    Over 16,000 students, from all over the UK as

    well as from 100 countries worldwide, currently

    study at Loughborough. Academic schools at

    the University cover a wide range of disciplines

    within the areas of Engineering, Business,

    Science, Social Sciences and Humanities.

    The Universitys many strengths lie not

    only in the experience thats provided to

    students, while they are here, but also in

    the legacy of education, experience and

    skills that they take with them when they

    graduate. The quality of employment entered

    into by Loughborough graduates has been

    consistently above the national average.

    Both national and international companies

    regularly approach the University to recruit

    students, which they know from experience

    or reputation are well equipped and prepared

    to meet and exceed their requirements, whilst

    benefitting the companys bottom line.

    The Campus is situated on a leafy 437 acre

    single-site and situated in the heart of the

    East Midlands of England. The University is

    easily accessible, being only 90 minutes by

    direct rail link from St Pancras Internat ional,

    London, 15 minutes from the East Midlands

    Airport and 2 miles from the M1 motorway.

    These attributes have helped to

    secure various awards and to be

    Loughborough University Careers

    and Employability Centre is

    dedicated to providing employers

    with a wide range of advice and

    services in order to connect

    with our highly talented pool

    of students and graduates.

    This brochure details a wide

    variety of opportunities and

    services that have been

    successfully utilised over a

    number of years by a wide range

    of local, national and international

    companies to inform and recruit

    the graduates they seek.

    National surveys repeatedly show

    that Loughborough University

    Careers and Employability Centre

    is highly respected by employers

    and that the Centre is widely

    used and appreciated by the

    students at Loughborough.

    A dedicated specialist employer liaison

    team responsible for liaising directly with

    companies ensuring that our students

    and graduates have the most up-to-date

    information from all leading recruiters;

    A full programme of workshops, talks and

    other events from both professional staff

    located within the CEC and employers;

    A vacancy website detailing a wide range

    of placement and graduate opportunities

    accessible not only to current students,but Loughborough graduates as well;

    Careers advisers who run sessions within

    academic schools to help students prepare for

    placements, graduate careers and further study;

    Hosting the Loughborough Employability

    Award which recognises the value of student

    participation in activities outside of studies;

    A wide range of employer information, audio-visual

    equipment for watching promotional DVDs and

    computers for accessing vacancy information

    and completing application forms are available

    in the Careers and Employability Centre library.

    The CEC is very popular with students and last year

    was used by over 75% of finalists at Loughborough

    as well as engaging with students from all otheryears at various points during their time here.

    Loughborough University Careers and Employability Centre aims to

    enhance the quality and employability of all the Universitys students

    and graduates, helping them to make informed decisions about

    their careers. The Centre not only provides extensive advice to

    students, but also a variety of other services and events

    to aid every aspect of their journey to employment

    and beyond, including:

    The Universitys commitment to ensuring the

    Providing degree programmes that are

    tailored to produce the type of graduates

    recruiters seek and industry needs;

    Undertaking leading research which informs teaching

    and learning making it relevant, and equipping

    students to be at the cutting edge of many industries;

    inform and shape our students experiences;

    Offering a large number of courses with

    placement opportunities and the relevantsupport from both academic departments

    and the Careers and Employability Centre;

    Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair

    The Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair at Loughborough is the

    biggest University one-day graduate recruitment event of its kind and

    is organised by the CEC. Attr acting over 140 exhibitors and over 5,000

    students annually, the fair is a great opportunity for employers to interact

    with students and advertise placement and graduate opportunities.

    This fair was fantastic with a good varietyof well-prepared students of which the

    standard was very high Decathlon

    Spring Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair

    The Spring Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair takes place in

    the second semester and sees upwards of 1,500 students seeking

    graduate, placement and vacation opportunities, as well as advice

    on further study. With over 65 exhibitors at this event it is a great

    opportunity to engage with the Universitys quality students directly.

    Organisation was very slick, everythingwent extremely smoothly with goodquality, and quantity, of studentsattending Barclays Capital

    Both fairs are promoted t o all students on campus via direct email,

    plasma screens, an extensive cross campus poster and flyer

    campaign, internet notice boards and social networking sites.

    The Careers and Employability Centre provides us withappropriate platforms on which to help build the skillsof top students whilst offering consistent exposure tothe Universitys most engaged studentsAccenture

    Employer Presentations

    Employer presentations are a great way to

    raise the profile of employers on campus

    and to promote opportunities to students.

    The format for the event is led by the employer

    but with advice and guidance from the CEC

    on what makes a presentation successful

    and which also appeals to students.

    Drop-In Sessions

    Organising a drop-in session in a high foot fall

    area in a prime location on campus is a

    unique opportunity to interact with passing

    students, to raise brand awareness and to

    communicate recruitment opportunities.

    The CEC will be able to identify and book a

    location to meet your needs from 11am to

    3pm during key times in both semesters.

    Advertising on the CECs website

    and distribution of your promotional

    materials across campus for this

    session is included in the package.

    On Campus Interviews

    and Assessment Days

    Facilities are available to employers toundertake interviews or assessment

    days with our students and the centre

    can arrange for the hire of an interview

    room on campus on your behalf.

    Ad-Hoc Events

    The Employer Liaison Team is committed

    to providing a consistently high level of

    customer service and is therefore willing

    and able to organise most ad-hoc activities

    on behalf of employers. The types of

    ad-hoc requests in the past have ranged

    from promotional hot air balloons to

    crime scene investigations and from fish

    and chip vans to freedom of movement

    displays. The team are happy to receive allrequests, however innovative, and will aim

    to accommodate these wherever possible.

    As part of the package for all these activities

    the Employer Liaison Team provides the

    following: a dedicated member of staff to

    organise the venue, both on and off campus,

    catering, audio-visual equipment hire,

    advertising and booking management, as

    well as all other necessary requirements.

    Employers can advertise vacancies free

    of charge for placement, internship and

    graduate opportunities on Careers Online.

    Careers Online is the CECs interactive

    system whereby employers can manage

    their own account and upload or edit

    vacancies as and when required. The system

    is widely used by Loughboroughs 17,000

    students as well as past graduates.

    Promotional Materials

    The CEC is happy to receive employer

    posters and promotional materials, whichcan be distributed campus-wide as well

    as being displayed within the CEC.

    Targeted Emails

    The CECs targeted email service

    provides employers with the opportunity

    to communicate their opportunities

    to students remotely, quickly and

    directly into their email box.

    The process for sending emails is very

    simple, once the form is completed

    and returned by the employer, within

    three days of receipt the mail shot canbe sent directly to all Loughborough

    students or targeted groups, including:

    Specific year groups i.e. first year,

    second year, finalist or postgraduate

    School/Department

    Nationality

    The CEC has a range of services available

    for small to medium sized enterprises

    which can be tailored to meet the individual

    needs of each company. A member of

    the Employer Liaison Team can meet with

    company representatives to offer advice

    on recruiting graduates and to identify the

    appropriate CEC service/s to attract suitable

    candidates from Loughborough to apply.

    To help nurture and support Loughborough

    students employability development the

    CEC runs a series of skills sessions and

    workshops throughout the academic year.

    Topics covered can include commercial

    awareness, leadership, networking skills,

    interview techniques, covering letters

    and many more. These sessions are led

    by trained careers staff and can attract

    up to 200 students for each event.

    Employers are invited to contribute to these

    sessions and are also able to organise

    their own skills session at a convenient

    time and on relevant topics to suit both the

    student and the companys requirements.

    The Employer Liaison Team can

    provide and facilitate various

    sponsorship opportunities for

    employers to promote their

    opportunities further.

    These include:

    CEC Finalist Packs: 2,000 are producedeach year for finalist students and contain

    information on career related topics, as

    well as a range of employer information and

    promotional items.

    CEC Careers Fairs: at each of theseevents a glossy, attractive A4 programme

    is designed which is available to students

    both online prior to each event, and also in

    hard copy on the day. Employers are able

    to place adverts in this publication and

    this is a fantastic way to reach thousands

    of students.

    Loughboroughs Student Union:various opportunities are available to

    employers to promote their brand and

    opportunities via the Lufbra union. These

    include plasma screens, posters, emailshots, exhibition stands and the website.

    Loughborough Students UnionExecutive: opportunities via the Executivecan include, sponsoring elections, societies,

    and student social events as well as

    sports teams.
