Geoff Bradshaw joined the Warriors in fall 2007 after being chosen to succeed Kim Duyst as head coach of the men and women’s track and field teams. Since his arrival, the Warriors have had one national cham-pion, eight All-Americans and five conference champions.

Bradshaw is a former Cal State Stanislaus track and field athlete himself, earning two All-American recognitions and 11 all-conference awards during his tenure as a Warrior from 1992-1994. Bradshaw won the NCAA Division II national championship in the decathlon in 1994 and was inducted into the Warrior Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.

His athletic accomplishments include setting the decathlon javelin record in 1994 at 198 feet, 11 inch-es, and helping the Warriors to their best Division II finish at the national meet. Bradshaw was also instru-mental in capturing the first-ever conference championship for Cal State Stanislaus that same year.

As an individual, Bradshaw holds the campus record in the javelin. He is ranked second in the decath-lon, sixth in the long jump and tenth in the 400-meter run.

Bradshaw played football and baseball in high school and did not compete in track and field until he attended Cuesta College in Southern California. He would go on to earn all-conference honors in the javelin, long jump and decathlon at Cuesta College and earned all-state honors in the decathlon in 1992 before joining the Warriors.

After his competitive days at Cal State Stanislaus, he spent three years as an assistant to Duyst before moving on to coach at UC Santa Barbara from 1997-2003 and Santa Barbara Community College from 2003 to the present. Early in 2007, Bradshaw was named head coach at SBCC.

Bradshaw obtained his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Cal State Stanislaus in1994 and is currently working on complet-ing his master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific.

Bradshaw’s wife, Melina, was a track athlete here at Cal State Stanislaus and once held the school’s record in the 100-meter dash. He and his wife Melina have two children, Pepper, 10, and Phoenix, 6. Bradshaw and his family currently reside in Turlock.

Cuauhtemoc Vallejo-Howard (top left) is a triple threat in shot put, discus and hammer. His best event is the hammer where he is expected to make a run to qualify for the NCAA national championships. He enters the season with the school’s fourth best hammer toss (183-10).

Terrence Ellis (top right), Dawson Vorderbruegge and Joey Nunes are three solid distance runners with some of the best times already recorded in school history. They should continue to shine in 2011 on the oval.

Rashee Dean is a triple jump specalist who could leap into the national championship scene after making a run for the CCAA title. Dean had the school’s sixth best jump in 2009 with a 48 feet, 1/2 inch mark.

Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium is part of the Student Recreation Complex, located on the east side of campus at the corner of Geer Road and Christoffersen Parkway.

The complex features a 19,000 square-foot fitness center, a 2,100-seat lighted soccer/football stadium (War-rior Stadium) with a state-of-the-art all-weather turf and track (Al Brenda Track), a lighted intramural competition field and a soccer practice field. A field events site for the relocated track and field program is situated behind the grandstands between the stadium and Warrior Baseball Field.

The Student Recreation Complex was funded by a student fee increase referen-dum.

The facility opened for its first event in August of 2009 for the soccer season. Al Brenda Track hosted its first track meet on Feb. 20, 2010.

All in the vicinity, on the east side of the campus, are the other Athletics facili-ties. These include the baseball and soft-ball fields, tennis courts and the Ed & Ber-tha Fitzpatrick Arena.

Academic programs are bolstered by partnerships in the region’s public and private sectors. CSU Stanislaus has achieved national recognition five straight years from The Princeton Review, which included the University in its latest “Best 373 Colleges” guidebook featuring the top 15 percent of colleges in the nation. CSU Stanislaus was also named one of only 165 “America’s Best Values” colleges by The Princeton Review. Forbes.com named the University in its “Top Colleges for Getting Rich” rankings. CSU Stanislaus was recognized by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities as one of 12 public universities nationwide that demonstrate exceptional performance in retention and graduation rates. The University is recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education.
