WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER
The Lord is my strength and my shield in whom
my heart trusts, and I find help; then my
heart exults and with my song I give himthanks.
Psalm 28

I arise today, through
The strength of heaven,
The light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of rock.
I arise today, through
God's strength to pilot me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
From all who shall wish me ill, afar and
near, alone and in a multitude.
Against every cruel, merciless power that
may oppose my body and soul
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise, Christ to shield me
Christ in the heart of every one who
thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who
speaks of me.
I arise today.

COMPANIONS IN SERVICE AND SPIRITUALITY
Companions in Ignatian Service and Spirituality is an innovative Bay Areaorganization that engages adults, 50 years and older, in meaningful
service to the marginalized alongside a thoughtful program of individual
and communal prayer.
Our model taps into the desire of our elders to share skills and knowledge
through volunteer action, while at the same time offering a year long
experience of faith formation based on the Spiritual Exercises of StIgnatius.
Launched in 2008 in Santa Clara, California in partnership with the Jesuit Western
Province, we now have three communities (South Bay, East Bay and San
Francisco). Our program started in the East Bay at the Jesuit School of Theology
in 2010, and we are starting a cohort from San Francisco this fall.

ST IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA
“God freely created us so that we might know, love, and serve him in this life andbe happy with him forever. God's purpose in creating us is to draw forth fromus a response of love and service here on earth, so that we may attain our
goal of everlasting happiness with him in heaven.
All the things in this world are gifts of God, created for us, to be the means by
which we can come to know him better, love him more surely, and serve him
more faithfully.
As a result, we ought to appreciate and use these gifts of God insofar as theyhelp us toward our goal of loving service and union with God. But insofar asany created things hinder our progress toward our goal, we ought to let them
go.”
