WELCOME!

Dear Colleagues, It is time to make your reservations for the 2013 Combined Annual Meeting of the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. We are excited to once again include the Alumni from Baylor University and The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio! We are excited about the opportunities to be presented at this year’s meeting at The Grand Del Mar San Diego, April 11-14, 2013. Nestled in the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, The Grand Del Mar, Southern California’s only Triple Five-Star Resort, offers elegance and comfort within its 249 luxury room resort. Designed by architect Addison Mizner (1872-1933), the resort boasts influences from the palaces of Spain, the coastal retreats of France and the colorful art/architecture of Florence, Italy. The Grand Del Mar was voted one of the “World’s Best Places to Stay” by Condé Nast Traveler. Over the past 82 years, the Southwest Society of OMS has provided excellent annual meeting opportunities and this year is no exception. The meeting will kick off on Thursday with Colin S. Bell. DDS, MSD and David M. Grogan, DDS, MSD providing crucial and timely Office Based Anesthesia updates. On Friday, the renowned Byrd-Tilson Resident’s Day program will provide an opportunity for us to recognize the best and brightest from training programs in the Southwest region as well as California. This is the 2nd opportunity for our society to again present the Robert V. Walker, DDS award to a resident for the most outstanding presentation during this program. Following the evening reception Friday, the BOMSAA and UTHSC-SA Alumni organizations have arranged for a special dinner hosted on site in one of the acclaimed dining areas. On Saturday, registrants will have an opportunity to hear our keynote speaker, Edward E. Ellis, III, DDS, MS as he addresses current treatment of “Maxillofacial Trauma”. Additionally, this year, we are pleased to jointly sponsor this meeting with AAOMS and offer 10 hours of continuing dental (ADA CERP)* and medical (ACCME)* education credits to participants. There are numerous social activities planned including receptions on Thursday and Friday evening, Golf tournament on Thursday afternoon (The Grand Golf Club) and a special private olive oil and wine tasting and shopping excursion to La Jolla on Friday as part of the spouse/companion program. Please note: in order to be certain that our avid golfers are able to attend all sessions without interruption, we have moved the golf tournament to Thursday afternoon. Saturday evening, we will bring our annual meeting to a close with dinner on site of the resort’s beautiful lawn with music entertainment again provided by The Phat Kats. We encourage you to begin planning for this exciting weekend and to secure your hotel reservations as well as your meeting registration now. We look forward to seeing you in San Diego! Sincerely, Rick L. Hurst, DDS President, SWSOMS
