December 2010 Welcome Producer: Thank you for choosing to air your program on Sportsman Channel! The entire staff welcomes you into our family. We understand that each program brings a unique and individual style of entertainment to the Sportsman Channel. Because of these different styles, every viewer can find their favorite show and Sportsman Channel shall become their primary destination for the most entertaining, educational and informative hunting, shooting and fishing programming available. To ensure Sportsman Channel and its family of producers will continually meet and exceed our viewers’ expectations, we must adhere to an established set of standards and guidelines. These guidelines can be found in the Sportsman Channel’s Production Guidelines. The Production Guidelines include information related to general editorial guidelines, technical requirements, advertising practices and delivery procedures. To aid all producers in preparing their programs to air on Sportsman Channel a “Graphics Package” is available for download. EDITORIAL GUIDELINES Mission: Sportsman Channel strives to promote legal, ethical and traditional hunting, shooting and fishing values to all its viewers. Sportsman Channel’s family of producers must strive to produce entertaining, informative and educational hunting, shooting and fishing programming that refrains from over-commercialization. To accomplish this goal Sportsman Channel has developed the Editorial Guidelines described on the following pages.

1. Stewardship and Safety At all times producers should promote good stewardship. When producing content for Sportsman Channel, safe and responsible hunting, shooting and fishing practices should be followed and promoted. As professionals in the outdoor industry, we have a responsibility to educate outdoor enthusiasts on ways to practice sound wildlife management and to respect the natural world, while minimizing and preventing any negative impacts on the environment. Whenever possible, we encourage you to use your programming to promote certain land use actions including game and wildlife management and to address ideas such as conservation, restoration or improvement of the natural environment and the prevention of pollution. We also have a responsibility to promote safety. All on-air personalities, hosts and guests should employ reasonable and appropriate safety measures at all times, and Sportsman Channel reserves the right to reject content deemed to ignore or omit necessary safety practices. For guidance on commonly accepted safety practices, we recommend consulting with the International Hunter Education Association (www.ihea.com) for hunting, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (www.nssf.org) for shooting and the National Safe Boating Council (www.safeboatingcouncil.org) for boating. Furthermore, in an effort to promote safe and effective hunting methods to both producers and viewers of Sportsman Channel, we require all producers to follow safe tree stand hunting practices. This includes, but is not limited to, the proper use of a Fall-Arrest System (FAS)/Full Body Harness as listed in the Treestand Safety Guidelines of the Treestand Manufacturers Association (www.tmastands.com). Sportsman Channel strives to maintain a family-friendly environment. At all times, activities and language should be appropriate for all ages. Any language that would not be appropriate for all ages should be edited out of the program. Bleeps to cover unacceptable language in segments that are necessary to the story line will be allowed on a very limited basis. No smoking or the use of smokeless tobacco/spitting is allowed on camera. Because it is considered extremely dangerous to consume alcoholic beverages while hunting, shooting or boating, the showing of alcohol consumption in any program must be limited to the celebratory drink back at the lodge or over dinner, and it must always be shown in good taste. 2. Harvesting of Game The complete harvesting of game or fish is allowed; however it must be presented in an ethical and sportsmanlike fashion. The impact of the projectile may be shown along with the dispatching of the game as long as there is no excessive blood, flopping, prolonged suffering, running of crippled game or similar imagery. A replay of an impact shot may be shown, but only once per animal. Slow motion replays that show dangling limbs, gaping wounds or excessive bleeding will not be aired. Excessively long shots or poor shot placement resulting in a wounded animal are prohibited and shots taken at running game should be avoided and must be approved by Sportsman Channel prior to airing. Deliberate foul-hooking or snagging of fish will not be aired. Fish that have been gaffed, arrowed or speared and left to flop around on the deck, boat or shore should be edited out of the program. Clubbing of a fish to kill it also should be edited out of the program. Any video or audio of an animal or fish that appears to be suffering excessively should be avoided completely. At no time may a host or guest on an episode do anything illegal, unethical or unsportsmanlike. Remember, this may be a subjective decision so if you are unsure leave it out or get prior approval from the Director of Programming at Sportsman Channel.

3. Skinning and Field Dressing Showing the field dressing or skinning of harvested animals or fish is acceptable when it is shown for educational or demonstrational purposes and only if it can be done without showing excessive blood or internal organs from the animal. 4. Code of Ethics Every effort must be made to portray legal, safe and ethical hunting, shooting and fishing activities. All hosts and on-air personalities should show respect for any game or fish that they hunt/catch and for the environments that they visit. Sportsman Channel is a strong proponent of hunting programs that display fair chase situations. Any hunting or fishing activity that may be legal in one state or country but not in another should be avoided if possible or else the differences should be clearly explained to the audience. Practices that are not allowed due to being deemed illegal include but are not limited to: spotting animals with the assistance of aircraft, shooting from a vehicle or aircraft, failure to clearly identify a target and anything beyond it, improper baiting of game and hunting on private property without permission. Sportsman Channel reserves the right to reject a producer’s submission for the inclusion of unethical hunting practices, but shall work with the producer to make adjustments to the episode to make it compliant with these producer guidelines. 5. Show Opens Pre-packaged opens must be limited to 80 seconds, with a maximum of 40 seconds given to billboards or sponsor line-ups. If pre-packaged opens do not include billboards or sponsor line-ups then the graphic open is limited to 40 seconds. This time limit does not include any previews of the show that may run prior to or after the pre-packaged open. 6. Billboard Placement and Sponsorship Lineups Billboards or sponsor line-ups may be presented at the start of an episode if they are a part of a pre-packaged open. If they are not part of the pre-packaged open, they may be presented at the end of the first segment of an episode. In either instance billboards or sponsor line-ups may not exceed 40 seconds and shall not include more than eight (8) billboard screens. If there are more than 8 sponsor acknowledgements required then multiple sponsors must be placed on a single screen. Billboards or sponsor lineups presented at the end of a program may not exceed a total of 40 seconds and shall not have more than eight (8) billboard screens. If there are more than 8 sponsor acknowledgements required then multiple sponsors must be placed on a single screen. Acknowledgement of a show segment sponsor may not exceed 6 seconds in length. No phone numbers, mailing or physical addresses are allowed in any billboard, sponsor line-up or segment sponsorship. Website addresses are only allowed if they are a part of the company name or included in the original artwork design as provided by the sponsor.

7. Product Review Segments Product reviews or tip segments that only recommend one particular manufacturer’s product must be limited to 90 seconds. There can be no calls to action that ask a viewer to buy a product. You can say “for more information visit the manufacturer’s website or visit your local retailer.” You may list the website on the screen at the end of the segment for no more than 7 seconds. There may not be more than one product review segment of the type outlined in this section per episode. Product reviews or tip segments that are unbiased, compare products from multiple manufacturers and do not endorse one specific product are not subjected to the 90 second run-time limitation nor the quantity restriction of 1 per episode. 8. Outfitter Reviews or Promotion Specific promotion or review of an outfitter, lodge or guide you are using in a specific episode must be limited to 30 seconds and placed at the end of a content segment or show. You may promote two or more outfitters or guides in one episode; however, the total review time may not exceed 30 seconds. Any commercial spot you choose to give the outfitter, lodge or guide will not be counted against this 30-second limitation. Pop-up banners with contact information are not allowed to appear during programming content. You are still free to visit with, show video and pictures of, and feature your outfitter as it pertains to your story line. However, any specific sales or contact information may be discussed and appear only in the outfitter review or promotion at the end of the segment or the show. On screen outfitter contact information may only appear as a lower third web address and must be limited to 7 seconds at the end of the review. All other on screen contact information may appear only in the acknowledgements and the credits section of the show just before the closing credits. 9. Graphics Package Sportsman Channel has created a robust on-screen graphics package that provides a rich and attractive visual environment for hunt, shoot and fish programming. The elements of this graphics package are available to all producers airing shows on Sportsman Channel in 2011. All producers are encouraged to use this graphics package in full or in part to enhance the overall viewer experience. The graphics package is available for download at: http://huntshootfish.tv/. The username is ‘sportsman’ and the password is ‘whitetail.’ 10. Acknowledgments and Credits Immediately before the closing credits, fifteen (15) seconds of acknowledgments are permitted. These acknowledgments are restricted to expressions of thanks and reminders of contact information. Requests to purchase any sponsor’s or outfitter’s products or services is prohibited. End of show credits are restricted to listings of production personnel.

11. Oversight and Review Sportsman Channel reserves the right to refuse to air any program that does not meet the Editorial Guidelines outlined above. No accommodations will be made in regards to any loss of revenue claims regarding shows that are determined by Sportsman Channel to fail to comply with these Editorial Guidelines. Sportsman Channel will make every effort to contact a show’s producer and to suggest ways to edit an episode so that it will comply with the Editorial Guidelines. However, if there is insufficient time to provide a new program, Sportsman Channel, at its sole discretion, will either replay a previous episode on hand or preempt the timeslot with a different program. Sportsman Channel reserves the right to change these Editorial Guidelines with no less than 60 days general notice to the producers. These guidelines will be in effect for all shows airing on Sportsman Channel from December 27, 2010.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Sportsman Channel reserves the right to refuse to air any program that does not meet the technical requirements highlighted in this document. No accommodations will be made in regards to loss of revenue claims for shows that Sportsman Channel deems to fail to meet or exceed the requirements noted in this document. Sportsman Channel will make every effort to contact the producer and suggest ways to edit your show so that it will meet the technical requirements listed below. If there is insufficient time to provide a new program, then Sportsman Channel, at its sole discretion, will either replay a previous episode on hand or preempt your timeslots with a different program. Sportsman Channel reserves the right to change the technical requirements included in this document and applied to all producers with no less than 60 days general notice. This document addresses the following elements:

1. Show Structure • All half-hour shows must contain twenty-two minutes and 15 seconds (00:22:15;00) of content split

into four segments with three internal breaks (see Show/Format Outline for more detail). • Segment Length Restrictions: Each of the four program segments must be at least three (3) minutes in

length. The first segment of each episode must be at least five (5) and no more than seven (7) minutes in length.

• Total commercial time will be seven minutes. The show must contain three advertising breaks each. The first and second breaks will be 150 seconds each and the last break shall be 120 seconds in length. The first 60 seconds in break 2 must be left black for Sportsman Channel unless agreed to otherwise in the producer sales contract.

• Make sure your show maintains clean breaks between your program content and all commercial breaks through the use of complete dissolves in/out, segues to and from commercials and added frames of black.

• Sportsman Channel will reserve 45 seconds in each half-hour for promotional purposes. Producers are required to leave the lower thirds clean for at least 60 continuous seconds during the following times:

From the 2:00 minute mark to the 3:00 minute mark in segment one From the 2:00 minute mark to the 3:00 minute mark in segment two The last minute before the bump out in segment three The last minute before the closing credits in segment four.

• Each tape must contain at least 120 seconds of continuous black after the last frame of video in each program.

2. Quality Requirements • In an effort to maintain high quality standards, Sportsman Channel has made format changes. Please

be aware that as improved formats are developed and made available, legacy formats that are no longer manufactured will be removed from the list of accepted formats for program acquisition and playback.

• All programming must be shot and edited on equipment that provides broadcast quality results that meet or exceed the quality of the HDCAM format, or similar professional high definition formats.

• High definition programming may be acquired using HDCAM, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX or professional quality HDV cameras.

• All video must be in sharp focus and properly lit, except if done purposely for artistic reasons. • Video levels must not contain excessively crushed blacks or overly compressed highlights that make

detail appear to be washed out. • White balance, skin tones and all colors must be an accurate depiction of the scene and be consistent

throughout the program. • Use of letterboxed content must be consistent throughout the program and not be mixed with full

screen content, and vice-versa. • The use of video effects or processing should not introduce unwanted changes to the video levels or

unwanted changes or artifacts to the transitions. • All audio must be in sync with the video and corrections should be made for loss of sync. • There should be no visible or audible video or audio noise introduced through editing or compression

techniques during post-production of the program and great care must be taken to ensure that the program quality remains as close as possible to the original source footage.

• HD programs will be down converted for airing in the NTSC 525/29.97 drop frame format. Care must be taken to ensure that all format and frame rate conversions are done properly to ensure consistent aspect ratios and timing.

• All video acquired with high definition equipment must be shot and edited with the intention of maintaining the letterboxed 16:9 aspect ratio for air when down conversion to standard definition takes place.

• The use and delivery of standard definition content will not be allowed starting in quarter three of 2011. Any exceptions must be discussed with the quality control supervisor and approved in writing by the Director of Programming at Sportsman Channel prior to air.

3. Video • Video levels and white balance must be consistent and correct throughout the show, never peaking

above 100 IRE on a waveform monitor. • Digital video should be set to 0 mV black levels and not exceed 700 mV. Shots should be properly

focused and use of auto focus and auto iris is prohibited. Chroma levels should peak at 75% saturation. Phase must not deviate more than +/- five degrees of reference point per color. All areas of video must be referenced to color bars. Masters should be free of any visible flaws. Masters containing visible flaws or glitches may be rejected at the discretion of Sportsman Channel’s Quality Control Department.

• Due to the fast moving and unpredictable action of hunting, shooting and fishing programming, the use of 24p is not recommended for the acquisition of hunting, shooting and fishing action or editing. Exceptions to this rule would be special short features within the body of the show that do not include fast moving action or fast camera moves.

4. Audio • Audio channels 1 and 2 both should have a full program mix in stereo with full mono compatibility

(note: if you lay different audio on different tracks in your edit system, be sure you mix down the audio before printing the tape).

• It is absolutely essential that audio levels be consistent throughout the show including lead-out/lead-ins to commercials and the commercials themselves. Audio should not peak above 2 VU on a Betacam SP deck. Audio levels in any digital format should never reach 0 db and should not peak above -6 db on a digital audio scale.

• All audio should be acquired by using professional equipment. All speaking talent should be properly mic’ed, preferably with a lavaliere style microphone on the talent’s chest. The use of a shotgun microphone for primary talent audio is not acceptable. The audio shall be free of spurious signals such as noise, hum, cross-talk, heavy wind hits, hiss, microphone pops, etc. and precautions should be taken to prevent these audio annoyances. If the audio cannot clearly be understood by the viewer because of the need to whisper, then the program should include sub-titles or voice-overs in those portions.

• Effects and equalization applied to the audio should only be used to improve the quality and not to distort, except for specific artistic purpose.

• The audio should be free of excessive dynamic range and compression so that the realism of the scene is maintained and the audio remains as clean and natural as possible.

• Background music and effects should be chosen carefully to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and fit the actual mood and pacing of the scene. Music and effects used to enhance the scene should be leveled properly so as not to make the dialogue or natural sound hard to hear or understand.

• Over modulated audio will not be accepted.

5. Post Production • Shows must be edited using generally accepted industry standard platforms and codecs such as those

marketed by Avid and Apple Computer’s Final Cut Pro. Transitions should be smooth and jump cuts should be avoided. Any effects that add noise or intentionally diminish the video quality of an image are not acceptable without prior written consent of Sportsman Channel. Final edited programs shall meet or exceed generally accepted industry standards and norms for broadcast quality.

• Through improvements of technology, video codecs and compression schemes are constantly changing. Sportsman Channel recommends using the 4:2:2 color space and a minimum bitrate of 100 MB/s for editing and visual effects. The current recommended codecs for editing systems are: Avid DNxHD, Apple ProRes 422, XDCam HD, DVCPro HD. Sportsman Channel does not recommend using native HDV codecs or any intermediate codec for finish editing.

Closed Captioning • Closed captioning is required for all programs airing on Sportsman Channel. Producers may either

submit their programs with closed captioning or request for Sportsman Channel to provide the closed captioning service for a fee (see Services & Fees Schedule for more information).

• Closed captions should normally be displayed on the bottom of the screen unless that placement interferes with program elements.

• Failure to deliver programs captioned properly or to pay for captioning to be provided by Sportsman Channel may result in termination of the program.

Ratings • Do not burn ratings information (i.e., TV G, TV PG, etc.) Sportsman Channel Ad Avails • An accurate log identifying commercial avails belonging to Sportsman Channel must be provided

with each episode. Commercial avails must be placed in specific locations determined by the number of minutes you are buying back in your airtime agreement. If you do not have a breakdown of where those ad avails should be contact your business development rep or the quality control supersvisor. Commercial avails belonging to Sportsman Channel must appear as clean uninterrupted black on the program tape. If an accurate log is not provided, Sportsman Channel reserves the right to place commercial spots as spelled out in the “Airtime Agreement”. No make-goods will be given for covered program spots in the absence of uninterrupted black or an accurate log.

6. Branding • To establish a more uniform on-air look, all shows should be using the Sportsman Channel’s graphics

package and elements. The Sportsman Channel’s package should not be altered in any way; i.e., please do not change the font, text size, color etc.

• The bottom right corner of the screen must remain free of all graphics, overlays, and lower thirds at all times. This space is reserved for the Sportsman Channel logo bug.

• The Sportsman Channel logo/bug will appear on screen directly after the show open and shall remain visible for the duration of the show excluding commercial breaks and closing credits. Individual show branding is not to overshadow or cover the logo/bug of Sportsman Channel in any way.

• Individual show bugs may be placed in the lower left hand corner of the screen no more than once per segment. Each instance of the bug should not exceed 10 seconds on air.

7. Delivery Formats • If episodes will be submitted on tape they must be provided on the HDCAM format. If you are unable

to provide your program in the HDCAM format contact Sportsman Channel for suggestions (see Services & Fees Schedule for more information).

• If episodes will be submitted on hard drive, they must run off a FireWire 800 connection and must be exported using the proper sequence settings. Producers will be billed if proper sequence settings are not followed and additional rendering time is required. Please contact a member of the programming department if further information hard drive submission is needed (see Appendix F – Sportsman Channel Contact List).

• The time code for all tapes should begin at 00:58:50, with the start of the show content at 01:00:00. • All tapes must have 30 seconds of bars and tone, a slate and a countdown prior to the program. The

tone on any digital format tape should be set at –20 db. The slate should have at least the show name, show number, show title or subject, and contact information. There should be one second of black before your show starts. That means you should only show the countdown to two, and then leave one second of black.

ADVERTISING STANDARDS AND PRACTICES • All advertising must be deemed appropriate by Sportsman Channel. The same editorial and technical

standards that apply to program content also apply to commercial content. The Sportsman Channel reserves the right to reject any advertisement that does not meet our editorial or technical standards.

• Restrictions include commercials promoting sexually explicit services, products or videos; 900 numbers and products that they promote; any tobacco products or illegal drug paraphernalia; any wagering or betting opportunities not fully licensed in the United States; any anti-law enforcement products; or anything that competes directly with Sportsman Channel or the print publications of InterMedia Outdoors.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES • All tapes and tape cases must have a show name, show number, show title, air week and contact

information on them. All tapes must also include (1) a completed music cue sheet, (2) an accurate episode information sheet/commercial log that shows the exact start and end time codes of your program and the exact start and end time codes of each commercial break.

• All hard drives, cords, and cases must be clearly labeled with your show name and return address. All hard drives must also include (1) a completed music cue sheet, (2) an accurate episode information sheet/commercial log that shows the exact start and end time codes of your program and the exact start and end time codes of each commercial break.

• Do not send us your only MASTER tape; make a sub-master (additional master). You may only put one show on each tape. You must have continuing time code and black after the end of the program for at least 120 seconds or to the end of the tape.

• Programs must reach Sportsman Channel, ready to air, at least 10 days before the scheduled air week (i.e. a tape that is scheduled to air in a week that starts on Monday the 25th must be received no later than Friday the 15th). If you have requested prepaid dubbing services or closed captioning to be performed by Sportsman Channel, then your tape should be delivered to Sportsman Channel at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the scheduled air week. If tapes are not received on time, the proper broadcast of your show is not assured and your show is subject to rush charges or preemption (see Services & Fees Schedule for more information). • If it becomes necessary to submit a revised show, you first need to obtain written, or via email,

authorization from the Traffic Department before submission. Submitting a revised show without prior written authorization may result in the episode not airing on schedule.

• If your program sponsors/commercials change, Sportsman Channel has the ability to replace commercials in subsequent airings. See the Services & Fees Schedule for more information.

Prior to shipping your program episode, please make sure you have provided or included the following:

1. Series Description (60 words or less) – this can be sent electronically to Joy Kleinhans at [email protected].

2. Episode Specific Description - this can be sent electronically to Joy Kleinhans.

3. Completed Music Cue Sheet – please use the form provided in the Production Guidelines or

request an electronic version from Joy Kleinhans.

Appendix E – Services & Fees Schedule

Production Services Tape Dubbing & Format Conversion – If you are unable to provide your program episode in one of the accepted playback formats, Sportsman Channel can, in most instances, handle the conversion process for you. The cost of the service is $50 per episode (including tape stock) in most instances. For more information contact David Kadera, Quality Control Supervisor at 262-432-9100 ext. 157.

Closed Captioning – Sportsman Channel can provide transcription and closed captioning of your completed episode for $225. If you provide a complete electronic transcription along with your completed episode the cost of the closed captioning service is $175. Miscellaneous Editing – If you have new commercials or billboards to insert into your playback master or any other changes to make to your show, Sportsman Channel may be able to make those changes for you. The cost is based on the time it takes to do the job and billed at $50 per half hour. For more information contact David Kadera, Quality Control Supervisor. Rush Charges Sportsman Channel understands that sometimes circumstances may occur that make it impossible for you to get your episode in on time, yet you still need the episode to air in a specific week. For those instances, Sportsman Channel has implemented the following rush charges. If you do not wish to pay the rush charge, you may choose to replay a previous episode as long as it does not breach your airtime agreement. For verification that your episode will air in the expected air week contact Joy Kleinhans, Senior Programming Coordinator at 262-432-9100 ext. 113.

Any episode (already captioned) that does not arrive at least 10 days (Friday) before the scheduled air week will be subject to a $50 rush processing fee.

Any episode (already captioned) needing format conversion that does not arrive at least 12 days (Wednesday) before the scheduled air week will be subject to a $50 rush processing fee.

Any episode (without captions) that does not arrive at least 14 days (Monday) before the scheduled air week will be subject to a $50 rush processing fee.

Any episode (without captions) that does not arrive at least 10 days (Friday) before the scheduled air week will be subject to a $100 rush processing fee.

Any episode (with or without captions) that does not arrive at least 5 days (Wednesday) before the scheduled air week will be pushed forward to the next air week and a replay will air in its place or the program will be preempted.
