Observation Notes If a classroom is empty or is not the
subject/teacher on your schedule, make a note and notify the team leader as soon as possible. Do not reschedule on your own.
Do not improvise with your schedule; do not observe any classes that are not on your schedule. For example, you may notice that you are next door to a classroom that you are scheduled to observe later; do not go ahead and observe “while you are in the area.”

Extended Learning TimeNote the answers to the following questions:
What were the students doing? Were they engaged?
What was the teacher doing? Were the interventions/activities
appropriate and effective? (Share these data during team discussion on day 2)

Interview Notes Decide who will ask and who will script—if interviewing
with permanent GAPSS team member, let him/her ask the questions.
The interviewer’s role is now more as a facilitator. Try to get everyone to participate and not to let 1-2 dominate.
Do not ask interviewees to give their names-may ask teachers their subject area/grade level
Pace yourself with checkpoints at half and ¾ of the way through.
Do not provide advice, correctives, or suggestions. Record interviewees’ responses “as is.”

Norms Anonymity and confidentiality are the hallmarks of the GAPSS
process. Put cell phones on vibrate. Be on time for observations and interviews; follow the
observation schedule closely (to the minute). You will need a watch or cell phone.
Use the time when you are not scheduled for an observation or interview to review “other data” in the team room.
During the School Keys discussion, all must be present and focused on this task.
Do not “collect your own data” by informally talking with teachers, staff members, etc. to gain information.
