LexisNexis is also supporting the following SLA Division programs and educational sessions:

Just Say NO to Aimlessness! Strategic Leveraging of Social Media Content Monday, June 10, 8 a.m.

The goal of any successful social media initiative for a public or private organization is to create useful output that benefits the organization and the contributors using these platforms. Learn how to assemble attractive and fun social media environments that stimulate strong participation, effective knowledge sharing, and customer feedback that can finally bridge the communication gap between the organization and its clients or customers. The SLA Knowledge Management Division brings you speakers Ethel Salonen (The MITRE Corporation) and Cheryl Yanek (Catalyst, Inc.).

Spotlight Session! Practitioner Picks: Best CI Techniques in Legal, Science and Finance Tuesday, June 11, 7:30 a.m.

The SLA Competitive Intelligence Division will bring you competitive intelligence practitioners from three industries to share the top tool or technique they use to gather and analyze information or report intelligence to their clients. Learn how unique approaches suit different industries, whether they are advanced methods, case studies or best practices. Moderator: Craig Fleisher (Aurora WDC). Speakers: Anne Herron (Allis Information Management), Alex Ilg (Morgan Stanley), John Jackson (Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan) and Barbara Wilson.

Plus LexisNexis speakers will participate in these educational programs:

Patent Research: The Next Level Saturday, June 8, 8 a.m.

Patents mean big business! In fact, Google bought Motorola just to acquire its patents. But how many of us know what a patent is or what makes something patentable? In this expanded version of the popular Patent Research 101 presentation, Maria Kreiser (USPTO) and Chris Vestal (LexisNexis) will show participants how to define a patent, explain the opportunities for librarians in patent research and label the different parts of a patent. After the basics, we’ll move to the next level and expose students to free and commercial resources to use in patent research, explain different patent classification systems, demonstrate advanced research techniques for prior art research, and explain how to determine if a patent is enforceable. NOTE: Bring your laptop! Dedicated Internet access will be provided for this session.

Different Hats: Librarians in the Federal Government Sunday, June 9, 11:45 a.m.

Where are we going from here? In this panel discussion, Blane Dessy (Library of Congress), Jessica Hernandez (FDA) and Marie Kaddell (LexisNexis) will share information about the trends they see emerging in their respective workplaces and how these trends will change the role of librarians.

See you in San Diego!

*No purchase necessary. You must be a legal resident of the 50 United States and 18 years or older. Sweepstakes dates June 9 – 11, 2013. For complete rules, go to LexisNexis Booth #1106.

New Public Records search pinpoints current assets

What do they really own? Now you can confirm the existence of a person’s current real assets—quickly and with one LexisNexis® Public Records search.

Look for the Public Records Current Asset Report (People) now available via your Public Records subscription for Lexis Advance®, lexis.com® or nexis.com®. This report is not available to all LexisNexis subscribers. Please contact

your LexisNexis account representative with questions.

Current Asset Report (People) searches across the LexisNexis Public Records offering and then provides information on the assets an individual currently owns including Real Property Records and FAA Aircraft.

(If you have a “permissible use”1 to view the information under current law, you can also view a person’s current watercraft registrations and motor vehicle registrations.)

Enter the target’s name and identifying information. You can use the LexisNexis Public Records search-refining features you’re familiar with, like age range and requesting alternatives spellings and nicknames. It’s a great way to uncover assets and: • Confirm ownership and value of assets during due diligence. • Determine if parties can pay for damages during early case assessment. • Confirm or deny the existence of any real assets during the course of litigation. • Uncovering joint assets that may have been acquired without the other party’s knowledge during divorce proceedings.

Search Tip: Only those assets titled in the name being searched will appear in the Current Asset Report (People) results. Consider searching the name of a spouse, relative or other individual residing at the address with your target to determine if they own the assets as well.

Included with the real property overview listed in the Current Asset Report (People) is an Automated Valuation Model (AVM) that provides an estimated market value for single-family, condominium, townhouse and planned unit development (PUD) properties. Plus find comparable as well as area sales values.

For additional information about Current Asset Report (People), including additional search tips, contact your LexisNexis account executive or your LexisNexis Librarian Relations Consultant.

1 You can select a permissible use, e.g., litigation, law enforcement, etc., when you select LexisNexis Public Records.
