The 2012 North Rangers football media guide is intended to be a
comprehensive navigational tool for all those who follow the program or
cover it for a local media outlet. The information obtained should provide
a glimpse back into the history of the North football program, a detailed
account of last year’s 7-3 season, a preview of this year’s schedule and a
look at all the players and coaches who will make up the orange and
black this fall.
This media guide would not be possible without the time and assistance of
many, starting with Rangers head coach George Burich . Access to
statistics, school records, team information and availability for interviews
with assistant coaches and players was paramount in the completion of
the media guide.
In addition, thanks to all who provided information on administrators, past
teams and players, etc. There are too many to name individually. A huge
debt of gratitude goes out to the “architect” of the media guide, Ed
Daugherty . Without Daugherty’s hard work, passion, professionalism, talent
and creativity, this would be nothing more than a concept instead of a
tangible document. Good luck to Coach Burich and North as the season
kicks off August 24 at Brush. Go Rangers.

special education teacher, a position he still holds today.
Reilly was the head coach of the varsity boys’ basketball team from
2004-2007. He was the assistant athletic director from 2007-2009. In 2009,
he succeeded Jim Miller as North’s AD when Miller stepped down prior

The Willoughby-Eastlake School District also has set a goal to end fiscal
year 2013 with a positive cash balance of at least $8.5 million.
When Jennifer Chauby was hired by Willoughby-
Eastlake in 1998, she taught 9th grade science,
chemistry and physics.
During her tenure as a teacher in the district,
she also coached tennis and volleyball as well
as serving as class advisor, rocket club advisor
and robotics team coach. In 2004-2005, Chauby
was named Lubrizol Lake County Science Teacher of the Year.
In 2006 she was promoted to assistant principal at South High School,
and in 2008 she was named the principal at North.
Chauby grew up in Willoughby, where she attended Edison Elementary,
Willoughby Middle School and graduated from South High School. She
went on to Lakeland Community College where she played fastpitch
softball and earned her Associates Degree.
Chauby then transferred to Cleveland State University where she
earned her Bachelor’s Degree, Teacher Certification, Master’s Degree
and Superintendent’s License. She is currently working on her PhD at
Kent State University
Chauby has been married to her husband Mike for twenty years. They
live in Chardon with their three sons - Matthew age 17, Michael age 16
and Marcus age 11.
Chauby believes that all students should be involved in some type of
extracurricular activity, and supports sports, academic extracurriculars,
community involvement and other student clubs.
That is why North offers over 45 extracurricular opportunities for students
ranging from Academic Decathlon to Volunteers Club.
She instills in her students, teachers and staff that, “Getting involved and
staying involved is the key to an enjoyable and successful high school
career.”
Before coming to the Willoughby-Eastlake School District in the summer
of 2011, Steve Thompson served as the superintendent at Chagrin Falls
Exempted Village Schools for four years and as the superintendent at
West Liberty-Salem Local Schools for six years prior to that.
Thompson - who was given a five-year contract, replaced Keith Miller -
who retired after 26 years as superintendent at Willoughby-Eastlake.
Thompson is a 1989 graduate of Heidelberg College, where he earned
a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching.
Thompson is on record as saying a major accomplishment at Chagrin
Falls he was proud of was the creation and implementation of the
Bridges to the World project, with student exchanges in China and
another in South Africa.
Thompson is now in charge of a district that has 8,500 students and 14
schools. There are eight elementary schools, three middle schools and
three high schools (Eastlake North, Willoughby South and the Technical
Center) in the district.

Honoring the Past
1972 Season Results
Head Coach: Vic McIntire

The North Rangers are honoring the 40th
anniversary of the 1972 Greater Cleveland
Conference championship team; a team
that set a school record with a 9-1 season.
This fall, the Rangers will wear the same
style "N" on their helmets as the 1972 team
wore in their record-setting season.
The 1972 Rangers, led by legendary
coach Vic McIntire, won the outright GCC
crown for the first time since 1962. The
Rangers were finally able to hang the
championship banner in 1972, after
finishing second in both 1970 and 1971.
The Rangers were led by a dominating
defense - dubbed by one local
sportswriter as "The Big Orange Crush".
North allowed a mere 47 points in 10
games, posted three shutouts and didn't
give up more than eight points to any
team during the season.
The Rangers only loss came to Midpark, a
7-0 defeat in Week 6. NOrth responded by
winning four straight to close the year.
A 29-0 blasting of Berea in the final week
of the season clinched the outright GCC
championship for North, but unfortunately
and surprisingly it was not enough to get
the Rangers into the Ohio High School
Athletic Association postseason
tournament.
1972 marked the first time the OHSAA had
sanctioned a post-season tournament for
football, and the governing body used a
mathematical calculation developed by
a local man.
Only the top team in each of the four
regions of a given division (in 1972 only 3
divisions were recognized by the OHSAA)
were given a berth in the state semi-final
game.

The award for the player who best embodies
what it means to be a North Ranger and put all
individual recognition aside is the Brian
Weitzman Award.
On September 11, 1978, Brian Weitzman died in
an airplane crash along with his father, his
brother, Mitchell, and three others. Weitzman
was a senior at the time and was co-captain
and starting center for the football team.
He served as officer for the junior class council.
He was described as an excellent athlete, true
sportsman and a friend
Bruce Yee played defensive middle guard as a
sophomore at North and then played tackle on
the varsity. At the beginning of summer
practice prior to the start of his senior season
with the Rangers, Yee succumbed to leukemia.
Yee was highly respected among teammates
and coaches. The Booster Club established the
Bruce Yee Memorial Plaque for the lineman
of the year. The criteria for being selected goes
beyond the football field. The winner is to be
chosen based on leadership, friendliness,
sportsmanship, desire, team spirit, cleanliness,
loyalty, honesty and trustworthiness.
A popular park and softball field also bear
Bruce Yee's name in Eastlake.
Ranger Honors
Warren Howland
Cleveland St Joseph
Berea
Three awards are given out by the North
coaching staff at the end of every season that
have much more meaning than the usual MVP
award might represent.
That's because of the three former Rangers
football players for whom these honors are
named for.
The Jeffrey Neumann Award has been
established to honor Neumann and the award
is given to the team's top offensive or defensive
back of the year.
Neumann, a starting cornerback for the
Rangers in 2006, drowned at Mentor Headlands
Beach on July 11, 2007 - just weeks before two-
a-day practices for his senior season were set to
begin. Neumann was a talented defensive
back and a popular player at North. His tragic
and unexpected death rocked the program.
This is the fifth year anniversary of Neumann's
passing.
In 1972, only the top team in each region
qualified for the OHSAA football playoffs.

2012 FOOTBALL MEDIA GUIDE
THIS IS NORTH HIGH SCHOOL
NORTH RANGERS
We have had a guest speaker
come in and talk about what
soldiers go through in war. The
kids really respond to it. It is a big
community project as well and
the commitment from everyone
at North High School has been
great.
Rangers Embrace Wounded Warrior Project
It goes back to when I was in 9th grade and
Coach (Dan) Kukura would always break the
huddle and say, 'Repeat after me - Believe in
myself, believe in my teammates, believe in a
win.'
That really stuck with me, especially because
my father was my coach in youth football and
those words really spoke to me and pushed me
and I tried to do things that way.
When I got here at North, it wasn't a philosophy
that was used, but when I took over as head
coach, I knew it was something I wanted to
bring back and stress to our guys. I shortened it
up to BSTW once in a practice plan and it took
off from there.
The North Rangers are one of about 100 high
schools nationwide who have supported the
Wounded Warrior Project the past few years in
an effort to raise $100,000 to help injured
veterans from the time they finish surgery all the
way through to their daily life out of service.
North's team goal the first year in 2010 was to
raise $2,500. The Rangers defeated Bishop Ryan
in the first game dedicated to supporting
military veterans two years ago and surpassed
that goal by raising close to $3,000 for the
project.
North raised $6,372.25 in donations leading up
to its Military Appreciation Game to benefit the
Wounded Warrior Project on September 9, 2011.
In that game, the Rangers whipped visiting
Midpark, 62-14, to improve to 2-0 when wearing
camouflage jerseys in honor of the Wounded
Warrior Project.
North coach George Burich has a greater
respect for the military than many high school
football coaches in Northeast Ohio for the
simple fact that he has family ties to armed
forces.
Burich's brother, Mike, is currently serving in the
military and his late father, George, was a
Vietnam veteran.
So when the idea of supporting
the Wounded Warrior Project
was brought to Burich's
attention three years ago, it
didn't take long for the Rangers
to get on board with their coach
and get behind the worthy cause.
This marks the third year of wearing the
camouflage jerseys and raising money and
awareness for injured military veterans. Military
appreciation night for North is September 21 vs.
Riverside.
The first year we raised $3,000 and last year we
raised more than $6,000 and we just hope that
it gets better and better each year,” Burich
said.
For the players, I think it is a special thing for the
kids, and it's not something other schools do.
We don't necessarily get a lot of fanfare or
attention from it, but we are hoping more
awareness is spread and more schools get
behind the project.
In the past, donations have been accepted
and collected in the stands by freshman
football players and cheerleaders. The
proceeds from the 50-50 raffle will be donated
to the project. Wounded Warrior Project T-shirts
are sold.
For more information or to find out more about
how you can support the Wounded Warrior
Project, contact North coach George Burich at
440-975-3688 or e-mail
Theories have ranged on the meaning of the
four letters on the North gear for years. Many
have guessed it had something to do with the
rival school in Willoughby - Beat South This
Week was popular guess. Be Strong To Win was
another familiar guess at the meaning behind
the letters.
But Burich said it's more of a philosophy and an
approach than a phrase shortened to an
acronym and it is one that he continues to
bring up and pound into the psyche of every
players in the orange and black.
First we tell them to believe in themselves,
because if you don't have self-belief you can
do something, you can't help your team. Next
you have to believe in your teammates and
have faith in them as much as you have faith in
your individual abilities. If you do that, you have
to believe wins will come. It's something that
always rang very true with me and I wanted to
make it a part of this program.
BSTW - More Than Letters
BSTW more than just an acronym for the
Rangers
If you’ve ever seen a North player wearing an
orange and black shirt with the four letters
“BSTW” on it and wondered what it stood for,
it’s probably not what you think. If you’ve never
seen the letters on any Rangers apparel, all you
have to do is get stuck behind Coach George
Burich in traffic and there it is - on his vanity
license plate.
Believe in Self, Believe in Teammates, Believe in
a Win.
BSTW.

Ben Josipovic was Gresko's
main target in the spread
attack last year and he
returns for his senior season
as one of the most talented
athletes on the roster.
Josipovic earned numerous
postseason honors by
catching 69 passes for 1,020
yards in 2011.
However, with the graduation of a four-year starter like Gresko,
Burich will change things up on offense and try Josipovic at
quarterback.
Junior running back Mike Ranallo is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, and
should be the team's featured back this season after an
impressive junior varsity campaign.
A.J. Strnad is a senior that will play slot receiver on offense.
At 6-foot-5, junior Anton Vrabec
should become a favorite target
in the Rangers' passing attack.
And Vrabec has emerged as a
solid backup QB option.
The offensive line is a complete new unit and will be tested
because of a lack of experience.
However, Burich characterized this year's team as "tough kids,
who aren't dirty, play the game the right way, but don't take
anything from anybody." That attitude will benefit a young
group during the competitive PAC schedule.
Defensively, Austin Gomez
(6-2, 220 pounds) returns to
anchor the defensive line.
Strnad was steady at safety
last year and will move to
cornerback. The challenge
will be to replace standouts
such as linebacker Brennan
Torok and cornerback Nick
Vogel - both of whom were
selected to play in the 2012
News-Herald Senior Bowl.
Burich said overall the 2012
team is a mix of size and speed. Not huge, but not small. Not
slow, but not blazing fast either.
The key to the 2012 season is young players and some unknown
names stepping up and making an impact.
Jospiovic will be counted on heavily in whatever role he is in on
offense, but the spread attack is not a one-man show. Gresko
wouldn’t have finished his career with the eye-popping
numbers he had if not for the offensive line doing its job, the
running game providing balance, and being fortunate to play
with talented receivers on the outside.
The 2012 Rangers will need a collective team effort to reach
their goals and follow up the success of 2011. It was a
productive and promising summer, and the chemistry and
attitude seem good.
But as Burich said, it’s time to see it all be put together on the
varsity field on Friday nights. The test starts August 24th at Brush.
Which unknown Rangers are ready to step up and make a
name for themselves? Find out over the next 10 weeks.
2012 FOOTBALL MEDIA GUIDE
2012 SEASON PREVIEW
It's a new year, and almost a
brand new look for the North
Rangers.
North is coming off a 2011
campaign that ended with a
7-3 record and just short of
the program's first-ever playoff berth. It was the most wins for the
football team since 1994.
A lot of that success had to do with a strong senior class,
including record-setting quarterback George Gresko. North
coach George Burich recognizes it won't be easy to replace the
27 seniors who graduated from last year's successful team, and
there are only four returning starters, and of the four, only one
will play the same position he played in 2012.
But the optimism remains on Stevens Boulevard that some new
faces in new places will step up this fall and keep the Rangers
as a contender in the Premier Athletic Conference.

In 2011, the PAC again expanded, adding Geneva and University, and
all eight schools now play a more traditional seven-conference game
schedule in weeks 4 through 10. Riverside athletic director George
Bellios has commendably served as Premier Athletic Conference
commissioner since 1998
South has dominated the conference in football with seven
championships in the first 14 seasons, and the Rebels have won the last
four titles in a row. Geneva, Lakeside, North and University will head into
the 2012 season in search of their first PAC crown in football.
The Premier Athletic Conference was formed in 1998 with five original
members - Chardon, Madison, North, Riverside and South. The Rangers,
along with long-time rival the Rebels, arrived in the new league from the
Greater Cleveland Conference.
The football schedule for the newly formed conference was unique and
posed some scheduling difficulties early on because each school had
just four conference games and had to find six non-conference
opponents, including one in the second half of the year when most
teams are in the midst of their own conference schedule.
In 2007, Ashtabula Lakeside was added to the Premier Athletic
Conference to give the teams an even number with six schools.

2012 Premier Athletic Conference Teams The Classic at Classic Park
Chardon Hilltoppers NORTH RANGERS The Lake County Captains, the class A affiliate of
the Cleveland Indians, will host the first ever high
school football game at Classic Park on Friday,
October 26 at 7 p.m. as the North Rangers and
South Rebels will meet in "The Border Battle at
Classic Park."
The baseball field at Classic Park will be
transformed into a football field with one end zone
in front of the first base dugout and the other end
zone in front of the left field bleachers. This is a
similar configuration to the game that was played
at Wrigley Field in 2011 between Northwestern and
Illinois. Due to limited space behind the left field
end zone, the game will be played in a similar
fashion as the contest that was played at Wrigley
Field, in that the offensive team will switch
directions on the field once they reach the 30 yard
line while heading toward the bleachers.
“We have been looking into playing a football
game at Classic Park for several years and after
reviewing several field configurations, it was
determined that the proposed layout will
maximize the fan experience for this historic
rivalry,” Captains general manager Brad Seymour
said.
Tickets go on sale August 24 at the Classic Park
box office, online at CaptainsBaseball.com and by
phone at 440-954-WINS (9467). Reserved seats are
$8 in advance and $10 on the day of the game.
“We are excited for the opportunity to christen
Classic Park to football with one of the best rivalry
games in Northeast Ohio,” North coach George
Burich said.
Both schools will be offering VIP party packages
that include preferred seating and a pre-game
buffet for only $40. A limited number of party suites
are also available for $560, which includes 16
game tickets and seating in the climate
controlled Party Suite level of Classic Park.

NICK CARTER STADIUM
Nick Carter Stadium, located on
the Northeast part of the Eastlake
North High School campus, was
built in 1959. Originally, the
stadium was home to both North
and the other member of the
Willoughby-Eastlake School
District - the South Rebels - until
1963 when South built its own
facility. The Rebels play their
home games at Harry E. Winters
Stadium in Willoughby.
Nick Carter Stadium is home to
the North Rangers football team,
the North boys and girls soccer
squads and boys and girls tract
teams at the school. The stadium
seats 5,500 and the surface is
natural grass.
The annual Ranger Relays are run
at Nick Carter Stadium each
spring, one of the marquee track
and field events in Northeast
Ohio.
The stadium is named after Nick
Carter, who was a head football
coach and served as North’s
athletic director from 1959-1977
and it was formally dedicated to
Carter prior to the start of the
1978 season.
Carter was one of the original
North High Athletic Hall of Fame
inductees in 2007.
Others in the HOF Class of 2007
include Rangers icons like John
Matteucci, Vic McIntyre, Spark
Sankal, Tom Crowe and Russ
Nightengale.
Carter is also in the Perry High
School Athletic Hall of Fame.
From 1930 to 1932, Carter earned
nine varsity letters in football,
basketball and track at Perry for
the Pirates. During the 1932
football season, he carried the
ball 32 times in a row against
Mentor.
While attending Kent State
University, he lettered in
wrestling, football and track.
Carter reached the final trials for
the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team,
narrowly missing the squad. His
opponent went on to take a
silver medal in Berlin in 1936.
Nick coached high school
football, basketball, baseball and
track in Painesville from 1952 to
1957.
Renovations are planned for Nick
Carter Stadium, including an
upgrade of the restrooms and
bleachers, and the addition of on-
site locker rooms. The current
locker rooms are located inside
the high school, not in the
stadium.

Over the years, only a few changes have been
made to the original system. The OHSAA originally
began the playoffs in 1972 with just 3 divisions and
only 1 qualifying team from each of the four
regions within a division. A total of 12 teams made
the post-season in 1972.
Now, the field has been expanded to it's current
standard of 6 divisions with 8 teams qualifying from
each of the four regions in the division. A Total of
192 school participate in the OHSAA football post-
season.
Also, the third-level points, awarded the first two
years the Rating System was in place, was
eliminated prior to the 1974 season.

A former newspaper staffer and cash register
repair man from Willowick, Jack Harbin, is
essentially responsible for the playoff format used
by the OHSAA to decide its football
championships for the previous 40 years.
Harbin developed a mathmatical formula in the
1960's that is quite simple - a high school football
team earns points for every victory (or tie); then
also receives secondary points for every game a
defeated opponent wins (or ties). No points are
awarded for a loss on either level.
The OHSAA used the Harbin Rating System on a
trial basis in 1971 and in 1972 with the approval of
the Ohio High School Football Coach Association
and the OHSAA, the Board at the OHSAA officially
implemented Jack Harbin''s Rating System as the
offical determination of playoff-bound teams. No
longer would sports writers or polls determine the
state football champion.

In May 2011, the OHSAA Board of Directors
approved their bi-annual Tournament Divisions
and for football the following breakdown

Burich comments on Strnad: “He is
a starting wide receiver and starting
cornerback for us. He is a guy who
gets after the football and can be
dangerous on both sides of the ball.
He is scrappy and he is going to
fight for the ball every play.
Strnad says: “I feel like if everybody puts in their 1/11th, we will all
be fine. Everybody has to fight for a position, and that is a good
thing for competition.”
There are plenty of new faces on both sides of the ball at North this
fall, but a quartet of returning starters will be key to the success of
the Rangers.
Seniors Ron Bolden, Austin Gomez, Ben Josipovic and A.J. Strnad
are the only holdovers in the starting lineup from last year's team
that went 7-3. With the graduation of 27 seniors off the 2011 squad,
Coach George Burich and his staff will look to Bolden, Gomez,
Josipovic and Strnad not only for production on the field, but for
leadership as well.
"I think the fact that they have some experience on the varsity level
is going to help them motivate their teammates," Burich said.
"Whether it as an extension of us as coaches or getting the team to
do things the right way, it is nice to have four guys like that who
care about the team and care about winning so much."
Ron Bolden, DB
Burich comments on Bolden: "Ron
isn't the biggest kid, but he is a wrestler,
he is a kid who gives 100 percent on
every play and really gets after the ball.
He is a good kid to have around the team,
too. He is kind of our team chaplain. He
does a lot with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. At the same
time, he is the guy who will get after his opponent and his
teammates when necessary."
Bolden says: "As returning starters, we need to set the mentality for
the rest of the team. We have a lot of new names and unproven
players and it is our responsibility to help them develop and
believe in their talent. I feel the four returning starters grew a lot
together, and even some of the other players on the team just
gained so much from the experience of last year. Now we have to
go out this season and get it done on the field."
Burich said the four returning starters have the attitude and mindset
to not take any nonsense from anyone and to play with a chip on
their shoulders. That personality has been taken on by the entire
Rangers team, which led Burich to call the 2012 team “the
toughest team I have coached”. The toughness starts with Bolden,
Gomez, Josipovic and Strnad.
“It’s how they are, it’s how their friends are and the team has
adopted a little of that toughness and will never back down from
anyone or any challenge,” Burich said.
Austin Gomez, OL/LB
Burich comments on Gomez: “Austin is
quiet around other people, but on the
team he is the guy who gets things going.
He is an extremely physical football player.
He played defensive end mostly last year,
but this year we moved him to outside linebacker
to get some drops and make people worry about coming
anywhere near his area on the field.”
Gomez says: “I think we all need to step up because we want to
win and we feel like we can win even if people are overlooking us.
As the four returning starters, we feel like leaders, but we also feel
like we mesh well together with the underclassmen. We are all
going to need to contribute this year.”
Ben Josipovic, QB/DB
Burich comments on Jospiovic: “Ben has
been a tremendous football player for us
for three years. He has proven to be a
fantastic offensive player and now he is
going to play defense for us as well.
When a guy who has Division I talent is
so unselfish that he is will to change positions and do what is best
for the team, that is a special kid to have around.”
Josipovic says: “We feel a certain responsibility because we
started and we were out there last year under the lights on Friday
nights, but this isn’t just our team. We feel like it is the whole senior
class’ team. The important thing is to lead by example. Just yelling
at someone doesn’t mean that much. We feel like we have talent,
and I know this team has a ton of heart.”

“My dad was really strict and he was hard on me, but he raised me right
and pushed me for the right reasons. He was very influential to me in my
personal and professional life and I think about him all the time.”
The goals on the field for Burich and the Rangers continue to be to strive
for the team’s first PAC championship and to try to qualify for a
postseason berth in the brutal Division I, Region 1 field that includes
defending state champion St Ignatius, St Edward, Solon, Mentor,
Glenville and rival South among annual contenders.
In 2011, Burich helped North jump out to a 5-0 start to the
season, threatening to make the Division I playoffs for the
first time in program history. The Rangers finished 7-3 and
missed the D-I, Region 1 field by a few spots, but it was the
most wins by a North football team since the early 1990s.
Burich coaches in the same manner he played - with a lot
of focus and passion. And being at the helm of his alma
mater’s football team is a responsibility he doesn’t take
lightly.
“The chance to coach at your alma mater is a dream
come true for me. It’s where I’ve always wanted to be. It’s
not exactly how I envisioned it happening, but I feel like
this is the right job for me.
Burich’s father passed away from a sudden heart attack on April 13,
2002. George Burich Jr was a marine and a Vietnam veteran and
someone who Burich had the utmost respect for as a father and as a
coach when he played in the youth leagues.
Burich spent one year at Maple Heights before coming
back home to Stevens Boulevard and joining North’s staff
in 1999. Using his defensive expertise, he quickly worked his
way up from defensive line coach to defensive
coordinator, and now - ironically - Burich is at the helm of
his team’s wide-open spread offense. Burich took over as
the offensive architect of the spread after former offensive
coordinator Kahari Hicks left before the 2011 season.
The love for the orange and black was planted at a young
age, which makes the opportunity to take over the
program and try to turn it in the right direction even that
much more special.
Burich has always loved football. While he thought about
teaching and coaching, Burich started off at Mercyhurst
studying sports medicine, but quickly realized that path
wasn’t for him. He became involved with special
education students and eventually earned a degree in the
field and has gone on to be a special education teacher
at the high school.
The George Burich File
I am where I belong. Life is strange sometimes and how I got the job
was a little weird, but it has been an enjoyable ride the last five years.
Coaching at your alma mater is just extra motivation to make sure
everything is done right.”
Burich - whose father, George, served in Vietnam and whose brother
Mike currently serves in the military - has been a proponent of the
Wounded Warrior project, which the Rangers will participate in for the
third year this fall. Burich has spearheaded several fundraising initiatives
for the program, including Night at the Races, which has been a major
success.

returning to his alma mater to coach
the running backs and offensive line.
After leaving Stevens Boulevard, Glodowski continued his
playing career with the Hiram Terriors, playing college football in
the very tough North Coast Athletic Conference.

Mike Fellenstein enters his 8th season
on the staff at North High School.
Fellenstein is currently the wide receivers
coach. His group of receivers, led by
returning starter, Ben Josipovic, helped recently-graduated
quarterback George Gresko set school and county passing
records.
Under Fellenstein’s guidance, wide receiver Kyle Holzheimer was
selected to play in the News-Herald Senior Bowl in 2012 and the
offense as a whole accumulated more than 2,300 yards through
the air.
Fellenstein played offensive line for the Heidelberg Student
Princes in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
Fellenstein is a teacher at Eastlake Middle School and recently
married his wife Jamie.

Defensively, North posted shutouts over Lakeside in Week 7 and against
Geneva in Week 9. Seniors Brennan Torok, Jeremy Lemieux and Mike Frank
and Kyle Holzheimer were among the standouts on the defensive side of
the ball for the Rangers. The Class of 2012 set the bar high for future players
at North on offense and defense, but Burich is confident in the youth
system and in the student-athletes currently in the program. While there will
be a lot of new faces this year after being hit hard by graduation, the
goals on Stevens Boulevard do not change. Challenging for the PAC
championship and that elusive Division I playoff berth is what all players
and coaches wearing orange and black this season will be striving for.
The campaign for the 2011 North Rangers started off with a record-
breaking night on the ground in the August heat and ended with a record-
breaking night on the ground in the mud in late October. The opening-
night rushing theatrics - provided by Rangers senior running back Jordan
Morris’ 304 yards and 3 TDs - got the season off to rousing start with a win
over highly touted Brush and sparked North to a 5-0 beginning for the fifth
time in school history and the third time in the last 38 years.
However, the Rangers hit a few bumps on the Premier Athletic Conference
road during the second half of the season, and the run into the record
books in the final game of the year was not accomplished by Morris, but
rather by All-Ohioan Kareem Hunt of rival South. Hunt’s 485-yard, 6-
touchdown game lifter the Rebels to a 45-26 victory and dropped the
Rangers to 7-3 on the season. The win locked South in to the playoffs as the
The loss ended North’s bid for a first-ever spot in Week 11, and closed the
career of record-setting quarterback George Gresko, Morris and a strong
senior class. The Rangers finished 12th in Division I, Region 1 - four places
behind the eighth and final seed Cleveland JFK for a spot in the playoffs.
The 2011 Rangers will forever be remembered as an exciting team to
watch, both offensively and defensively. With good athletes and high-
energy playmakers on both sides of the ball, North won 7 games in a
season for the first time since the early 1990s. The Rangers raced to a 5-0
start, scoring 193 points in those opening five victories - including PAC wins
over Chardon and Riverside.
A tough 27-20 loss on the road at Madison in Week 6 stopped the winning
streak. Gresko played through a shoulder injury that would require off-
season surgery and padded the passing records he had already owned at
the school due in large part to an eye-popping junior season. The hurry-up,
wide-open passing attack North utilizes not only allowed Gresko to pile up
big numbers and Morris - when healthy - to keep defenses off balance, but
it provided the ideal situation for a breakout year for an underclassmen
Burich and company will count heavily in 2012.
Wide receiver Ben Josipovic earned numerous postseason honors by
catching 69 passes for 1,020 yards. Josipovic is expected to move to
quarterback and take over the high-octane attack this fall.
It could also be described as an incredibly frustrating one considering how
close Coach George Burich’s talented North squad was to qualifying for
the Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason for the first time in
the program’s history.
