A message from the County Executive

Greeting Fellow Citizens,

Welcome to the Department of Recreation and Parks’

2011 Spring Program Guide. Whatever your interests, you

will be sure to find something in this guide. I encourage

you to participate in one of our programs or visit one of our

beautiful parks. Our summer camp schedule is brimming with fun

choices for children. Enroll your child in the ever-popular

Summer Fun Centers, specialty camps and day camps

at Downs Park and Quiet Waters Park. Campers will experience exciting

adventures and wonderful friendships throughout the summer season. For a

full description of all of the summer camps, visit our award-winning website

at www.aacounty.org/recparks.

I am pleased to announce a new bi-monthly lecture series offering panel

discussions and speakers addressing the environmental concerns affecting

our county. This series was created to promote awareness and provide a

forum for healthy dialogue and debate regarding the environmental health of

our community. The lectures are held on the first and third Thursdays of every

month at the Blue Heron Center at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis.

I invite you and your family to participate in the annual Rec Deeds

Challenge Run 5K and Fun Walk event. The event supports Recreation Deeds

for Special Needs, a non-profit organization established to provide camp

scholarships, adaptive equipment, training and volunteer support to people

with disabilities. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, March 26th at Fort

Smallwood Park in Pasadena.

The Department of Recreation and Parks’ staff and volunteers work

diligently to provide enjoyable and educational programs and events for

the citizens of Anne Arundel County. I hope you will take advantage of the

numerous opportunities awaiting you at our recreation centers, athletic

facilities, trails, community and regional parks.

Have a safe, healthy and active spring.

Best Wishes,

JOHN R. LEOPOLDCounty Executive
