2012 Unit Popcorn Sales Guide
Congratulations! You and your Scouts raised more than $405,000 to
fund your unit’s programs in 2011! This was a great Popcorn Sale in the
middle of what some might say is the worst economy in many years. It
just goes to show that in these strained economic times parents are
looking for any way to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses of Scouting.
The popcorn sale is the easiest way to do this!
There were a few units in each district that averaged between $500 to
$550 in sales per Scout! For those families, all the expenses for their
son’s year of Scouting was completely covered. And those Scouts
learned a valuable lesson in how to pay their own way.
The good news is that any unit can have these same results, and its not
that hard to make it happen. The council popcorn team is committed to
making 2012 the best sale ever, because we don’t believe that money
should be a deterrent to running a great program.
The district Popcorn Kernels, the Council Staff, and I stand ready to
assist you in having your greatest sale ever!
Let’s have a great year,
Rachel Rash

STEPS TO SUCCESS
Establish an Annual Plan and Budget with input from your Scouts and
Parents.
Set a Unit Popcorn Sales Goal, and break that goal down to a Per Scout
Goal based on the plan and budget.
Put together an exciting incentive program for your unit on top of
Council and Trail’s End prizes.
Try the following ideas:
Give a gift certificate to the 1st week’s top seller
Have a pizza party for the top selling den or patrol
Have a small prize for the Scouts who fill up a take order form
Monitor the sale each week and give awards as you go
Offer a mystery house and clues throughout the sale in a new
neighborhood yet to be covered
Conduct a FUN Unit Popcorn Kick-Off to train and motivate your Scouts
and Parents.
Be sure to take advantage of the helpful training materials available at
trails-end.com including the online Kick-Off Training video.
Utilize all sales methods to make sure your Unit and Scouts hit their
sale goals:
Show & Sell (Order product ahead of time and sell at store front)
Take Order (Door to door or store front sales on an
order form)
Online Sales (E-mail friends and family locally and
nationally)
Effective communication before, during and after the sale.
Have Fun!!!
If your unit needs
$3,300 to fund your
Day Camp fees then
you would need to sell
$10,000 in Popcorn
