Thank you for your support and patronage again in 2012. We appreciate each and every purchase, large and small.

For those of you who have been in the farming industry for fifty plus years, we have seen many challenging seasons and the dry weather summer has caused much concern. Hopefully, we can all continue to look at our agricultural operations through a long-term lens and remind ourselves that each year is different and has unique opportunities. In the Stoller operation we continue to plan for the future and have added a 10,000 square foot addition to the Pontiac shop with our first 60’ wide pivoting door. We added a new 70X120’ storage building at our Minonk store and have invested in new shop lights and roof also this summer. We recently recoated the parking lot at Ottawa and have laid plans for the new outdoor signage at Herscher and have completed a new roof at the streator dealership.

Our machinery line-up from Case IH and our other manufactures is on the cutting edge of technology. This fall we will be delivering our first independent all directional cornhead from Geringhoff. This machine has the potential to revolutionize spacing on corn rows and allow farmers the ability to boost seed population at planting time.

Grain Quality: One of the basic fundamentals of an Axial Flow combine is grain quality. No other brand come close! However, we would like to bring up three points when it comes to evaluating kernel damage relating to Corn. Some operators believe that when they see kernel damage in the grain tank, that it was caused by the rotor. Contrary to belief, that is not true. The axial flow rotor is very gentle on the grain and is not likely the cause kernel dam-age unless it is so badly set (such as concaves set too wide/or way to close, or excessive rotor speed). Here are three areas to consider when evaluating corn kernel damage:

1. Cornhead Auger setting should be considered. If the auger is set too low, the flighting can peel or cut the kernels right in half, especially in wetter moisture levels. If you are a fanatic about kernel damage, here is a recom-mendation about auger heights: With the newer Case IH corn heads, we have the option to adjust the auger flight off the bottom of the auger trough so as to have a layer of ears “still” left in the auger trough after the corn head comes out of the standing corn. This is so as not to allow the auger flight to slice into the ear of corn, causing crown damage as the ear is transported to the feeder housing. If the corn head is being operated in commercial size ears, the auger could be as much as 2.25″ to 2.5″ of the bottom of the auger trough. Whereas, with popcorn, the auger might be 1.75″ to 2″ off the bot-tom of the auger trough. 2. Watch excessive tailing levels. As you know, anything that goes through the tailings will get threshed again, and perhaps add to kernel damage. As a rule of thumb, you should not see more than a 1/3 of an auger of tailings. If you have more than this, make a sieve/fan adjustment to keep tailing low. 3. Check the clean grain elevator chain. If the chain becomes too loose, the rubber paddles will bend over more, and any kernels trapped between the elevator housing and a loose paddle may encounter damage. Case IH customers have an extensive offering of classes through the AFS

(Advanced Farming Systems) Academy, a new, dedicated training program

that focuses on Case IH precision farming products.Building the base capabilities for Advanced Farming Systems is a top

priority for Case IH in 2012, says Trevor Mecham, AFS Marketing Manager

for Case IH North America. “Classes offered through AFS Academy are

helping our customers stay on the leading edge of technology while

increasing their efficiency and minimizing downtime,” he points out.

AFS Academy is available to customers in three unique formats: web-based

classes; dealer-based instructor-led training; and intensive three-day regional

instructor-led training sessions.Web-based TrainingCustomers can access training through the AFS Academy web portal. Here,

you can explore the training catalog, watch tutorials and videos, enroll in

complete web-based courses, download informational documents and guides,

and more.Dealer-based Instructor-led TrainingDealers have the opportunity to hold instructor-led training sessions for

customers on-site. These classes are scheduled to last no more than five hours.
