It won’t happen on hiswatch. Incoming MTA chair-man Joseph Lhota said yes-terday he’s not looking toslash subway or bus service.
“I do not expect to haveany service cuts during my
tenure,” Lhota said, after atumultuous board battleover the MTA budget.
Some board membersfought vehemently to re-store some of the cuts toservice enacted by formerchair Jay Walder in 2010,asking the authority to allo-cate $20 million dollars tocreate 300 jobs and restoreunspecified services.
Lhota shot them down— calling the MTA’s fi-nances stable, but “fragile”— and asked board mem-bers to be patient.
“It is my hope and myprayer that someday wecan restore service cutsthat had happened lastyear,” Lhota said.
Lhota pledged that he’snot “contemplating” serv-ice cuts or fare increases in2012. Last year, the W andV trains were eliminated, many bus routes wereshortened and hundreds oftoll clerks were let go.

Charging its way intopopularity: The bus?

Curbside bus service is up as gasprices and perks like Wi-Fi makedriving less attractive Regulatorswarn that safety may be an issue
Greyhound has been profiting from low-cost service BoltBus. With fuel prices high, bus services have seen an increase in ridership.
Megabus.com and BoltBusled U.S. curbside bus com-panies that boosted tripsby 32 percent this year astravelers opted to leavetheir cars behind and surfthe Internet while travel-ing, DePaul University re-searchers said.
The popularity of U.S. in-tercity buses picking uppassengers at the curbrather than in a terminalhas been growing since theindustry reversed a 46-yeardecline in 2006, Joseph
Schwieterman, director ofDePaul’s Chaddick Institutefor Metropolitan Develop-ment in Chicago, said in atelephone interview. Bustraffic including traditionalservice grew this year at thefastest pace since 2008, theinstitute said in a study re-leased today.
Higher gasoline costsmake driving a car more ex-pensive at the same time asbuses offer access to freeWi-Fi and cheaper faresthan on planes and trains,Schwieterman said. Onceviewed as a last resort inthe U.S., bus travel is nowattracting more affluentriders, students and womentraveling alone, he said.
“There’s a fatigue overdriving combined with arevitalized image of thebus,” Schwieterman said.
Daily intercity curbsidebus departures increased to778 from 589 a year ago, ac-cording to DePaul. BLOOMBERG

The source added thatthe military, which is try-ing to develop a nuclear ar-senal, has pledged alle-giance to the untested KimJong-un, who takes overthe family dynasty that hasruled North Korea since itwas founded after WorldWar II.
The source declined tobe identified but has cor-rectly predicted events inthe past, telling Reutersabout the North’s first nu-clear test in 2006 before ittook place.

No dwarves appear inAustin McCormick’s sleek, sexy “Snow White.” Takenfrom the original scaryGrimm story, this is a tale ofenvy and murder, of awicked stepmother plottingagainst a lovely young girl.
McCormick, a Juilliardgrad who’s trained as abaroque dancer, has beenrefining his grand conceptsat a former truck ware-house in Carroll Gardensfor several years, and build-ing a powerful multidisci-plinary ensemble, Compa-ny XIV, reprising a produc-tion first seen here in 2009.The writing (by Jeff Takacs, who narrates his rhymingscript in a stentorian bassvoice) is sharp, the visuallandscape is dazzling and alot of the music is live —snippets of Respighi, Goun-od and others sung by so-prano Lauren-Michelle, whomoves among the actor-dancers as though her dra-matic tones were the mostnatural thing in the world.
Laura Careless is killer, literally, as the evil Queenwho plots, ingeniously butunsuccessfully, to eliminate
her stepdaughter. SnowWhite herself, GracieWhite, is a very young per-former from Minnesota’sCircus Juventas who, alongwith two compatriots, joinsCompany XIV and takes theenterprise to a whole newlevel, at ease swinging yardsabove the floor. When herprince (Joseph McEachern, another circus veteran)
comes to rescue her, theirbodies work together per-fectly.
Billed as a family show, this production mightfrighten young children, but the tweens, teens andadults in the house aretransfixed. A maximalistmash-up of dance, theater, opera, circus, cinema andburlesque, it features half-naked men wrapped incorsets and seductivewomen of all ages. Mc-Cormick’s sure theatricalsense guides it to a satisfy-ing conclusion.

Screening for crazies:Tips for evaluatingsomeone you met online
FBI profiler and author of ‘Dangerous Instincts’ Mary Ellen O’Toole,Ph.D., shares her tips for personality assessment Key red flags to look for
Given that online dat-ing has become socommon, it’s easy tolose sight of the fact
that some of the peopleyou’ll meet on the Webcould be not only just notyour type, but mentally un-stable as well. Author MaryEllen O’Toole, Ph.D., hasevaluated serial killers dur-ing her long career as anFBI behavioral analyst. Inher new book, “DangerousInstincts,” O’Toole outlinesthe methods she uses toscreen for personality disor-ders. She offers some strate-
gies for teasing out valuableinformation that can keepyou safe while dating on-line.
Here are some datingprofile red flag phrases:
“I’m not into playinggames.” “That is almostwhat we would call aprotest statement,” saysO’Toole. “You neverbrought that up to beginwith. It’s not likely that youwould, so why do theybring it up? Do they bring itup because they’ve been ac-cused of that before? Do
they bring it up becausethat’s the kind of thingthey do? Do they bring it upbecause they’re projectingonto you and are anticipat-ing that you’ll play games?
You don’t know, but ... youwant to see if this ultimate-ly becomes important.”
“I’m looking for someonewho is going to be my soulmate.” “You want to look at
who is the most importantperson in this e-mail. Is itthe writer or is it you?”says O’Toole. “[Beware of]someone who seems to be-come jealous, or possessiveand says, ‘I can’t live with-out you’ or ‘You are mysoul mate, I can tell rightaway.’ A needy man orwoman might think ‘He re-ally loves me,’ but the flipside of that — threemonths down the road —is, ‘This guy is a stalker.’”
HEIDI [email protected]
“I’m not the kind ofperson who would cheaton my wife.”“That makes them look verydefensive,” O’Toole says. “Thenext question: ‘Is that justtheir linguistic style or is therea reason for it?’ There aresome people who have that
‘the world ishalf-empty’outlook andthey believethat no mat-ter what they
do, you’re going to cheat. Itbecomes an inevitable conclu-sion for them.”

Credit Card Debt?Solutions that can help you get out of debt.Tom Hill CGA STAFF WRITER
ADVERTISEMENT
Every three minutes another person falls behind on credit card debt. It’s no wonder, since every major credit card company has nearly doubled the minimum monthly payment on consumers’ bills. Federal Regulators forced the change because of their concern about the growing mountain of consumer debt, which stands at $2.17 trillion. Many consumers can only pay the minimum payment, which can take up to 30 years to pay off. Now, relief is in sight for millions of Americans.
CreditGUARD of America, a non-profit licensed debt management service provider, is making a new program available to lower debt payments and become free of all credit card debt in only three to five years. Consumers need only $2,000 or more in total credit card debt and behind on any account, to cut their payment by 35% to 50%, and reduce or eliminate interest charges altogether.
Over 200,000 families, located throughout the U.S. have regained financial independence with CreditGUARD’s licensed, bonded and insured service. CreditGUARD of America has received high marks in consumer surveys showing high consumer satisfaction and confidence. The CreditGUARD debt management program can actually turn a person’s life around.
One such case is Sandra L. who proclaimed “CreditGUARD cut my monthly payment by $656 and saved me over $29,206.53 in interest. They saved my way of life and gave me back my piece of mind! Now I can see myself on my way to becoming debt free.” or Jeffery C. who said “CreditGUARD of America helped me consolidate 3 of my credit cards into one affordable payment. They are now saving me nearly $200 a month. Now I will be debt free in 2 years or less”

Young’s No. 1 tip? Usefresh vegetable juices asyour base instead of pre-packaged tomato juice.“We only use freshlysqueezed tomato, carrotand celery juices for ourBloodys,” he says. “Thismakes it very light, freshand fragrant. The cannedstuff is full of sugar and canweigh you down, which willonly make you feel worse.”

The Giants bit theirtongues as long as theycould, but eventually theyhad to cut loose. Try asthey might, many Giantscouldn’t resist firing backat their co-tenants whenrepeatedly asked theirthoughts on the braggado-cios Jets.
When asked histhoughts on what the Jets— particularly their headcoach Rex Ryan — havebeen saying all week, Gi-ants running back Bran-don Jacobs was more thanhappy to give his thoughts.
“That’s just Rex beingRex. He does everythinghe needs to do to get histeam fired up and youcan’t blame him. If that iswhat he feels like he has todo, then he has to do it,”said Jacobs, adding hethinks Ryan’s bluster isfalse bravado. “I thinkthey’re trying to fulfillsomething [and] put some-thing in people that may

“Which team’s had themost recent success interms of winning a cham-pionship? The Giants. Plainand simple, there it is,”said McKenzie. “When yousay most successful, have
they accomplished thegoal of winning a champi-onship? No. .… Chirp ifyou want.”

Burress ready to face his old teamWhen Plaxico Burresssigned with the Jets in Au-gust, he insisted his move tothe crosstown rivals wasanything but a shot fired athis old Giants team.
On Christmas Eve, Bur-ress gets a chance to facethe team he played with for
more than four years andwhere he won a Super Bowl.
Now, he’s a full-fledgedJet.
“It’s a business first. I’mstill in contact with some ofthe guys who play overthere. We did some specialthings when we were over
there, obviously winningthe world championship,”Burress said. “When we goout there on Sunday, whenwe go out there and lacethem up, we’re enemies forthe next three or fourhours.”
After spending the last
two years in prison, Burresshas surprised many withhis solid return.
“I definitely want to getinto the end zone once, twice, maybe three or four,”Burress said. “I’m going togo out and try to play lights-out football.” KRISTIAN DYER

“We don’t put himon a pedestal,” Man-ningham said. “It’sjust that quarterbacksget too scared tothrow his way.”
Manningham addedthat all the Jets cor-ners get too muchcredit.
“I think it's moreabout the schemesthan the players.”
Hakeem Nicksmeanwhile shruggedand called Revis “de-cent.” METRO/TW

Here are three sleepersto target later in fantasyhoops drafts:
1 ToneyDouglas,PG, NYK —ChaunceyBillups ison the Clips and BaronDavis is hurt. Douglaswill push for the leaguelead in 3-pointers.
2 PaulGeorge,SG, IND —Georgegrew to 6-foot-10 and still has hisstarting shooting guardskills and role. There’spotential for a bigbreakout here.
3 TyrusThomas,PF, CHA —Thomas’knee ishealthy and he’s thestarting power forward.One of the game’s bestnatural shot-blockers.
NBA is back
L ast season, the Lions won theirfinal four games. The Packerswon their last six. RobGronkowski caught four touch-
downs in Weeks 14-17. It’s not a coin-cidence that they all had big years in2011.
Here are some hot players withchances to keep it going next year:
Don’t cry over SpillerC.J. Spiller has proven that he hasenough big-play ability andtoughness to carry the load. Fred
Jackson is also off a major injury andan impending free agent. At thevery least, Spiller has earned a time-share next season.
Tebow timeJohn Elway finally came out and saidthat Tim Tebow isn’t going anywhere. With another offseason to work onhis passing, Tebow will easily be atop-8 fantasy quarterback next year.
Hello, HeluMike Shanahan has found hisone-cut back of the future. RoyHelu has taken over thefeature back job with force, racking up 23 or more carriesin four straight. He’ll only getbetter as a sophomore.
Momentum is a powerful thing. For those that are out of theplayoffs, it’s still worth watch-ing to see who can catch thewave.
NFL news
Bad BenBen Roethlis-
berger shouldnot haveplayed Mondaynight. And now
he’ll probably rest untilthe playoffs. The Steelersroll with Charlie Batch andstill beat the Rams on Sat-urday, but it’s a majorblow to owners of MikeWallace and AntonioBrown. Downgrade them.

Jabar Gaffney
WR, Vikings Gaffney has a dreammatchup against theVikings and has extremechemistry with Rex Gross-man. He’s a WR3 this week.
Kahlil Bell
RB, Bears Bell is better than MarionBarber in the passing gameand the Bears are alwayslosing. Bell is essentially theNo. 1 back.
Demaryius Thomas
WR, BroncosThomas has replaced EddieRoyal as the starter. He alsosees 1-on-1 coverage all daythanks to Tim Tebow. There’s upside here.
ALWAYS NEXT SEASON
C.J. Spiller is showing explosiveability late in the year.
68.1Aaron Rodgers’s com-pletion percentage is68.1 percent thisseason. That would betop-20 all-time.
40Passing touchdownsfor Rodgers thisseason. That is first inthe NFL, by three morethan Drew Brees.
6Interceptions thrownby Rodgers this season, second in the NFLamong qualifiers, butAlex Smith has 16 TDs.
120Rodgers leads the NFLin quarterback rating,at 120.1. The all-timerecord is 121.1 by Peyton Manning (2004).
36Rodgers has beensacked 36 times thisyear, tied for first in theNFL with Sam Bradfordand Blaine Gabbert.
1Aaron Rodgers won hisfirst AP Male Athlete ofthe Year Award yester-day. Justin Verlanderfinished second.
