years of ADVENTURELet the adventures begin at Girl Scout camp: scale the rope course, fly on the zip-line, learn to ride a horse, discover the fun of science, go on a digital scavenger hunt and make friends with girls from near and far.

4 2011 Summer Camp: 1-877-404-5708

Why Girl Scout camp? It’s a big year for Girl Scouting because we’re celebrating our 100th Anniversary! That’s 100 years of girls stretching their limits as they learn they can do anything; 100 years of building friendships that last a lifetime; and 100 years of camping out in the great outdoors. Times have changed plenty in 100 years and Girl Scouts has kept pace. There’s no better place for girls to grow as leaders than at Girl Scout camp. For girls, it’s all about the fun, friendships and adventures. For parents, it’s the value of knowing your daughter is in a safe, supervised and positive all-girl environment, where she can thrive just as generations of girls before her did.

You don’t have to already be a Girl Scout to attend. Girl Scout camp is open to all girls; girls not registered with Girl Scouts in the 2011-12 membership year pay the $12 registration fee in addition to the camp fee. Girl Scouts and other girls who have never tried camping with Girl Scouts of Colorado will get a special 10 percent discount. Also, if you bring along a friend who is a new camper, you’ll get a 5 percent discount. If you earn Cookie Credits to apply toward camp, these deductions can bring your cost down even further!

What’s exciting and what’s new?• It’s Brownie time at Magic Sky Ranch—new sessions for girls in grades 2-3.

• Love Tomahawk Ranch? Now you can stay for 12 days with new overnight resident camp sessions.

• New overnight camping at favorite Girl Scouts of Colorado properties: Meadow Mountain Ranch and Lazy Acres.

• Our popular 10% new camper discount is back! Bring a new friend this year— she gets a 10% discount and you get a 5% returning camper referral discount.

• Transportation is back too—catch a convenient, affordable ride to camp!

• New one-day Day Camps with your friends at Denver’s most fun attractions.

• New Traveling Day Camp on the Western Slope.

• New adventure diggler park at Sky High Ranch.

• New camp crew leadership opportunity (a paid position) for Ambassador Girl Scouts—the best job on earth!

• Horseback camps come to beautiful Meadow Mountain Ranch.

• Electronic submission of required health forms through CampDoc (an experienced, secure third-party vendor contracted by Girl Scouts of Colorado) will make filling out forms much easier.

• No waitlists this year! You’ll know if your daughter is in or it’s time to find another great option instantly online. Be sure to complete your registration as early as possible for best selection of our popular camps.

Online RegistrationNot available for Family camps or Troop camp programs.

Visit girlscoutsofcolorado.org and click on the register for camp icon. The online registration process will walk you through the needed information for you, your family and your camper(s). Once the camper’s birthday and grade are entered, a list of camps based on grade eligibility with available openings will be displayed. Once you complete the full process, your camper will be registered and an email response will be sent to you immediately in regards to her enrollment status and further steps to complete.

You may sign up for multiple sessions and multiple campers in the same family. If camps are full, please choose another available session. We are no longer offering waitlists for camps. From our past experience, we have found that waitlists don’t help campers attend camp. Movement on these lists is minimal, if at all, and provides false hope for both you and your daughter. Therefore we recommend choosing from other available sessions to ensure your daughter receives a great camping experience.

Paper RegistrationThe forms are available at girlscoutsofcolorado.org > Forms or at the service center near you. You can call 1-877-404-5708 to have a form mailed to you. Completed forms can be mailed to Corporate Headquarters (Girl Scouts of Colorado, P.O. Box 9407, Denver, CO 80209) or turned in at any Girl Scouts of Colorado service center by February 17, 2012. After February 17, send forms directly to Corporate Headquarters at the above address to avoid processing delays. Paper forms received in Denver by March 2 will be included in first processing on March 6. About 15 percent of spots for each camp will be held for paper registrations. Please do not duplicate registrations online and on paper as this will cause delays in registration.

• Complete the entire registration form, paying close attention to dates, grade levels, fees and required signatures.• Register for all the camp sessions your daughter plans to attend by filling in the name, date and code in the First Choice session.

Include alternatives for each First Choice session, in case her first choice session is full. • Each Camp Registration Form must be accompanied by a $25 non-refundable (see Refund Policy below) registration processing

fee (deposit) or the total session fee if less than $25.

TransportationGirl Scouts of Colorado is offering transportation to and/or from the three resident camps during the following dates: 6/10–15 (MS, SH, TR), 6/17-22(MS, TR), 6/17-28(SH), 7/29-8/3 (MS, SH, TR). We’re offering round-trip transportation for $75 and $45 for a one-way ticket. Pick-up and drop-off locations within Colorado only and will be determined based on interest. When selecting a camp during this timeframe, just check the transportation box with your online or paper registration. If you are interested in registering for transportation after you have completed your registration, you will need to contact customer support at 1-877-404-5708. Also, if you bring along a friend who is a new camper, you’ll get a 5 percent discount. (The discount will apply for one session only per girl. Discounts do not apply toward family camp, parent/daughter camp, Camp S’More or CORE troop camp.)

Sister Discount (more than one daughter registering)The sister who registers for the greatest number of camp sessions and/or more expensive session(s) will pay full price for her session(s). Her sister(s) will receive a 10 percent discount for any same or lower priced session(s). For online registration, select the appropriate box on the discount screen. Girls with special needs We welcome girls with disabilities and special needs and ask that parent(s)/guardian(s) communicate with us in advance so we can make sure it is an appropriate fit and meets your camper’s needs. Call customer support to be referred to the appropriate camp director 1-877-404-5708 to discuss your daughter’s needs. If your daughter is on a new medication for any medical condition, please make sure she is stable and used to the effects of the medication before sending her to an unfamiliar environment at camp.

Refund policy The registration processing fee (“deposit”) is non-refundable. The processing fee is refunded only when the girl is registered and the council cancels the session or when the council is unable to place the girl. The balance will be refunded, excluding the registration processing fee, if cancellation is made with a written request (email acceptable) four weeks before the session begins, and by the registration deadline. After that time, the balance is refunded only if the girl has moved out of the council area, has been certified to be ill by a licensed physician or there is a family emergency (severe sickness or death in the immediate family). Balances cannot be transferred to another person if the original registered camper cancels from the session. Day CampDay Camp is a great first camp experience, bringing all of the fun of camp during the day and spending the evenings in the comfort of home with your family. Day Camps are multi-day programs held at convenient locations throughout the state. The camp day is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for most sessions (most water camps are from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to weather). Most Day Camps for younger girls feature crafts, games, songs and other traditional Girl Scout skills, as well as science and nature activities. Fifty percent of Day Camp activities are theme-based, but this will vary by session. Some camp series are more art- and science-based and are held indoors. Please be sure to check the Day Camp page of our website for more information about increased camp capacities as well as finalization of any information marked “TBD.”

Read the Camper Information Packet (emailed after your camper has been placed) carefully for specific information, including drop-off and pick-up locations, lunch information, gate passes (if applicable), directions, site instructions, lists and other important details for the session. Campers are placed in developmentally appropriate unit groups of 15 to 24 girls. Camp may be released early or canceled due to severe weather or other unsafe conditions.

VolunteerDay Camp wouldn’t be the same without dedicated volunteers. They help us make a difference in the lives of all the campers!

A free week for one daughter, marketable job skills, professional contacts and an adventure of a lifetime are yours when you volunteer at a five-day Girl Scouts of Colorado volunteer Day Camp in your area this summer.

You don’t have to be a troop leader, mom or even be currently involved in Girl Scouts to be a volunteer. Volunteer all five days at a program marked with a volunteer icon, and receive one daughter’s registration free. Additional daughters and Tagalongs (boys and children under the age of 5) can attend for an additional charge of $25 each. Men/fathers and other adults 18 and older are welcome and encouraged to volunteer as well.

Interested in making a difference this summer as a Day Camp volunteer? Mark the volunteer interest box on the online registration page. For information on volunteering please contact:

20 2012 Summer Camp: 1-877-404-5708

Resident CampGreat adventures and fabulous leadership experiences await girls at resident camp. The camp experience is about success, teamwork and choices. The programs vary with each group of girls based on the program emphasis and ideas from the girls themselves. Girls can choose from three properties—Magic Sky Ranch, Sky High Ranch or Tomahawk Ranch and three session lengths—three-, six- or 12-day programs. Please check the grade requirements for the program(s) your daughter wants to attend.

All three resident camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services. Girl Scouts of Colorado is a permittee of the Pike and San Isabel National Forests. Most hikes and backpack trips take place under a special-use permit from the USDA Forest Service. Girl Scouts is an equal opportunity provider.

Camp Trading PostWe have Trading Posts at all three resident camps. Trading Posts are open only during check-in and check-out. Girls do not need to bring money to camp for their stay. There will be one-stop shopping packets of camp necessities available to make things easier on the parent(s)/guardian(s), as well as all of the fun stuff the girls want to see. Pre-camp kits are available at the council shops and online. Watch your Camper Information Packets for further information.

Horse programs Campers in horse sessions are in general camps with a daily focus on horse-related activities. In addition to the horse activities, campers get to spend time enjoying many of the other activities offered at camp. Campers in horse programs will spend 1.5–2 hours a day in horse-related activities. All activities are dependent upon the rider’s comfort level, ability, skill and the weather. There will be educational time learning about horses and horse care, practicing skills, familiarity with the barn and related equipment and tack, cleaning, as well as arena riding time and/or trail time.

Qualifications and previous experienceThe riding programs at Girl Scouts of Colorado camps are designed so campers can progress from one level to the next while attending any camp/location. Prerequisites are listed with each horse session. Campers are evaluated on their skill development at the end of a session, so the camper and Girl Scouts of Colorado camps know the camper’s skill level and can recommend where to go next.

Blue jeans/long pants and riding boots (with a defined heel) are required for all programs with horseback riding. (Some riding boots are available at camp to borrow.) Riding helmets will be provided.
