The American Legion

The American Legion is the largest veteran’s organization in the

World, with a membership of more than 2.4 million veterans in

The United States, District of Columbia and seven foreign countries.

Members of the American Legion include those currently serving in the

armed forces of the United States and those men and women who were honorably discharged that

served their country on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States during World I, World

War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Granada, Panama and Persian Gulf Wars and other conflicts.

The American Legion was founded and organized in 1919. Since that time, The American Legion

has touched virtually every facet of American life, fulfilling its main objectives of service to the

community, state and nation.

The American Legion has also, for many years, conducted programs that have been designed to

benefit the youths of our nation. Some of these programs are:

American Legion Baseball was established in 1925 by American Legion

Department of South Dakota. More than 5000 teams throughout the United States

and Porte Rico participate in the American Legion Baseball Program.

Holloway-Moore Post 273 of Poquoson sponsored its first baseball team in 1950.

Its first Athletic Director was Coby Watkins, a lifelong resident of Poquoson. The

team’s first baseball coach was McAdoo Topping.

For the 2013 baseball season, there will be 6 Post sponsoring baseball teams in

District 3 of the Department of Virginia. There will be five Senior teams and five

Junior teams.
