Dear Distinguished Aggies: It is my honor to offer congratulations to the Washington, DC chapter of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Inc. The DC Chapter is a treasured jewel in our National Alumni organization, having represented North Carolina A&T State University in your community for nearly 67 years. The DC Chapter has played an influential role in the affairs of government, relationships with other HBCUs, community & leadership development and most importantly the continued support of our beloved alma mater. The leadership and membership of your chapter are trailblazers, never asking permission to do what is needed to move our association forward. The association is thankful for works of former National Presidents Gerald Williams, Pamela Johnson, John Petty, Eugene Preston Jr, and countless others who rose through the ranks of the DC Chapter. Moreover, through your leadership, there has been unwavering support for the continued evolution of our association. It is obvious that the DC Chapter has recognized that the status quo is no longer acceptable, but significant change is needed to move our association forward. We offer special thanks to the 3rd class of inductees into the Chapter’s Hall of fame and their families for their commitment to our Alumni Association, and the contributions they have made to their communities. We salute them for standing fast for nearly 67 years, guiding the chapter in its growth. We are pleased that you have chosen to join us to celebrate this momentous occasion.

We are thankful that your accomplishments from past to present have provided viable opportunities for Aggies of all ages to benefit through networking, social, spiritual and cultural enrichment. Since 1946, we have seen the DC Chapter grow from a small group of Aggies to the largest and most generous alumni chapter. Furthermore, we are honored to be named by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame as the Large Chapter of the year for 2012.

Tonight, we celebrate members of our chapter who have exemplified the high standards of moral character, community involvement and decades of support to our alumni association. These individuals exemplify the generations of Aggies who are still actively committed to the support of our association. Tonight we take a moment to honor our collective success, and prepare to move forward with major projects to raise funds to refurbish our historic chapter house and student scholarships.

Dear Aggies, Honorees, and Guests:

It is indeed my pleasure to extend greetings, welcome, and appreciation to each of you on our Third Annual Honoree Gala, “Journeying our Accomplishments from Past to Present.” Our annual gala continues to grow and I am so pleased you have chosen to share this magnificent evening celebrating the accomplishments of our distinguished honorees. I trust you will renew old acquaintances, sustain others, and make new ones. It is my goal to try to meet all of you!

The purpose of the gala remains the same: to honor past and present members of the Washington, DC chapter, to foster Aggie Pride; raise funds to support scholarships and capital expenditures for the historic Aggie House at 1810 15th Street Northwest in the Nation’s Capital.

The DC chapter has a proud heritage dating back to 1946, consistently setting the standard for financial support to the university, donating on average over $150,000 per year. Additionally, our Aggie House is a continuing source of pride for our chapter. It should be noted we are among a minority of African American organizations and institutions of higher education who own property in the nation’s capital.

This year we are dedicating more time to celebrating the accomplishments of our honorees, who have played instrumental roles in making the DC Chapter the institution that it is today. We are eternally grateful for their dedication to their alma mater and our association. Furthermore, we want to celebrate our three chapter award winners who we have been nominated for awards from the national alumni association.

My heart as well as many of you in attendance still remain saddened by the passing of our Achievement Awardees, Terrie D. Lloyd and Oreta B. Stinson. They were dedicated Aggies, tireless supporters of the university and our alumni association.

Again, it has been my pleasure to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the DC Aggie House and for the 2013 Honoree Gala. I greatly appreciate your support and encouragement.

The Brief History of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Inc.

Washington, DC Chapter

On or about October 18, 1946 a group of interested alumni assembled at the home of Earl Payton for the purpose of organizing a local alumni chapter in the Washington, DC area. The first formal minutes were adopted October 22, 1946. It was decided to call the chapter "The Dee Cee Aggies". This was later changed to the "A&T Club", and later to the present name, "The North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Inc., Washington, DC Chapter."

Among the organizers, in addition to Mr. Payton, were: Alma E. Akers, Geraldine Akers, Maryland Banner, Iva Raiford Barnes, Geraldine Exum Blount, Ethel Thompson Brown, Cecil Burton, Evelyn Marie Butler, Hattie Cherry, Ruth Signora Lea Collins, Flora Crowder, Mr. Daniels, W. H. Eberhardt, Joseph S. Evans, Jessie D. Gamble, L. Goffney, Oliver C. Harris, Edwina Faulkner Johnson, Aloneita Jones, Harold Jones, Jeremiah Neal King, J. Lane, Joe Lang, Reuben Lewis, William Little, John Massey, Wilbur McNair, Mary S. Miller, Mrs. Nelson, Leon Page, Johnny Ponds, James Richards, Anne Rogers, James Ruffin, Edward and Fanny Sebastian, Julia Snead Scott, Catherine Atkinson Smith, Herbert Smith, Mrs. E. Swepson, Opal Thomas, Mr. Turner, Victor Tynes, Georgia Venters, Alfonzo Williams, Eddie Williams, O. A. Williams, Emmitt and Willa M. Williamson, Saunders Windsor and Montee Wynn. Professor Bernard Lee Mason, a Professor of Music for many years at North Carolina A&T State University, when transferring to Howard University in the same capacity, became the advisor to the group.

The chapter originally met at the homes of various members but over a period of years, membership grew to such an extent that larger and more permanent meeting places had to be considered. Meetings were held at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA, the Dunbar Hotel, the headquarters of the National Association of Colored Women, the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association Building, and finally at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority House. According to available records, there was a short period of inaction which occurred by the original group. Joseph C. McKinney, then a young alumnus, came on the scene and perpetuated the current group.

The Chapter realized the necessity for purchasing an alumni headquarters as a focal point in this community. Chapter membership had grown beyond present rented facilities and program scheduling was a problem. A housing committee was appointed by Isaac Woodard, the incumbent president. In April 1963, the committee presented its first housing report which was unanimously accepted, and efforts were directed toward securing funds for the purchase of an alumni house. In September 1965, the Alumni House was purchased at 1810 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC. A mutual fund was started with $1,000 to serve as a financial nucleus for the Alumni House. During 1965, the Chapter fundraising activities were consolidated in one effort by co-sponsoring a Tri-AIumni Dance In conjunction with two other local Black college alumni associations. James T. Speight, Jr. was the prime mover in creating this new financial thrust. Others were Joseph C. McKinney, Mae Belle Holmes, Edward Roper, John Slade and Isaac Woodard. In addition to the Tri-AIumni Dance, boat rides, dinner dances,

casino nights, holiday card sales and raffles have been popular chapter fundraisers.

Much interest in providing scholarships for youth in the Washington Metropolitan area manifested in awarding two scholarships in the early fifties. The recipients were Charles D. Bussey of Cardozo High School and Willie Louise Mosely of Dunbar Senior High School. Mr. Bussey graduated from A&T summa cum laude and was the University's first alumnus to

become a General Officer (Brigadier General, May 1, 1982) in the United States Army. Miss Mosely worked as a librarian with the DC Public Schools. The DC Chapter's scholarship program served as a beginning for the National Alumni Giving Program. James T. Speight, Louise Pearson Boyd, Robert "Bob" S. Macon, John Slade, Jessie W. Barnes and Pamela L. Johnson have served as the National Alumni Fundraising Chairpersons from the DC Chapter. Ir addition to the Bussey-Mosely Scholarships, this Chapter sponsored the Leonard Gray Forbes Memorial Scholarship Fund which was awarded to Sharon Carrington, another area student. Over many years, the Chapter solicited funds to help other local students at the University and currently offers annual scholarships to Washington metropolitan area students attending A&T. These awards are made possible by the hundreds of thousands of dollars donated by alumni and friends to the university's Annual Giving fund.

This Chapter has consistently participated in a diversity of programs at the community, regional, and national levels through the years. Some of the community service activities include: visiting the Washington Lighthouse for the Blind; sponsoring the University's choirs, sports teams and bands; supporting the bands of Cardozo High and Shaw Junior High Schools; feeding the homeless at So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E) and Martha's Tables; registering voters for local and national elections; cleaning the highway through the Adopt the Highway project; beautifying local high schools; tutoring local students; providing food baskets during the holidays; sponsoring holidays parties at local nursing homes; hosting receptions to meet new A & T freshmen and their family members, organizing class reunions and annual picnics for local alumni, attending inter-alumni networking events and happy hours; recruiting students at local college fairs and becoming the founders of "Aggie Pride Month" where many selfless acts of Aggie Love are spread throughout the local area. In the late 1980's, a tradition was started by Rosa M. Beasley to feed the ladies and men of the university's basketball teams when they competed against Howard University. To date, this tradition continues as an annual event. In the earlier years, a job placement center was initiated to assist graduates in finding employment when locating to the city and currently, the Chapter performs this same function electronically via its membership List Serv. At one time, the Chapter held a Life Membership in the NAACP, and contributed regularly to the United Negro College Fund.

In October 1959, five area graduates of the university's School of Nursing saw a need to form a club of nurses within the Chapter. The first Officers were: Mable Royal Williams -President, Dorothy Chavis Jordan-Recording Secretary, Ethel Wright Crooks-Corresponding Secretary, Julia Coleman Perkins-Treasurer and Burdia Gwynn Satterthwaite- Parliamentarian. They named it TELOCA (Tender Loving Care) Grads Club. Many Chapter members are members of the DC Aggie Athletic Foundation, a separate alumni organization, which supports the university's athletics. This committed club hosts golf fundraisers and provides various types of hospitality to the university's teams when competing and visiting the area.

The Chapter has grown steadily under the leadership of several presidents. Past Chapter presidents are Jeremiah Neat King (1946), Eddie Williams (1947), James Ruffin (1947-48), Joseph C. McKinney (1948-54), Talmadge Hairston (1954-55), Nathaniel Hines (1955-56), Leonard J. Simon(1956-60), Homer L. Ervin (1960-61), Isaac Woodard (1961-65), Leonard J. Simon (1965-67), Mae Belle Holmes (1967-71), John Slade (1971-73), Maceo Hutcherson (1973-77), Harold L. Aldridge (1977-81), Warren E. Williams (1981-85), John A. Petty (1985-89), Louise Murrill-Graves (1989-93), Alfred Harding (1993-95), Eugene Parsons (1995-97), Dr. Claudette Bennett (1997-2001), Gerald A. Williams (2001-03), Pamela L. Johnson (2003-07), Hugene Fields (2007-11), and currently Kristen Rutledge (2011-present).

Five members of the Chapter have served as President of the National Alumni Association: Eugene H. Preston, Jr., Dr. Velma Speight-Buford, John A. Petty, Pamela L. Johnson, and Gerald A. Williams. Five members served as the Northeast Regional Director: James T. Speight, Jr., Louise Pearson Boyd, Louise Murrill-Graves (two non-consecutive terms), John A. Petty, and Claudette Bennett. The Chapter has a rich legacy of members serving in regional and national leadership roles. Currently, one of the Chapter's former presidents has recently concluded a term as National Alumni President and there are

several Chapter members who hold positions on the current National Board of Directors.

Many members of the Chapter have been awardees of the three National Alumni awards: Julia S. Brooks Achievement, Howard C. Barnhill Distinguished Service and Velma R. Speight Young Alumnus. While Chapter President, Pamela L. Johnson organized ten of the Chapter's National Alumni awardees to participate in a five-year donor campaign to name the lobby of the Alumni-Foundation Event Center. In 2009, a plaque bearing the individual names of the "The League of Distinguished Alumni" group was placed in the lobby of the Alumni-Foundation Event Center on NCA&TSU's campus. The donors were Dr. Claudette Bennett, Angela Brice, Ashley B. Hoover, Anthony "TJ" Jackson, Pamela L. Johnson, Dr. James R. Lanier, Louise Murrill-Graves, John A. Petty, Oreta Stinson, and Gerald A. Williams.

Elijah Thorne and James Garrett spearheaded the fundraising and donated significantly to erect a statue of the Greensboro Four on the university's campus. Several Chapter members made significant financial contributions toward this effort as well. On the statue bears the names of donors who made this historical presence possible.

In 2008, the United States of America made history by electing the first African-American President, Barack H. Obama. James R. Lanier and Robert L. McNair orchestrated an idea into one of the Chapter's most coveted events: an Inaugural Ball. The night of the Presidential Inauguration, the Chapter had its first Inaugural Ball (black tie affair) one block from the White House at the Army-Navy Club. Following President Barack H. Obama’s re-election in the fall of 2012, the Chapter again sponsored an Inaugural Ball on January 21, 2013 at the historic Army-Navy Club near the White House.

In April 2011, during a Hall of Fame inductee gala "Journeying our Accomplishments from Past to Present", the Washington, DC Chapter of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Alumni Association, Incorporated,, celebrated 65 years of making and leaving legacies of great achievements. Honored were Aggies of the DC Chapter who have made significant and personal contributions in the communities of the Armed Forces, athletics, business, education, government (local, state, and federal), health care, medicine, engineering, social work, science, law, religion and numerous other disciplines. The 2011 Hall of Fame inductees were: Major General (Retired) Reginal G. Clemmons, Rosa Beasley, Angela R. Brice, Alfred Dickens, Eugene H. Preston, John B. Slade, James T. Speight, Jr., James Stover, Robert Taylor, Elijah W. Thorne, and Jesse J. Williams.

On April 13, 2012, the 2nd Annual Honoree Gala, again honored distinguished current and former members of the Washington, DC Alumni Chapter of the North Carolina A&T Alumni Association, Incorporated for their outstanding contributions to the chapter, the university, and the world. Mr. William E. Spriggs, Ph.D., former Assistant Secretary for Policy, United States Department of Labor, and a former professor of Economics at the University, provided the keynote message challenging all present to continue to support their university and provide a beacon of hope for those students who follow in their paths. Major

General Hawthorne “Peet” Proctor, (USA, Ret.), received the National Achievement Award, Brigadier General Clara Adams-Ender (USA, Ret.), was the Dr. Joseph McKinney Achievement Award recipient, and 2001 graduate Dina K. Brown received the Mae Holmes Young Alumnus Award. Hall of Fame Inductees for the Washington, DC Alumni Chapter for 2012 were 1968 graduate Jessie Williams Barnes, 1955 graduate Marie Coates, 1942 graduate Hamilton Flowers, 1948 graduate Mae Belle Holmes, 1948 graduate and first Chapter President, Dr. Joseph C. McKinney, 1972 graduate John A. Petty, and 1963 graduate Marilyn Thorne. Congratulations are extended to 2013 Honoree Gala, “Journeying our Accomplishments from Past to Present III” awardees and Hall of Famers and their families for having exemplified what is meant by “Aggie Pride.”

2013 National Achievement AwardTerrie D. Lloyd

We pause to celebrate the life of our dear and devoted loved one, Terrie Diane Lloyd,

whom the Lord quietly called home on Sunday, March 24, 2013. Terrie was born

January 23, 1960 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to Elvin and the late James Lloyd,

Sr.

Terrie was educated in the Rocky Mount City and the Edgecombe County School

systems. She is a 1978 graduate of West Edgecombe High School. She was very active

in various school organizations and activities and she became the first Wildcat mascot.

Due to the influence of family, she chose to attend North Carolina A&T State

University in Greensboro; where she received her Bachelor of Science in Social Services

in 1982.

While in college, Terrie lived in Washington, DC with her sisters during the summer.

She worked at Georgetown University and grew to love Washington, DC and the

Washington Redskins. Upon her graduation from A&T, she began her career at

Georgetown University in the Student Accounts Department, where she remained for

thirteen years. She then accepted a position at the National Association of Social

Workers. Her passion for social work continued as she enrolled at Howard University

and obtained her Master of Social Work degree in 2002. She was later awarded the

Howard University School of Social Work Alumni Award for the Social Worker of the Year in 2007. She continued her ambition to serve people and began working with the

homeless and disenfranchised communities. This led to her employment at United

Community Ministries, Housing Counseling Services, Inc. and Residential Care Inc.

Never a stranger to hard work, Terrie held various positions at Casual Corner,

AFSCME and was employed at the MCI/Verizon Center at its inception. She also

tirelessly volunteered for the DC Chapter of NC A&T Alumni Association where she

held various positions including Corresponding Secretary. Terrie was always ready to

help feed the athletic teams and open her home to A&T students during their summer

internships.

2013 National Achievement Award

Oreta B. Stinson

Mrs. Stinson was a native of Goldsboro North Carolina, and proud member of Goldsboro’s High Class of 1976. She graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981. She received a Master of Science degree in Business and Public Administration from Southeastern University in Washington, D. C. in 1984. Ms. Stinson was a member of the Acquisition Professional Community and was level III certified in both Program Management and Contracts.

Before passing June 7, 2012, Mrs. Oreta B. Stinson served as Deputy Director, Office of the Secretary of the Navy, Small Business Programs, with over 28 years of experience in Defense Acquisition. Mrs. Stinson was the Navy’s Program Manager for the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program. She was responsible for implementation of the Federal acquisition programs designed to assist small businesses, including small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned businesses, service-disabled veteran-owned businesses, historically underutilized business zone businesses and Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI).

Among numerous awards, Ms. Stinson received the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award. She was a Silver Star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, she was, initiated in 1978 in the Alpha Phi Chapter at NC A&T SU. In the Nu Zeta Omega chapter, she held offices from Member At Large to her final office, 2nd Vice President. She was heavily involved the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s DC Alumni Chapter where she served as Fundraising Chairperson and former Vice President of the chapter. She is also former Girl Scout Leader at both Ebenezer AME and Shalom Ministries Christian Center, where she led numerous girls, including her daughter, to earn the 2nd highest and highest awards in Girl Scouting’s history. Mrs. Stinson was a faithful member of Shalom Ministries Christian Center where she led the Usher Board Ministry and was a member of the Dance Ministry.

Phyllis Wright

Phyllis J. Wright (Thompson), class of 1986, officially joined the Washington DC Alumni Chapter at the urging of Diane Brice-Williams (82’) and Ms. Angela Brice (49’). Phyllis has given her time and talents to support the chapter’s scholarship fundraising efforts such as the Quad Alumni Dance and Scholarship Raffle. Additionally, through her work in fundraising she has supported extensively various chapter membership, student recruitment and social & recreation activities.

While serving as the Chapter’s Financial Secretary and Treasurer, Phyllis completely modernized the Chapter’s financial system. Her efforts greatly improved financial data accuracy and the consistency of monthly and quarterly reporting. In 2011, at the request of incoming President Kristen Rutledge, Phyllis was named Membership Chairperson. Phyllis’s “Everyone Bring One” campaign has seen membership increase over 150% during her tenure and increased attendance.

Professionally, Phyllis has worked for the Department of the Navy since graduation from A&T. While working for the Navy, she has worked in numerous roles in the Office of Naval Intelligence rising to assume a number of high level positions, including serving as the first African American female Executive Director of the Hopper Information Services Center in 2008. With her appointment as Executive Director, she leveraged her position to successfully champion the first ever recruitment trip to her beloved Alma Mater, targeting engineers and computer science majors.

Since February 2011, Phyllis serves as the Chief of Building Services and Customer Support at the Defense Intelligence Agency. In this position, Phyllis provides a host of facility and customer support services for the agency throughout the National Capital Region.

Even with the demands of her job, she continues to mentor many young civilians throughout the Office of Naval Intelligence and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Her favorite saying, "To whom much is given, much is required."

Pamela Leah Johnson

Pamela Johnson, Class of 1991, has been active with the alumni association officially since 1993. Pamela brought to the DC Chapter her commitment and enthusiasm to support all chapter activities. Immediately, she shadowed Ms. Jessie Barnes, who was the Annual Giving Chairperson and she started asking her Aggie friends (first time givers) to donate to A&T in support of the Chapter’s campaign. Pamela has served in multiple capacities within the local, regional and national levels. Pamela served as the Association’s National Alumni President after serving as the DC Chapter’s President for two successful terms. During her tenure as National Alumni President, she instituted processes which supported the continuous operational growth of the organization. She also worked hard to ensure she and the board maintained consistent and constant communication with the alumni members. While National President, Pamela still maintained a very active presence at the local chapter level. Presently, she serves as Annual Giving Chairperson, where she has initiated goals to raise monies to support scholarships and students attending A&T. Last year, the Chapter’s goal was $250,000 and they raised $230,587.50. Pamela, without hesitation, will always ask alumni she meets for the first time for donations to our alma mater. The amount of monies she has raised through her gracious requests is immeasurable.

In 2004, Pamela asked nine alumni to be a part of a naming opportunity in the Alumni-Foundation Event Center on campus. In 2009, they collectively donated $25,000 to have the Alumni Lobby area of the center named after the League of Distinguished Alumni. Today, in the Alumni lobby, a plaque bears all ten of their names. In addition to her involvement with the alumni association, Pamela is an ardent supporter of the College of Engineering. One of her greatest contributions to the college is the Carla Macon Granville Engineering Scholarship, which has awarded over $50,000 in scholarship funding to matriculating engineering students. She is always a strong advocate for A&T and this is truly exemplified by how she gives and challenges others to give and commit to give. Professionally, Pamela is a Branch Head in the Information Technology Estimating Division where she is responsible for managing the cost analysis efforts of Operations Research analysts for the Department of the Navy. In addition to her full-time position, she teaches mathematics as an adjunct professor.

Brandon L. Bellamy

Mr. Brandon Bellamy, truly exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding Young Alumnus. While at A&T, he was a stellar scholar-leader as a member of the A&T Honors Program and its affiliated honor societies; Ronald E. McNair scholars, Student Government Association and a student member of numerous university committees. In addition to his co-curricular activities, Brandon was a committed scholar conducting research on impact of technology use and the minority achievement gap in standardized testing in Virginia and A&T stakeholder perceptions of the Focused Growth Initiative of the University of North Carolina System. Since graduating from A&T in 2008, Brandon immediately continued his education at Iowa State University earning a Master of Education in Higher Education. Upon returning to the District of Columbia in 2010, Brandon has been employed by Prince George’s Community College and presently as Assistant Director - Counselor for Student Support Services at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland. Brandon is very active in a number of professional associations and advocacy groups, including holding leadership positions in ACPA - College Educators International, The Center for HBCU Media Advocacy and the Maryland College Personnel Association. Brandon’s professional interests lies in the continued advocacy for HBCUs including improved research on shared governance and community college transfer initiatives. He has been an invited presenter at a number of conferences nationally.

Since returning in 2010, Brandon has been actively engaged with the Washington, DC chapter. He was appointed in 2011 as chair of the Student Recruitment committee by then chapter president Hugene Fields and has retained that position after being elected chapter 2nd Vice President. Brandon is very dedicated to improving the chapter’s engagement with young alumni in the area while sustaining existing relationships. Since 2010, Brandon has worked with Crystal Williams and the Young Alumni Council, officially becoming chair at the request of Frances Peppers, national alumni president. As chair, Brandon has worked to implement pieces of a comprehensive young alumni framework, and improve support for further growth of our association. He also serves on the national communications committee, Class of 2008 reunion committee and is the acting webmaster.

Colonel Harold Livingston Aldridge, U. S. Army (Retired), was the sixth of 11 children born in a loving family in La Grange, North Carolina. He graduated from what was then La Grange Colored High School in 1942, later to be named Frink High School. He graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College now North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education. He was also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves.

Harold’s military career began May 4, 1951. He served in the Korean War. He remained in the United States Army Reserves after active duty, retiring as a Colonel. His terminal active duty assignment was in the Office of the Secretary of the Army, assigned to the Army Council of Review Boards.

Harold spent his early professional years in Rome, Georgia. He was an educator in the public schools of Georgia. His career in education included teacher, principal, and administrator for pupil personnel. During this period Harold furthered his education, earning a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Atlanta University. Upon locating to the Metropolitan DC area, Harold became active in the local chapter of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association. He is a Past President of the local chapter and the founding President of the local Aggie Club. His contributions to both the Alumni Association and Aggie Club are far too numerous to mention, but are noteworthy. His contributions exemplify his dedication, commitment, and love for A&T and Aggie Pride. He was a leader, mentor, and “cheerleader” of North Carolina A&T.

He was a pillar of society. Harold was a Deacon at Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Cedar Grove, Georgia, reaffirmed at Lovejoy Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia, and later at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He was also a Past Master of Prince Hall Masons and member of Widow’s Son Lodge Number 7. A leader by nature, Harold served as President, Educational Vice President, and Treasurer of the Kohoutek Toastmasters Club, Number 611. He earned the designation as Able Toastmaster (ATM). He was also Founding President of the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter of the La Grange-Frink Alumni Association. Harold was united in Holy Matrimony to Dr. Marie Harris Aldridge on April 7, 1990. He completed his earthly journey on December 8, 2003. An Aggie Born and Bred, he was an Aggie until he died!

Claudette E. Bennett, Ph.D., was reared in Williamsburg County South Carolina. She was educated in the public schools. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Sociology in 1975, the Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago, and her Doctoral Degree from Howard University.

Claudette has been very active in the Alumni Association on the local, regional, and national levels since affiliating with the Washington, DC Chapter in 1982. She was elected as the Chapter Recording Secretary, First Vice President, and President of the Washington, DC Chapter. Claudette was also elected to the Chapter’s Board of Directors where she later served as the Board’s Chair. Under her leadership, the Board undertook and successfully implemented a major fund raising effort to renovate the Alumni House. At the regional level, she served as the Recording Secretary, Northeast Associate Director, and Northeast Regional Director. At the National level, she served on the Long Range Planning Committee, chaired the Constitution and By-Laws, Class Reunion, and Homecoming Committees, and as the First Vice President. She is the recipient of the Velma Speight Achievement Award. Claudette serves on the University Board of Visitors, and the Alumni Assessment Committee.

Claudette began her career as a Training Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau and received progressive promotions to her present position as the Assistant Division Chief for Product Development and Publication Services. In recognition of her superb performance at the Census Bureau, she was awarded the Census Bureau’s Bronze Medal for distinguished service and has earned numerous awards. Claudette has written several articles and reports depicting the demographic, social and economic conditions of Blacks in the United States.

Claudette is active in her community and church. She is a member of the Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated where she served as it Treasurer. Claudette served as Chair of the Prince George’s County Human Relations Commission. She is past president of the Mental Health Association of Prince George’s County and served on its Advisory Board; past Chair of the National Congress of Black Women, Metropolitan Prince George’s County Chapter; and is a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She is also a member of the American Statistical Association, Blacks in Government (BIG) and the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association.

Claudette is a member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, Fort Washington, Maryland where she teaches in the Sunday School Department. She is also a member of the Lay Organization.

Ms. Louise Murrill-Graves is a native of Jacksonville, NC, where she had some outstanding mentors who were graduates of North Carolina A&T and encouraged her to attend. Louise earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1973. She has given nearly 40 years of service to her alma mater and the NC A&T Alumni Association.

Ms. Murrill-Graves’ activism in the Alumni Association began a few months after graduating in 1973 and relocating to New York City. She immediately became a member of the New York City Chapter, served in several chapter capacities, and learned the importance of understanding and participating at the regional and national levels of the association. While a member of that chapter, she received the Special Service Award, was elected Corresponding Secretary for the Northeast Region and National Miss A&T Alumni (the last to serve in that capacity).

In 1981, she affiliated with the Washington, D.C. Chapter and continued active participation to serve as the Awards Committee Chairperson, 1st Vice President, President, and to receive the Young Alumnus Award. As President, she was the second female to serve in that capacity, twenty-two (22) years after Mae Belle Holmes was the first.

From Corresponding Secretary, Louise was elected as Associate Director for the Northeast Region and later elevated to Director. She served two non-consecutive terms, the second 20 years after the first, with the distinction of being the last to serve in this office before the change in the association structure which eliminated the regional level.

Ms. Murrill-Graves’ service on the national level includes Coordinator of the first Regional Director’s Caucus, Class Reunion Chairperson, Centennial Observance Committee Chairperson (celebration of the University’s 100th year), Historian, 1st Vice President, and member of numerous committees. Her national honors include the alumni association’s Distinguished Service Award (now named the Howard C. Barnhill Award) and the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) Distinguished Alumni Award. A former Assistant Actuary, Benefits Consultant and Compensation Specialist, she currently is a Senior Human Resources professional with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), in the capacity of an Employee Benefits Policy Analyst and Administrator. In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, she has earned a Master of Arts degree in Public Administrative Management, and the designation of Certified Employee Benefit Specialist.

She holds membership/leadership in several civic and professional organizations including: Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, SE Washington, DC; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (Diamond Life Member); Board of Directors, Washington DC Alumnae Foundation, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists.

Louise has used her leadership skills in planning, organizing, directing, scheduling, and implementing the many programs of the alumni association on the chapter, regional and national levels. As the DC Chapter has journeyed from 1946 to the present, she is proud to have been a part of the journey for over 30 years. She is excited about attending her Class of ’73 reunion in May and celebrating 40 continuous years of membership in the NCA&T Alumni Association.

Ruth Carter Wallace grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina in the shadow of Shaw University. She and and her friends walked through the campus of Shaw University each morning to Washington High School, where Ruth was an excellent Home Economics students and a majorette. Upon graduation from high school, Ruth decided against attending Shaw University due to the lack of a marching band and choosing instead North Carolina A&T. On her first day on campus, Ruth met Oliver Wallace, a senior engineering student from Pennsylvania. They immediately became close friends. He proposed to her during the sophomore year and they became secretly married. Ruth, however went on to graduate from A&T with honors, with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and a minor in Science. After graduating from A&T, Ruth walked down the aisle of her childhood church, St. Paul, wearing a spectacular wedding gown which she designed and created. After the birth of two daughters: Quay Ellen and Ressie Recelle, Mr. Wallace accepted a job in Ankara, Turkey where he was responsible for the design of heating and air-conditioning systems. They lived in Ankara for three years. During her time in Turkey, Ruth was an english instructor at the war college. The Wallace family over the years lived in localities including Japan, Thailand and Saudi Arabia. Upon returning to the United States, after many years abroad, the Wallaces returned to their home in the District of Columbia where Ruth taught Home Economics at Deal Junior High School and Cardozo Senior High School. Additionally, Mrs. Wallace earned a masters degree in Human Ecology from Howard University. Presently, in retirement, Ruth can be found working out in the Senior Citizen Wellness Center and assisting with the Nutrition Program. She is also a member of the choir at Metropolitan AME Church. Additionally Mrs. Wallace dedicates her time to people in need, working with Voter Registration or working on projects to help improve the DC A&T Alumni House.

Mr. Warren E. Williams graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a degree in Mathematics Engineering. He has done postgraduate studies at other institutions including Howard University and the Catholic University of America, both in Washington, D.C.

Shortly after graduation, Mr. Williams served on active duty in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. Following active duty, Mr. Williams was employed as a Mathematician with the U.S. Department of the Army from 1959 to 1963. In 1963, Mr. Williams joined General Electric as a Program Analyst where he remained until 1968. In 1968, Mr. Williams again worked for the Department of the Army as an Operations Research Analyst until 1978 when he became employed with the U.S. Department of Energy as a Senior Operations Analyst where he remained until he retired in 1997. In 1977, he was given a Letter of Commendation by the Department of Army. In 1995, he was given a Department of Energy award for Outstanding Performance.

Mr. Williams held several positions in the North Carolina A&T Alumni Association, both at the local and regional level. From 1972 to 1976, Mr. Williams served as Financial Secretary of the Washington, D.C. chapter and in 1976 was elected as Vice President of the local chapter. He served as Vice President until 1980 when he was elected as chapter President. Mr. Williams served as President until 1984. In 1984, Mr. Williams was elected as the Northeast Region Representative where he served until 1988. Among his many awards of recognition, Mr. Williams received the national chapter Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 1986. In 1991, he was recognized as a NAFEO Distinguished Alumnus.

In addition to Mr. Williams’ dedicated service to his alma mater, he is also a life member of the NAACP, a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and a member of the Hillside High School National Alumni Association of Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Williams is also a member of the Zion Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2009 and as a member of the Senior Choir. His civic associations include membership in the Potomac Springs Homeowners Association from 1978 to 1999 and current membership in the Potomac Glen Homeowners Association.

Mr. Williams resides in Montgomery County, MD, with his wife Patricia, a Howard University Alumnae.
