Chaplins Corner
We are saddened by the recent loss of one of our Honorary Members, WGarry B. Lee passedaway suddenly on May 22. He and his music will be missed in Lodge.
Brothers, let us send our thoughts and prayers to the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. There isan appeal from the Masonic Service Association to donate funds to the Relief effort. The Lodge in
Moore, Oklahoma was completely flattened and there is nothing left of it. There are also quite a few Brothersin that Lodge who have been left without homes or possessions. We should be looking for ways to help aideand assist our distressed Brother Masons. Please consider a donation to the cause. If you havent noticed there
is a 53 trailer sitting in the Lodge parking lot. This is going to be filled with donations to the Oklahoma disas-ter victims. Be sure and watch for news on when to bring in items to donate. When it is filled, it will be
heading to Oklahoma with an escort. Chaplin, Jim Reynolds
,Brothers, since this is going to press on May 26, some of this is going to be old news. We had some bad newsin May as we found out that our Lodge insurance was not going to be renewed by the company we had been
using. The Officers have been in contact with the agent and there have been several bids going all the way upto $11,500.00 for the same insurance we had paid $4,600.00 for, the previous year. We are currently lookingat a Fraternal Disaster Mutual Fund, Inc., which will give us good coverage at about the same price we hadbeen paying. Termites were discovered in the attic and after obtaining 4 bids, we hired Massey Pest Controland that problem is solved. They treated in the attic and outside around the building and they have guaranteedthat we wont have any more problems or they will fix them again. In the kitchen our stove repairs and up-dates to the steam table were completed and signed off. Now the icemaker has decided to give up the ghostand stop making ice. The current icemaker is a model that is larger than needed so it was decided to go with asmaller model and bids are being received on that, as this goes to press. This will save money and give us areliable source of ice for the dinners and breakfasts we put on monthly. Now the last problem, hopefully, isthe fact that the A/C has gone out in the Lodge room. This unit is 30+ years old and has gotten tired. Again,
bids are being sought for the replacement of this unit as we have been told that repairs would not be a lastingsolution to the problem. We are currently seeking four bids before proceeding and to our appendant bodies weapologize for the heat and inconvenience. Brothers, these things are the tip of the iceberg and are a result ofnot doing proper upkeep and preventive maintenance on the units when needed over a long period of time.On a lighter note, The Masters BBQ is coming up on the 20th of this month and I encourage you all to attendand have some great food and fellowship! I look for ward to seeing you at the Lodge on the 20th. I will reporton Grand Lodge in next months Trestle Board and I am sure there will be a lot to report. Until then May the
Blessings of Heaven rest upon You! W Jim Angelos

Brethren, we have been honored to have many famous men
who belonged to the Craft and brought attention to our Frater-
nity. There have been presidents, military leaders, and a host
of actors. All of which represents the best Masonry has to of-
fer, but to me there was one individual who by his words andactions brought more to our Craft than many others. This per-
son was the writer Rudyard Kipling. Some of his works in-
clude Jungle Book, Captains Courageous, and The Man
Who Would be King.
The year was 1885 and the place India where Kipling would
become a member of Lodge of Hope and Perseverance #782.
Kipling wrote that he was made a Mason by dispensation
(being underage) because the Lodge was in need of a good
Secretary. At the Lodge he meets Muslim, Hindus, Sikhs, and
Jews. Kipling writes that he was entered by a Hindu,
passed by a Mohammed and raised by an Englishman.
They met on the level and the only difference anyone would
notice was at banquet when some of the Brethren could not eat
certain foods based on religious beliefs. I find this to be pretty
profound. Here are a group of men from different backgrounds
coming together for a common belief in Masonry. Would not
the world be a better place if things were still that simple?
Kiplings belief in Masonry reflects greatly in his writing. First
are his poemsThe Mother Lodge and Banquet Night
which are wholly Masonic, then there are his Masonic-based
stories such as The Man Who Would be King and Kim.Kipling never hesitated to include Masonic suggestions in any
of his writings.
For Kipling there seems to be a quality within Freemasonry
that appeals to him. His biographer writes Freemasonry with
its cult of common actions, its masculine self-sufficiency, its
language of symbols, provides him with a natural setting for his
social ideals. Brethren, Kipling was a Craft Mason who
practiced what he had learned in the Lodge. Maybe we should
also practice the lessons of Freemasonry and make ourselves
better men
If you havent seen the movie The
Man Who Would be King based on
Kiplings book, I would recommend
that you get a copy for your viewing
enjoyment.
From the Secretarys Desk
W Hank DeBerryHello again Brothers! It is that time of
year again when I have the distasteful duty of send-ing out over-due dues notices to those Brothers whohave either forgotten or are unable to pay their dues.Brothers, when you signed your petition, there was asection on the petition that stated that if you wereelected to receive the degrees of Freemasonry, youwould promptly pay your dues before the end of theMasonic year. That year ended on the 27th of De-cember last year and all dues were payable at thattime. To date we have 48 Brothers that have notpaid their 2013 dues and that means we are$4800.00 short at this time. Brothers, your dues areneeded to keep this Lodge running and keep thelights on. Also, the contribution to the MasonicHome for those same Brothers comes to $340.40.
This money is needed to help run the MasonicHome which is Your home. We are a dying frater-nity Brothers, if you dont step up and help out, wewill be gone. I was told today that there are only 40-50 Masons in the entire state of Florida because thatis who you see at all the functions around the state. The same people all the time.
As you all have been informed, there hasbeen a horrendous disaster in Oklahoma. The Lodgein Moore, Oklahoma was leveled by an EF5 tornado.Living in Florida, we too, are subject to Mother Na-tures wrath in the form of hurricanes, so we should
know what those Brothers are going through. TheBrothers in that Lodge need our help so please whenyou are asked, give as generously as you are able.
I was very pleased to see the 16th MasonicDistrict Degree team come to Leesburg Lodge andput on the Rusty Nail Degree on May 18th. Theydid a fantastic job and it was most informative, evento an old war-horse. Pictures on page 16.
There is much information that is needed toget out to all the Brothers of the Lodge and I urgeyou all to come to Lodge and find out what is hap-
pening. We would like to have a full house all thetime in Lodge but sadly that hasnt been the caselately. We have solved the termite problem and areworking on the air conditioning problem, so now wemove on to other issues. Come out and help ussolve them.

GRAND MASTER
DISCOURSEFunerals
Dear Brothers:
I want to thank all the Brothers that religiously
participate in the funeral services of our departed Broth-
ers and although I have always believed that as Masons we
must be part of the Masonic services for a departing
Brother, and even though I have taken part in many, it has
never been more evident to me than in recent days the
importance of our assistance in such services representing
Masonry and demonstrating to the families that he was
one of ours and that we deeply loved our Brother and
will surely miss him.
Often times these Brothers for reasons known
to them, have separated themselves from the Craft andthey may not be known to the Lodge Brothers although
members of the same Lodge, sometimes is for a sojourn-
ing Brother that we have not met, but was a long standing
member of the Craft that may have moved into our area.
Today, I find myself with a very short cable tow
and not able to attend some of the services of our be-
loved Brothers due to conflicting schedules that cannot be
postponed or rearranged, and I wonder how many more
Brothers have found themselves in the same situation and
their hearts have been torn because of their inability to be
there for their departing Brother.
Think for a minute of your closest friend and
Brother departing and you living miles away perhaps in a
faraway city or even in another state, and you cannot be
there to pay your final respects, although you may raise
your voice to the heavens above in solemn prayer for
those you loved, you still feel the pain of not being there
physically to pay your respects.
Now you wonder were the services fitting this
great Brother, did he have Masonic Funeral Services, was
proper respect given, did the local Brothers attend his
service, was he sent home with dignity and with honor,
was the Family of the Brother, more importantly the
widow given comfort, was a lending hand offered to the
bereaving family.
My Brothers this single act of selflessness is
probably Masonry at its best, and although sometimes we
take small things for granted this is probably one of our
most important undertakings. This ceremony of respect
for our departed Brother is one of Masonrys most beau-
tiful and solemn services. Listen to the words and it will open your
hearts and minds and expose your senses to the beauty of Ma-
sonry and the love of disinterested friends and Brothers that are
just there because the departed was one of us and we valued his
commitment, service and love to the Craft.
In a world where I come first, WE need to stand ready to
demonstrate that WE care for our fellowmen and particularly our
Brothers and their family more especially in their time of need. That we at the local level wherever that may be stand ready and
committed to stand up and do our part, and that no Brother will
leave this earth without the proper ceremony and representation
from the local Brothers and the offering of our assistance to the
family in their time of need. This is a commitment that we must
make that we may not only ease the pain of the Family by our
demonstration of Love for their beloved and departed family mem-
ber, but for those Brothers that could not make it due to distance
and conflicts which make their travel impossible, so that when they
hear from the Family and friends about the Masons that there
words are of reverence for work well done. From my perspective it pains me not to be able to pay my
respects to those I have known and are dear and near to my heart,
I pray the Lord will fill the hearts of those nearby that they will
help me and many others by taking our places among those cele-
brating the life of our departed Brothers and send them off to Thy
Lodge on High in a manner fitting for a Master Mason and Beloved
Brother.
For those of you that have taken this work to heart, you
are the salt of the earth and although not always said it is greatly
appreciated by more than you can ever imagine. I am confident
that your rewards are in heaven for bringing comfort with your
words and presence to so many families. For those of you that
have not participated before I will tell you that there is nothing
more rewarding and encourage you to make it your commitment
to attend as many as possible and become involved yourself.
This is heavenly work here on earth make sure you are
part of the comforting feeling you deliver the family when a large
group of Brothers present themselves in a demonstration of Love
for their Beloved Family member and more specially our Brother.
Respectfully and Fraternally Submitted, I remain your most humble
servant

Brothers, As a community service we have agreed to park a 53 foot trailer in our parking lot and it will
remain there until it is filled and then it will be going to Moore, Oklahoma. As this is going to press,
the people of Moore are again being threatened by deadly tornadoes. It is imperative that we help them
as much as possible. There are pictures of the truck and one of Bro. Paul Fullerton and his wife
Lindsey, who will be driving the truck and staying until it is unloaded. They are hoping for an escort
of Widows Sons riders. - Editor-

Boy Scout Troop 1 News
Brother Dean Sever, Organizational Rep
Jaime Velez, Scoutmaster
May was a busy month for Community Service. May 18th
the Troop did a trash clean up at Lake Griffin State Park helping the State
prepare new campsites. On May 25th , was the Lodge Highway cleanup
where we had 4 Scouts plus 4 of our 261 Brother Masons show up and
participate, removing 15 bags of trash from the highway assigned to usweighing approximately 180#. Beautiful weather, great exercise, a good
cause and great PR for the Lodge. Brother Sever furnished Oscar dough-
nuts to get started and WM:. Angelos made coffee, juice plus furnished
some Danish. After the cleanup, WM:. Angelos made his excellent An-
gelos grilled cheese sandwiches for all to enjoy and not a crumb was left.
This was brother Severs last highway cleanup for Lodge 58, Junior Dea-
con Brother Jeff Lamb graciously agreed to take on that responsibility and
take the necessary State training course. The next clean up should be in
August.
The Troop meets every Monday in the Lodge dining area at 7
pm and Brothers of the Lodge are always invited to drop in. There are no
meetings following a weekend camping trip, Mondays with school exams
or on Mondays that are National Holidays. If you are aware of any boysthat might be interested in Boy Scouting age 10-17 bring them along.
Boy Scouting has made the news a lot lately relative to allowing
gay youth in the Scouting program. Boy Scouting, founded on Masonic
principles, has had only three requirements from its inception that appli-
cants affirm a belief in a God, are male and met the age requirements of
the various programs. The Boy Scouting program was formed to develop
good young males and make them better. Otherwise any male was al-
lowed to be considered for membership by the Troop Committee after
submitting an application and paying the fees. The question of homosexu-
ality was not normally even mentioned, it was a dont asked dont tell
type scenario. Recent changes now will not allow the Committee from
rejecting an applicant if he indicates he has homosexual tendencies and
wants to openly follow that lifestyle. Adult leadership will still be held to
the pre-existing standards, that requires 2 deep leadership, male or female,
who do not mentor perverse moral, ethical, religious or illegal principles,
have completed necessary training in the areas they function and are over
age of 18 therefore precluding outward homosexuals in Leadership roles.
I am sure the issue with the adults will be the next issue the Media will
pursue. As a Sponsor, Leesburg Masonic Lodge No. 58 which holds the
Charter for Troop 1, does have the right to drop the Scout Program at such
time it does not met the standards we wish to portray as Masons. I cur-
rently know of no problems with this issue within our Troop, Scouts or
Scouters. This change was brought about as usual by a small minority and
media looking for negatives.
Our Marshal, Brother Cy Stearns, will be taking over my posi-tion as Boy Scout Troop Charter Organizational Rep effective mid June.
Brother Stearns is now on the Troop committee and has completed all
necessary Training requirements and is an experienced Scouter. I will be
moving to Pinellas Park the later part of June and unable to continue work-
ing actively with the Troop, I will assume Cys committee position until
the end of the year and be able to help in a small way by email etc.
The Troop will be in summer camp the week of June 9 to 15 atCamp LaNochee in Paisely.
Rainbow Assembly 79 News
Mom Debbie Dyer - Mother Advisor
This is a great time of year for us girls, I guess you could say we lovethe spring. Mt Dora Assembly celebrated the founding of Rainbow
by attending Central Christian Church in Mt Dora where we pre-sented Mrs. Connie Elmore with flowers from the Assembly. Wewent bowling and had pizza that afternoon, everyone had a greattime and Aunt Tina was amazing when she picked off a split. It wasthen time for the annual Bahia Shrine Circus. We had a blast sellinginflatable animals and balloons at the circus, while Uncle Warrenlearned the fine art of cotton candy making; he was very sweet andsticky by the end of the day. It was delicious, but some of us ate toomuch cotton candy, we wont mention any names Natasha andEmily, but two of our younger girls had quite the sugar buzz. It wasa great weekend as we sold most of everything the Shrine had pur-chased for our group to sell.yeah!
In the beginning of May, our Assembly held an Initiation, where wewelcomed two new girls, Autumn & Emilia. Everyone did a great
job and we much appreciated the assistance from Ocala & LargoAssemblies and our Majority Girls. We also attended Ocala Assem-
bly meeting for the annual Grand Cross announcements. We arevery pleased that Tiffany and Uncle Terry will be receiving theirGrand Cross of Color at Grand Assembly. We also traveled to Wil-lie Wonkas candy factory, the theme for our annual Silver Tea.
Ocala Assembly did a great job honoring our Districts Grand Offi-
cers, and we especially enjoyed the chocolate fountain and meetingMr. Wonka (aka Mr. David McConnell).
In addition to our travels, we have been working on our banner, bagsand chair covers for Grand Assembly, which is fast approaching. We also held our Installation of Officers, where Amber Sode wasinstalled as Worthy Advisor. Her term is appropriate Lifes a
Beach, since we are approaching summer. Amber has selectedSave the Turtles as her service project, so the girls will spend a day
cleaning up a beach sometime in July.
We are pleased that our college girls are now home for the summerand it is wonderful to see their shining faces. Good thing they arehome, as we expect to have a busy summer. We hear that LakeCounty will be plagued with pink birds, so well need their expert
help controlling the flocks!

A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanging,it is the skin of a livingthought and may vary in col-our or content according tothe circumstances and time
in which it is used.
-Oliver Wendell Holmes-
Words, they can be loving, kind, hateful or
spiteful. Their use depends on you and your
character. Are you a person who praises or one
that condemns? Can you speak to a person and
not at them? We all have these traits in ourselves
and only have to look in a mirror to see what oth-
ers see in us. I have to look at myself in the mir-
ror daily and tell myself, you are going to be bet-
ter today than you were yesterday. It doesnt al-ways work but I always try. Can you say the
same as a Brother Mason? Can you look yourself
in the mirror and say at the end of the day, I
made a difference, I said a kind word and made
someone else feel special. We are humans after
all and make mistakes but if we use reason and
think about how it will make someone else feel,
will we still say the things that make them feel
bad.I know that I have said hurtful things in
my life and spoken without care at times but now
I feel that as a Mason I should stand a bit taller
and speak a bit kinder to people around me. This
is what Freemasonry is, at its heart. The love of
a Brother for another and the love of our Frater-
nity, because we are taught that as Masons we
will meet on the level, act by the plumb and part
upon the square. This is the challenge each of usfaces daily. Can we meet that challenge head-on
or will we continue to say things that hurt our-
selves and others. Be a Mason everyday and act
as an example for others to follow. You will feel
better about yourself, I know when I am acting
like a Mason I do.
