and Women’s History Month. Co-sponsored by Hofstra’s Women’s Studies Program.

Irish Family Fun Day! Saturday, April 2, 2011, 12:30-5 p.m. Hofstra USA and Intramural Fields, North CampusFee: $10 per family

Irish Family Fun Day gives local students and families a chance to learn about and celebrate Irish culture. Children will learn Irish arts and crafts, Gaelic sports, traditional music, step dancing, and the Irish language. There will also be storytelling and films. Children will share what they learn during an ice cream and cookies social.

Irish Film Series: The VanWednesday, April 13, 2011, 6-8:30 p.m. The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center, South Campus

Screen adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s novel. Directed by Stephen Frears, starring Colm Meaney, Donal O’Kelly and Ger Ryan. The film explores the trials and tribulations of self-employment. Discussion to be facilitated by Hofstra Professor Maggie Burke.

Remaking Ireland: The Easter Rising and TodayThursday, April 28, 2011, 6-8 p.m. The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center, South Campus

A prominent speaker will reflect upon the legacy and contemporary implications of the Easter Rising. Co-sponsored by the Irish Monument Committee and the Consulate General of Ireland.
