Welcome...
At Tiffi n University, our students endeavour to excel in both the classroom and the athletic arena. Our athletic programs have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years with conference championships, teams being nationally ranked and challenging at national tournaments. There have been numerous individual accolades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study conducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffin University in the last five years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%.
We are proud of our rich history and look forward to setting new milestones as we enter the NCAA Division II playing fi eld and the highly competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We are proud of our athletes and what they have accomplished. They have been the force behind the winning tradition that has been established, and I am confi dent the future will also be highly successful for Tiffi n University athletics.

Welcome to th i s a th l e t i c season a t Ti ff in Un ive r s i ty. I invite you to watch and cheer for all of our women’s and men’s teams. Intercollegiate athletics play an important role at Tiffi n University. The students who participate develop life-long friendships and learn leadership and teamwork skills, how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals, how to deal with adversity, the importance of persistence, sportsmanship, and physical fi tness, and other skills and abilities that contribute to satisfying and productive lives and careers. Our athletic program also provides visibility and name recognition for TU, helps develop a sense of excitement, morale and school spirit on campus, and provides opportunities for students, employees, alumni, and supporters to unite behind a common goal. We are especially proud of the high standards of conduct displayed by our coaches and players on and off the fi eld.

The 2011 season could be described in one word - roller coaster. The Dragons (9-8-3, 7-5-2 GLIAC) placed third in the GLIAC South Division and advanced to the GLIAC Championship Semifi nals for the second straight season.
Picked to fi nish fi rst in the GLIAC South Coaches Poll, the Dragons were up and down all season. Tiffi n started out 1-3-2 before reeling off six straight wins. After an 0-4-1 stretch, TU beat Lake Erie to get in the GLIAC Tournament. They beat Northern
Michigan 3-0 before falling to Grand Valley State 2-0 in the semi-fi nals.
Among the key losses were Shelly Rogers and Lauren Turkington, both four-year players. Rogers was named to the All-GLIAC fi rst team, All-Midwest Region second team and Capital One Academic All-
America second team after scoring six goals with 15 assists for 27 points. She led the GLIAC in total assists and nationally was second in total assists and third in average (0.75). Turkington was an all-region and all-conference selection during her career.
They say adversity builds character. Tiffi n is looking to use the experiences from 2011 to their advantage in 2012. The Dragons welcome back seven starters and 21 of 26 letterwinners from last season.
Tiffi n has their top two goal scorers back in senior Alexandra Sevastakis and junior Lauren Bowyer. Sevastakis had eight goals and four assists for 20 points while Bowyer had nine goals and two assists for 20 points. They combined for four game-
winning goals. Back for her fi nal season is two-time All-GLIAC honoree Ashley Davis. She had four goals and two assists for 10 points while starting all 20 games.
Defensively, the Dragons got a boost when senior Sheena Maravich decided to come back. She
missed the 2009 season to injury and graduated last spring but decided to enroll in graduate school. Helping to key the defense are returning starters senior Stephanie Bowman and sophomore Jourdan Larison.
The goal keeping will be a battle between senior Lindsay Gallagher and sophomore Hayley Coppola. Gallagher is a two-year starter who posted 110 saves last season. That ranked her among the top 30 in the country and was the third highest total in TU history. Coppola started the last three games of 2011 with two shutouts in her fi rst two starts.

Paula Fantini enters her third year as Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Tiffi n University.
Fantini, a native of Brazil, was named GLIAC South Coach of the Year in 2010 after leading the Dragons to a fi rst place fi nish and NCAA postseason berth with a 12-6-2 overall record. This marks the second time in four years that the Lady Dragons have qualifi ed for the NCAA National Tournament.
A former women’s soccer star at Union College (KY), Paula Fantini joined the Lincoln Memorial coaching staff in 2007 after obtaining a double major in physical education and sports management, minors in health and general business and a master’s in health and physical education.
While serving as assistant for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Lincoln Memorial, the teams both had winning records. The men’s team fi nished second in the South Atlantic Conference last year with a 10-5-1 record and record of 21-12-3 during Fantini’s tenure. The women’s team went 18-14-4 overall during that same stretch. In 2007 both the men’s and women’s teams at LMU won the SAC regular season and tournament championships. The men’s squad fi nished as NCAA National Runner-up, winning the Appalachian Region Championship while the women reached the Southeast Region Semifi nals.
As a student-athlete, Fantini excelled on and off the fi eld. She was a Dean’s List honoree every semester at Union, and was a three-time Academic all-conference honoree, as well as a two-time All-American Scholar Athlete. She was named All-Conference and All-Region three times, and was named All-American twice. She ranks fourth in career points in Union’s history.
Fantini has a strong coaching background in both club soccer (Impact USA Nike) and in college soccer (University of Campinas).
Melissa Bigg enters her second year assisting with the Dragons. A native of Canada, she comes to Tiffi n University after working as a certifi ed ACE personal trainer in a Cincinnati sports club. Before working she pursued her academic and soccer career at the University of Cincinnati, where she played all 65 games as a midfi elder in her four years and was named captain in her senior season. She also has experience playing in the W-League between 2006 & 2009, and winning a Canadian Club National Championship in 2005. She graduated in June of 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Promotion Exercise and Fitness and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Business in Sports Management.

Paradiso Athletic Complex Tiffi n University enjoys playing its home games at the Paradiso Athletic Complex. One of many attractive new fa-cilities on display, the Paradiso Athletic Complex is one of the top soccer fi elds in the area. With warmup fi elds, a large outfi eld electronic score-board, a new press box area, fi lming platforms, and team dugouts, the fi eld offers the Tiffi n University soccer teams a great place to call home. The fi eld is just 1.5 miles from the Tiffi n University campus and resides on 78 acres of land that also house all the outdoor athletics teams at TU. The Paradiso Athletic Complex debuted in the fall of 1997. Also included are two softball fi elds, Heminger fi eld, two football practice fi elds, a Nature Preserve, and a de-
veloping outdoor track and fi eld facility. Another new addition to the fi elds is the Athletic Fieldhouse. In addition, there is expanded parking accomodating hundreds of vehicles. An indoor practice facility is also in development nearby.

Soccer FacilitiesHeminger Center
The latest addition to the campus, the Heminger Center, features an indoor track and fi eld complex and a 60x50 yard turf indoor practice facility.
One major portion of the build-ing includes an indoor track and four multi-purpose courts that will be used for basketball, vol-leyball, and tennis. The other large portion has artifi cial turf and will be used for practices by the TU football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and softball teams, in addition to intramurals, club sports and other recreational ac-tivities. The middle section of the
facility has coaches’ offi ces, locker rooms, an athletic training room, two classrooms, and a food court.
Physical Fitness CenterTU also enjoys using the Tiffi n University Physical Fitness Center, yet another recently expanded facility benefi ting the student-athlete on TU’s ever-growing campus. The facility, which recently doubled in size, features a cutting-edge weight center that is continually upgraded with new equipment.

As Athletic Director at Tiffi n University and Head Baseball Coach since 1992, I can personally attest to the fact that this is an exciting time at Tiffi n University and particularly its athletic department.
