Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Extracurriculars. Through the challenging study of the liberal arts and sciences – including 40 college-level and honors courses as well as specialized inde-pendent studies – our graduates are prepared to succeed at some of the finest colleges and universities in the nation. Our highly successful athletics program emphasizes sportsmanship, healthy competition, and camaraderie, offering 42 interscholastic teams in 15 sports. And our robust extracurricular program includes com-munity service opportunities as well as a wide variety of clubs and activities.

Community and Spiritual Life. The Episcopal experience is rooted in self-discovery. Our extraordinary residential community provides the perfect opportunities for such discovery to occur. Living on dorm with classmates and

teachers as neighbors inspires formative, lifelong friendships. In addition, Episcopal has maintained a commitment to developing the spiritual life of each student. As a community, students attend chapel services three times a week, which gives students and faculty alike time for personal reflection and renewal. The School also ensures that every student has access and transportation to services at his or her house of worship, a broad range of which are found just minutes from campus.

OUR STUDENTS . EPISCOPAL HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLS APPROXIMATELY 435 TALENTED AND MOTIVATED 9TH THROUGH 12TH GRADE

STUDENTS (50 PERCENT BOYS AND 50 PERCENT GIRLS) WHO COME FROM 15 COUNTRIES, 30 STATES, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

WE HAVE AN OVERRIDING COMMITMENT TO SOCIOECONOMIC DIVERSITY AND MAKE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO

HELP CLOSE THE GAP BETWEEN THE COST OF ATTENDING EHS AND A FAMILY ’S ABILITY TO PAY. EPISCOPAL WELCOMES STUDENTS

OF ALL RACES, RELIGIONS, AND NATIONAL AND ETHNIC ORIGINS.

Our Faculty. At Episcopal, the quality and depth of our curriculum is matched only by the exper-tise of the people who deliver it. Approximate-ly 82 percent of the faculty have advanced degrees from the nation’s most prestigious universities, as well as significant experience in their chosen fields. With over 80 faculty members, Episcopal provides an ideal 6:1 student-teacher ratio. Fur-thermore, 85 percent of the faculty live on cam-pus, where they share their wisdom and friendship as advisors, coaches, dorm parents, and club spon-sors. Our dedicated faculty understand that learning is a journey, and it is more rewarding with a seasoned and compassionate mentor as a guide.

Our Size: Just Right. With 435 students, EHS is a school where everyone can know everyone. Typically, classes consist of 12 to 14 students, though they may be as small as five or six. Be-cause faculty generally teach four sections – or a total of 40 to 50 students in several classes at any given time – they are able to know the individual talents and needs of each student. Also, our size perfectly suits our extraordinary residential community. Here, lifelong friendships are forged, and opportunities for self-discovery and collaboration abound.

“The Episcopal High School experience is such an all-encompassing and transforming one

that it almost defies description. We, who live and work at Episcopal, witness daily

the real magic of students expanding their capacity to learn, lead, and live purposeful lives.”

VALEDICTORIAN

“Episcopal is more than just a college preparatory school. Instead, it is preparing us

to be leaders who will make the world a better place by acting with the honesty,

integrity, and compassion that are the pillars of an Episcopal education.”

Episcopal’s fully residential community inspires lifelong friendships and offers countless opportunities for students to discover who they are and to work with others toward mutual goals. Boarding schools provide an unparalleled tradition of academic excellence and diverse curricula, supported by intimate classroom settings, passionate fac-ulty, and excellent facilities. Our facilities, including state-of-the-art science and art centers and a new 60,000-square-foot athletics center, rival those of many small colleges and universities. In a recent survey by The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), 87 percent of gradu-ates report being very well prepared academically versus 71 percent of private day and 39 percent of public school alumni. Graduates enjoy a sense of independence, risk-taking, and love of learning they attribute to their boarding school experience.

OUR HONOR CODE. EACH YEAR ALL STUDENTS SIGN THE HONOR CODE, DEMONSTRATING A COMMITMENT TO LIVE AND LEARN IN

A RESPECTFUL AND TRUTHFUL WAY. THROUGH THE HONOR CODE, EPISCOPAL GUIDES STUDENTS TO BECOME DISCERNING, SELF-

RELIANT, CREATIVE, COMPASSIONATE INDIVIDUALS. WE BELIEVE THAT THE SENSE OF UNITY FOSTERED BY THE HONOR CODE IS A KEY

COMPONENT IN THE SUCCESS OF OUR ALUMNI, WHO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY IN EVERY ROLE AND AT ALL LEVELS, FROM SMALL-

BUSINESS OWNERS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO RHODES SCHOLARS AND PULITZER PRIZE WINNERS.
