Dear Friends,

“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” - Abraham Lincoln

2013 was an eventful and rewarding year. A year in which we were glad that the future only comes one day at a time.

Early in 2013, the Center for Children and Families said goodbye to its long-time Clini-cal Director, Fran Roberson, LCSW, who provided over two decades of dedicated service to CCFI. We were very fortunate that Heather Baker, LCSW, agreed to serve as CCFI’s new Clinical Director. Heather brought exceptional skills and experience to this role – including over five years as CCFI’s Parents Assistance Director in the 1990s.

The spring of 2013 brought horrendous tragedy to our community in the form of the May 2013 tornados; these storms devas-tated the lives of so many people in Cleve-land and Pottawatomie Counties. CCFI assisted clients and staff who were victims of the storms and became a repository for thousands of excess diapers, formula, wipes and other essential baby care items from emergency relief partners throughout the community. As a result, CCFI's Baby Pantry distributed over 90,000 diapers, thousands of cans of formula and baby food to close to 4,000 people in need.

Although the storms forced us to focus on families’ immediate needs, CCFI never lost sight of advancing key initiatives for its future. These initiatives included Theraplay® training for the counseling team, the integration of the evidence-based MindUp® curriculum at Neighbor-hood Centers, the advancement of Agency Certification through the Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health and Sub-stance Abuse Services, and the design of a new facility to improve and expand services along with the pursuit of a $3.5 million Champions for Children Campaign to fund that project.

As we celebrate 2013, we recognize and thank the hundreds of people who made CCFI’s mission possible. Because of our donors, community partners, and the 800+ volunteers who gave their time and talent we served close to 1,800 clients. We hope you will review this report and recognize that in the midst of tragedy and tumultuous change, the human spirit continuously prevails if we simply take it one day at a time.

Thank you for joining us every day in advancing our shared mission,

Katie Fitzgerald, MSW Executive Director

Kate Stanton, MHRBoard President

In August of 2013, CCFI broke ground on its new facility at 210 S. Cockrel, the former home of Immanuel Baptist Church. More than 100 community stakeholders and partners attended the groundbreaking ceremony during

which CCFI announced a $3.5 million campaign goal and a $500,000 challenge gift from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation.

CCFI’s new facility will serve as a daily reminder to children who have suffered abuse, neglect and other adversity that they are valued, worthy of the commu-nity’s investment, and capable of reaching their full potential in life. We hope you will join us in the fall of 2014 when we dedicate this new facility and launch the next chapter in CCFI’s history.
