Mrs. Stephanie’s Preschool During the month of November we learned about the first Thanksgiving. We talked about the Pilgrims and Native Americans. The children had a great time reenacting the first Thanksgiving on the playground by pretending that the play equipment was the Mayflower. The children were also given the opportunity to talk about and illustrate what/who they are thankful for. We are continuing to work on many skills such as recognizing and writing the alphabet, numbers/counting and writing our names. It was a wonderful month full of lots of learning and fun!

Mrs Jennifer’s Preschool Mrs. Jennifer’s Preschool class has been studying Elections and the First Thanksgiving during November. We had our own election and voted for our favorite cookie. We tried each cookie before casting ballots and then charting who the winner was. We have also been talking about the first thanksgiving. We made Pil grim hats as well as turkey feather hats.

Media Center News Our Ahoy, Matey! Genre Stars for the month of October were Addy Walker, Cohen Bailey, Dakia Carbon, Daniel Hatcher, Gabriel Schoonover, Jackson Whitesell, Jayden Anderson, Jomar Anton, Kaitlyn Wagoner, Kendyl Knight, Matisse Dalton, Menza Velotta, Sierra Voyles and Sydney Bunch. These students read three books in a genre and then passed the Accelerated Reader quiz over the books. This is a great way for students to try different types of books. They will become better readers the more they read! Our first Genre Book Club has begun for this school year. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade were able to sign up for our book club. They will learn more about literary genres as well as earn at least one genre dog tag and get their pictures onto our Genre Wall of Fame! They will also learn how to decide which genre the books they read fall into so several of those in the club will actually earn more dog tags! This Genre Book Club will have its final meeting on December 13th. The 5th grade Dewey Helpers have been hard at work helping out with work that needs to be done in the media center. They check books out and in, shelf books, help clean the media center and do various other duties such as processing new books and making deliveries around the school. I greatly appreciate all of their help! I can, however, always use more help in the media center. If you would be interested in volunteering in the media center, please email me at [email protected] or call at 270-852-7170. Any help would be great. If you normally sit in the car rider line, you could come in and help in the media center instead! Your child could come to the media center at the end of the day and you could leave school at the same time without sitting in your car waiting!!As always be sure to keep on reading!
