January has already proven that 2011 will be an historic year. Besides the contagious revolution in the Maghreb and Middle East we were drawn to gigantic funding rounds and IPO news of social networking companies. Press releases by Groupon, facebook, and LinkedIn and rumors around others like Zynga indicate in our opinion to a new bubble and/or a fundamental shift in how startups raise growth capital.

We think it is important to look in more detail into the latter and will publish a separate presentation on the topic: Understand the Present to See the Future – Fundraising and Exits of Startups.
