122011 UIS Men’s Soccer Media Guide
One of the premiere soccer facilities in the Great Lakes Valley Conference is Kiwanis Stadium, home of the UIS soccer program since 1977.
The only home UIS soccer has known, it has hosted three NAIA National Tournaments. Kiwanis has also hosted the last three IHSA Girls Super Sectional.
UIS fielded its first men’s soccer team in 1977 and the Prairie Stars won their first match out when they defeated Bradley 4-2.
Kiwanis Stadium has a brand new score-board, which was installed prior to the 2010 season. The stadium also features locker rooms for home and visiting teams, athletic training facilities, concession stand and two coaches offices.
Kiwanis Stadium has been the host site of three NAIA National Tournaments (1979 - 1981) and has hosted the UMBRO Senior Bowl twice. The facility seats over 1,500 fans and is lighted for the numerous night games held on campus.
In 2010 the men’s soccer team ranked 22nd in the NCAA in attendance with an average of 330 fans attended each match. UIS was just 1-of-7 GLVC schools represented in the top attendance.

Jesse Miech begins his first year at UIS after spending the previous season as goal keeper coach at Saint Louis University. His coaching experience also includes stints at three other NCAA Division I universities.
“I am excited for the opportunity to join the University of Illinois Springfield family and community. I would like to thank the search committee for their belief in me and my ability to lead the men's soccer program,” Miech said. “I feel that the University and their athletic department are committed to their student-athletes and are very passionate about what the future will bring as they are going through the transition to NCAA Division II athletics. I am eager to start working with the team as this is an amazing opportunity to impact the lives of many young adults. “
Along with his collegiate coaching duties, Miech also has been coaching for the prestigious St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro Soccer Club in Collinsville as an assistant for the Under-18 Metro USDA Academy Team and as the director of goalkeeping for the club's U13 through U18 groups. This has familiarized him with high-caliber soccer talent throughout Illinois and Missouri.
Miech spent the spring of 2010 as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia Tech. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Clemson from 2008-09. With the Tigers, Miech assisted in the day-to-day operations of the soccer program and was directly responsible for the implementation of a year-round goalkeeper-training program.
Prior to his stint at Clemson, Miech spent two seasons at Missouri State beginning in 2006. There, he coached the Bears' keepers and was the programs' head recruiter.
Miech's first coaching job came at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was the goalkeeper coach for the women's team. He also spent a semester as assistant women's coach at Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Miech played collegiately at Creighton for two years and was a member of the 2000 Bluejay squad that advanced to the College Cup final. Miech transferred to Morningside, where he earned NAIA All-America honors as a senior and set school records for saves, save percentage, shutouts and wins. Miech also played three summers in the PDL for the Sioux Falls Spitfire.
Miech has worked at a variety of clubs and camps. He was the assistant director of the Clemson Soccer Academy from 2008-09, the largest all-male soccer camp in the country consisting of 2,200 players. Miech was the director of coaching for the Clemson Anderson Soccer Alliance in South Carolina.
A 2005 graduate of Morningside, Miech double majored in graphic design with a joint major in philosophical and religious studies. He earned his master's degree in administrative studies with an emphasis in sports management from Missouri State, graduating magna cum laude in 2007.
Miech holds a USSF "A" license and earned the USSF National Goalkeeping Diploma. He also holds the NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma and an NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma. Miech comes from a coaching family, his father John is the head football coach at Wisconsin-Stevens Point while his mother, Sheila is the head women’s soccer coach for the Pointers. She ranks fifth in NCAA Division III history in victories.
