The Olivet College baseball team posted a 10-30 record duringthe 2010 season. The Comets are optimistic that they have the playerswho can turn it around and finish the 2011 season with a winning mark.Head Coach Ted Mahan is hopeful because 20 of 27 players on theroster had a 3.0 or higher grade point average during the fall semester.

“In my coaching career, the student-athletes who have done wellin the classroom have done a great job with carrying the same workethic over to the baseball diamond,” said Mahan. “They have a greatunderstanding about what it takes to be successful in both areas.”

PITCHERSThe success of the 2011 season will be determined on the success

of the pitching staff, particularly the starters. Leading this group issenior captain Brad Beisiegel (Royal Oak). Over his f irst threeseasons, he has posted an 8-13 record and 5.64 ERA in 162.2 innings.Sophomore Jay Magro (Bridgman) is another returning pitcher, whostarted nine games during his rookie season.
