MESSAGE FROM THE EXALTED RULER
Where did May go? We had some very good events this past month. The Cinco de
Mayo party co-hosted by the Emblem Club, was well attended and enjoyed by all.
Thanks to all the volunteers, Elk and Emblem who helped cook,
decorate, serve, bar tend and clean up. Well Done! As I have
just returned from our Mother’s Day service and Brunch, I can
report that it was a huge success. Thank you to Tom Bizal, Rob
Tuttle, PER Troy Asher, Bill Wester, Leading Knight Chuck
Mitchell and our fantastic kitchen “Crew” who prepared
and served the food. I was certainly proud of our officers
who performed the Mother’s Day ceremony. This completed a wonderful weekend
for our Lodge. We had a great turn out at Friday night’s dinner aided in a big part by
Brother Vlaudy Moss and his party. Then on Saturday, Roseville had two foursomes
competing in a North Central District fund raiser golf tournament in support of Grant
Exalted Ruler Designate Tom Brazier. (The next big cheese) One of these foursomes
managed to end up in first place, thanks to George Miller, Rob Tuttle, Leading Knight
Chuck Mitchell, and the one-putt wonder known as me. Their shoulders and backs
ached from carrying me all day. We are also planning a Father’s Day brunch
following the required Flag Day Ceremony on June 17th
at 9:00 a.m. If you have not
seen our Flag Day Ceremony, it is quite interesting. If you have any grandchildren in
grade school, bring them down to the lodge for a less in American History.by the
tinme you read this, your officers will already attended the State Convention and I
will give the lodge a report at the first meeting this month. We will again be having
our “Sock Hop” this month. This has become a fun and light hearted journey back in
time. For some of you, the journey is a little longer. I want to say a big Thank You to
all who have attended the events and supported the lodge through the early part of this
year. You are the lifeblood of our Lodge and your volunteering will only make it
more fun. “Get Er Done and Have Fun”!
Fraternally,
Harry Hopton, Exalted Ruler

IMPORTANT!! From the Editor………… Thank you to all of you who asked to be put on the e-mail list. (There were approximately
50 of you.) We saved $50 so far on the bulletin, in addition to lowering the printing costs
this month. For those of you who are considering switching to receiving your bulletin by
e-mail (in color) , please call Lorraine 916-342-7092 or [email protected]. We
discovered many incorrect e-mails, so if you are not receiving your bulletin by e-mail please
let me know. If you have a change of address or phone number, please call the office.
The Lodge will not give out (nor sell) this Directory or your e-mail address, nor use them

Did you guess what this means?
JOLLY ’s
Did you know that before the Elks, there were 16 entertainers
known as the Jolly Corks. Charles A.S. Vivian was the Founder
of the Jolly Corks and B.P.O. Elks.
While Jolly corks meetings were held with regularity, apparently
no form nor substance resulted, except for the adoption of a toast
to members of the group not in attendance. This was the genesis
of the eleven o’clock toast.
Roseville Elks Lodge #2248 presented the ENF
Gratitude Grant ($2,000) to the Roseville Policy Activities
(RPAL) at their monthly board meeting. The RPAL seeks to
enrich the lives and develop the physical, mental and social
capabilities of Roseville Youth by fostering positive
relationships with law enforcement and the community
through a variety of recreational, athletic, and social,
education, and cultural activities.
RPAL activities include Cross Fit Kids, Mixed Martial Arts,
Arts & Crafts, Camping, Kayaking, Boxing, Open Gymnasium,
Tutoring, and Mentoring.
RPAL accepts children ages 8 years through 17 years that
reside or attend a school in the City of Roseville. (Which
includes children with special needs.)
There are a number of police officers and community
volunteers that volunteer their time for this program.
Volunteers are always welcome.

Our Tuesday Night Bingo was a Big Hit!
We had many of our members attending as well as people from
our neighborhood, now that the public is welcome. We had 27
people and 5 volunteers. Mel Rojko and Elaine Purcell sold the
tickets and handed out door prize tickets. Chuck Purcell called
the numbers and continued to tease and torment the players. Bill
Markham circulated, checking cards and numbers. Lorraine
McIntyre was in charge of the pull tabs.
Winners were: Cindy McKim, Laudy Moss, Nina Brasier, Betty
Grisso,Amber Ruen, Anita Eckert, and Abel Rios. Don Harris
won the Texas Blackout. A good time was had by all!
ANOTHER YOUNTVILLE SUCCESS!!
The Veteran’s Committee, Roseville Lodge #2248
sponsored a BBQ at the YOUNTVILLE VETERANS
HOME on April 25th. We adopted the Abraham Lincoln
Building which houses abut 100 veterans, men and women
and husbands and wives. We served cheeseburgers and
hot dogs with macaroni salad. About 65 veterans showed
up and enjoyed a FREE meal.
Without the participation of many people, we would not
have been able to have this wonderful outing for the Vets.
Volunteers were from both the Elks and Emblem: Bonnie
Buechner, Elaine Johnson, Bill markham, jDavid Sanford,
Harry Hopton, Ron Hall, Tom Bizal, Elaine Purcell, Chuck
Purcell, Dave Alstadt, George Ramos, Lou Simmons,
Doug Holmer, Mel Rojko, Dick Law, Gary Platz, and Rich
Casellini. Also, thanks to Violet Carter for the lap robes
she made for the Veterans.
The latest member to join the ENF Honorary Hall of Fame
is Roseville Lodge # 2248 member Jerry Faulkner. Jerry
reached a total of a $1,000.00 donation on March 15, 2012.
Presenting Jerry with his Certification and Pin are 2012-
2013 Elks ER Harry Hopton along with 2011-2012 ENF
Chair Rosie Dreiling. Thank you Jerry!!
EMBLEM CORNER………… Elli Platz
Just a note from the Emblem Club keeping you up to
date on our activities.
WOW!! What a great a Cinco de Mayo. This was the first dual
event for the year and what a way to start it off. There was a
great feel for the room thanks to Helen Bostick for her time and
effort in decorating and the great job she did on the raffle.
Congrats to Don and Suzy Stevenson for winning BOTH of the
raffle prizes, and they did it with ticket numbers 3505 and 3506.
What are the chances of that happening again?
In June, as well as our breakfast on the 3rd
, and taco night on
the 28th
, Emblem will be joining the Elks on Father’s Day for the
flag ceremony. This truly is a moving display of our flag. I
encourage you all to come and watch this event.
Emblem will be supporting the Elks in their Sock Hope on the
30th
.
Support your Elks and help them grow!
