    Fruit Pruning DemonstrationPrune with confidence after learning the art

    and science of proper pruning practices. The

    focus will be on apples, peaches, grapes and

    raspberries. This outdoor event is one of the

    most popular workshops. Dress for the outdoor

    conditions and come ready to learn. Cost: Free

    Explore the Garden Family Night:

    Grafting / Trees TourLearn the art of grafting trees from USU

    Extension Agent Mike Pace. Participants will

    watch as he demonstrates the technique and

    then try it for themselves. Cost: $10 per family

    Basic Pruning 101: Waking Up

    the LandscapeOur garden staff and Master Gardeners demon-

    strate proper pruning practices to care for fruit

    trees, deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs

    and roses. Instruction includes how to clean up

    perennials and ornamental grasses for spring.

    Pruning tools will be available to purchase.

    MARCHExtending the Garden Harvest SeasonDiscover simple ways to protect veggies from

    the cold and harvest fresh produce year round.

    The class explores hobby greenhouse designs.

    Participants get hands-on experience building a

    cold frame and take home a vegetable transplant

    Propagation Class: Hardwood CuttingsThis workshop teaches propagating plants such as

    willows, cottonwoods, grapes, and others by

    hardwood cuttings. It also covers caring for

    propagation tools, including sharpening grafting

    knives. Cost: Individual class $50 / $44

    Propagation Class #3:

    Softwood CuttingsThe third class of the series teaches propa-

    gating more difficult-to-root plants and interior

    plants by softwood cuttings using the resources

    available in the home. Special emphasis will

    be placed on the use of rooting hormones

    and moisture control systems. Layering as a

    propagation method will also be discussed.

    at our free Spring Celebration. Activities will

    include childrens crafts, tours of the Utah

    Backyard ChickensBackyard chickens help maintain a sustainable

    food source, teach kids responsibility andhave gained enormous popularity in the past

    few years. Participants will learn the basics of

    selection, feeding, management, predator

    control and legalities. Participants receive

    a coupon for 50% off a 25-pound bag of

    Start & Grow chicken feed with the purchase

    of three chicks (from Rockin E Farms).
