Traditions of Health & Wellness
October 14-16, 2011
Tucson Meet Yourself Folklife Festival celebrates the living
traditional arts and expressions of everyday life of our
multinational Arizona-Sonora region. This is the 38th
edition of what began as a small gathering of home
cooks, folk artists, and traditional musicians in 1974.
The festival has grown significantly since then, but we
still hold firm on our belief that ordinary people make
beautiful arts that grow from their hearts, their families
and communities. We present the Festival free, as our
gift to the community, in Downtown Tucson at the heart
of Pima County. Thank you for supporting our non-profit
organization and enjoy Tucson Meet Yourself 2011.
Welcome!

Please join us in a tribute to Tucson Meet Yourself founder, James ‘Big Jim’ Griffith!2011 Bess Lomax Hawes NEA National Heritage Fellow
F or more than four decades, Jim Griffith
has been devoted to celebrating and
honoring the folkways and religious
expression found along the United States-Mexico
border. “Big Jim,” as he is affectionately known, is the
personification of the intent of the Bess Lomax Hawes
Fellowship due to his influential work both as an
academic and public folklorist that has proliferated
into numerous cultural ventures, including Tucson
Meet Yourself, where his folklore program landed
and lives on.
