dAy 1: Enjoy your flight from the United States to Costa Rica. Enjoy the welcome dinner and orientation at the hotel in San Juan as you get to know your fellow travelers with whom you’ll be living and working for the next two weeks.

dAy 2: Sarapiquí and Service projectS Today is your introduction to the complete Costa Rican adventure! Enjoy a traditional Costa Rican breakfast and prepare yourself to venture into the rainforest to get to know the Sarapiquí community. In the morning, take part in activities at a local elementary school, helping with a pen pal activity with the children. In the afternoon, switch gears and learn about reforestation and conservation efforts. Venture deep into the rainforest and plant a tree that will affect this delicate and ancient ecosystem. After dinner, connect with locals for a discussion about the “Pura Vida” lifestyle! Learn how Costa Ricans view their role on Earth and their place in the human community.

dAy 3: volunteer in Sarapiquí Now that you’ve gotten to know your new community, participate in a full-day community service project in the rural Sarapiquí. Projects vary based on your group’s unique talents, but may include repainting a local school or light construction on a nearby home. While you’re there, share lunch with locals and their families as you work alongside them. Afterward, return to the hotel for dinner and enjoy some free time by the pool after your day of work.

dAy 4: WhiteWater rafting and dance leSSonS Finish up the details of your community service project, knowing that you have helped to make life a bit easier for a challenged community. After lunch, get ready for adventure! Feel the spray of the river on your face as you navigate class three rapids on the Sarapiquí river! Enjoy whitewater rafting with old and new friends on a thrilling trip down the river that is sure to be a highlight of your program. Keep your adrenaline pumping as you take part in a traditional Latin dance class after dinner!

dAy 5: chocolate making tour and arenal volcano Indulge your senses today! Take a chocolate making tour — that’s right, Costa Rica is known for its chocolate — and then spend time in the mineral hot springs near Arenal volcano! Dip into the pools and relax. You’ve earned it!

dAy 6: Zipline and hiking adventure Have you seen life from a bird’s-eye perspective? You will today! Fly through the rainforest canopy on a zipline through the treetops. Later, take a hike through the misty trails in Arenal National Park to get the best views of this famous active volcano!

dAy 7: Service and volunteer Work Begin another community service project in the communities of La Cabanga, San Rafael, and Pejibaye. Visit the local nutrition center, important to the surrounding communities, and help them improve their infrastructure. Enjoy a traditional lunch made just for New Worlds Emerge volunteers by local women.

dAy 8: hiking adventure and Service Work Locals say that when the sky was being painted blue, the paintbrushes were washed in the Celeste River. Take in the incredible color and peace of this place after a short hike to the waterfalls. Learn how and why Costa Ricans are eager to preserve their landscape. Focus on sustainability with a visit to a local farm. Serve today both on the farm and in Tenorio National Park.

dAy 9: rafting and Service Work Don’t just see the river, dive right in! Paddle hard on the Celeste River today as you pile into rafts and head toward Cañas town, where lunch will be waiting! Continue your adventure with a visit to Las Pumas Rescue Center to learn about their work with jaguars, cougars, and panthers! After dinner, enjoy some free time at the pool.

dAy 10: liberia and palo verde Enjoy some time in town in Liberia, the “white city” of western Costa Rica. Sip world-class coffee, shop, and relax into the local pace of life. Then, take a boat tour of Palo Verde National Park. Monkeys, reptiles, and birds abound! Don’t forget your camera to show your friends these amazing species! Enjoy free time with friends after dinner.

dAy 11: Service Work and conchal beach In the morning, participate in activites at the “Abriendo Mentes” program, devoted to empowering rural Costa Rican communities through educational and social initiatives. In the afternoon, work on your tan as you relax on nearby Conchal Beach, known for its brilliant white sand.

dAy 12: tamarindo beach Visit Tamarindo Beach for shopping and sightseeing on your last full day in Costa Rica! This local surfing town is known for its relaxed atmosphere and great food. Soak up a few more rays or shop its colorful streets before heading to San Juan. This evening, spend time with your new friends and fellow travelers as you view the Central Valley from the Tiquicia Restaurant, known for its breathtaking vistas. Enjoy your farewell dinner and dancing show on your last night!

dAy 13: departure Depart Costa Rica for the United States, knowing that you’ve taken part in the global community. As you fly home, reflect on the ways its beauty and people have contributed to your knowledge of the world and of yourself.

Pompeii, the once-thriving city, was buried in ash and frozen in time following Vesuvius’ eruption. Explore this preserved community and imagine living in this city moments before the volcano erupted.

dAy 4: capri and napleS Take a ferry to the magnificent Isle of Capri. Enjoy the sunshine and crystalline blue waters of Italy’s Garden of Eden, one of the Mediterranean’s must-see places. Take a boat ride to the Blue Grotto, one of the most beautiful natural sights in Italy. Ride the funicular railway from the marina to the town of Capri. Stroll through town, take in the panoramic views, shop in the elegant boutiques, and enjoy the picturesque cafés.

dAy 5: napleS and rome You can find good pizza almost anywhere in Italy, but you’ll find greatness in Naples by savoring the greatest slice of pizza you’ve ever tasted! Then explore the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and unlock the secrets of history as you delve into the cultures of the past. Journey toward Rome, “The Eternal City” and Italy’s capital. As the founding city of Western civilization, Rome is filled with historical sites and a rich story of its rise to power and fall from greatness. Get ready for a fast-paced environment with a thousand years of history!

dAy 6: rome (the ancient city) Feel the roar of the crowd and imagine yourself as a gladiator during your tour of the Colosseum, the world’s first and greatest entertainment arena. Completed in 80 CE, the Colosseum could hold 55,000 spectators. Continue your ancient adventure at the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved Roman monuments and the oldest large-scale dome in Rome.

dAy 7: rome (city of popeS) Step into the Vatican City, home to St. Peter’s Basilica and the famous Michelangelo Sistine Chapel ceiling. At just 0.2 square miles, the smallest country in the world is a self-governed province. Walk the streets of Rome at night, eat gelato by the Trevi Fountain, spend time with friends on the Spanish Steps, and experience the Italian flare for relaxation and reflection on this evening adventure.

dAy 8: florence Follow the still-standing Roman aqueducts and take in the hills and vineyards of Tuscany as you take the train south to Florence. Visit the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Gallery, where you’ll see works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Donatello, and other Renaissance masters. dAy 2: madrid Arrive in cosmopolitan Madrid, the heart of Spain. Walk the Gran Via, the city’s signature thoroughfare, shop world-class boutiques, and sip coffee at a nearby café. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

dAy 3: madrid Enjoy the shops, cafés, and street life of Madrid’s most famous square, the Plaza Mayor, which in its rich history has seen markets, soccer games, bullfights, executions, and the Spanish Inquisition. Enter the doors of the Palacio Real and step back in time to the Spanish royal family’s former 2,000-room residence. Explore the Prado, one of the world’s best art museums, and then relax with locals and enjoy street musicians at Parque del Retiro. Experience cuisine how the locals do with a late-night meal of traditional tapas.

dAy 4: toledo Venture outside Madrid for an exciting trip to Toledo. Experience a sense of cultural fusion as you enter this capital of La Mancha with its equal influences of Christian, Jewish, and Islamic culture. With its triangular city “square,” its medieval atmosphere, and its famous penchant for producing gold jewelry, take time to visit the impressive Toledo Cathedral. dAy 5: el eScorial and alta velocidad eSpañola (ave) to barcelona Journey to El Escorial, a massive monastery-palace commissioned by Philip II. Explore the royal apartments or visit the Pantheon of Kings, which contains the remains of all the Spanish monarchs since the 16th century. Take in the hills and quaint stone houses in the countryside of Spain on the way to Barcelona aboard Spain’s high-speed train.

With human-statue street performers, dancers, musicians, shopping, and the famous Boqueria Market, you’re sure to find entertainment and souvenirs aplenty. Lose yourself among the narrow streets and squares of the Gothic Quarter, the city’s oldest area, parts of which have survived since the Middle Ages. Don’t miss the Museu Picasso! Later, take a paella cooking lesson and dine on your own creation of Spain’s most famous national dish.

dAy 7: gaudí architecture and city life Enter into the magical world of Gaudí as you discover his renowned architecture. Begin with the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí’s masterpiece, a cathedral that stands as a work-in-progress, even after the architect’s death. Kick a soccer ball with friends in Gaudí’s Parc Güell, home to relaxing green spaces and a giant lizard fountain spitting water.

dAy 8: barcelona and beacheS Relax with a day of both panoramic views and sunbathing on one of Barcelona’s world-famous beaches. Take in the entirety of the city as you ascend via cable car to the area known as Montjuïc. Admire the city skyline from the medieval walls of Castell de Montjuïc. Visit the Tower of London, where both monarchs and outlaws have both spent their last days as prisoners of the state. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in the vibrant Piccadilly Circus area, where you can enjoy British tea, have fish and chips, or ride the London Eye.

dAy 3: london Imagine yourself at your own coronation when you visit Westminster Abbey, where British monarchs have been crowned since 1066 CE, and where Kate Middleton and Prince William were married! Take a leisurely walking tour on your way to Buckingham Palace for the Changing the Guard ceremony. Head to the British Museum to see the Rosetta Stone, and complete your day with free time to shop on Oxford and Regent Streets and enjoy dinner in Covent Garden.

dAy 4: WindSor, oxford, and Stratford-upon-avon Get a glimpse into a place royals have called home for centuries during your tour of Windsor Castle, the world’s largest inhabited castle and one of the official residences of Queen Elizabeth II. Next, visit Oxford, home to England’s first university. On a walking tour, follow in the footsteps of literary giants like Geoffrey Chaucer and C.S. Lewis. Relax over dinner in Stratford-upon-Avon.

dAy 5: Stratford-upon-avon, Stonehenge, portSmouth, and ferry to france “Wherefore art thou” in Stratford? Explore Shakespeare’s birthplace, visit Anne Hathaway’s cottage, see where Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway (his wife, not the actress!) are buried, and gaze upon the banks of the river Avon, where Shakespeare no doubt conjured up inspiration for sonnets, plays, and poetry.

Visit mystifying Stonehenge, an impressive prehistoric monument. Constructed approximately 5,000 years ago, you can almost feel the eerie mystery surrounding the standing stones. After dinner, board an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg, France.

dAy 6: medieval france and normandy Step back in time to the medieval town of Sainte-Mère-Église. Envision yourself as a medieval merchant on cobbled streets, or step into the shoes of the Allied soldiers as you walk on Omaha Beach and explore monuments and museums commemorating the D-Day invasion of World War II. Explore Pointe du Hoc, a nearly 100-meter-high cliff that U.S. Army Rangers held during the invasion.

dAy 7: verSailleS and pariS En route from Normandy to Paris, stop at Versailles, one of the most famously opulent royal residences in Europe. Walk the same halls as “The Sun King,” Louis XIV, see where Marie Antoinette held the most extravagant parties and galas in history, and stroll through the impressive gardens. Ride the funicular to Montmartre, have your portrait drawn by a yet-to-be-known artist, and have dinner while overlooking the city of lights.

dAy 2: budapeSt Start your adventure in Budapest, a modern cultural city and the capital of Hungary. Spend time with new friends on a relaxing boat tour on the Danube River and see some of the highlights of the city.

dAy 3: budapeSt Explore Castle Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site offering beautiful views and medieval sites and monuments. Take a walking tour through the old town, and stroll the cobbled streets and squares. Visit Matthias Church, where the last two Hungarian kings were crowned. Ascend the tower for a magnificent view over the city and spend the afternoon with new friends exploring the area around the Royal Palace.

dAy 4: budapeSt Begin your day in Heroes’ Square, home to the Millennium Monument, built in 1896 to commemorate the 1,000-year anniversary of Hungary’s history. Find inspiration at the Museum of Fine Arts, with an impressive collection including works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Manet, and Picasso. Admire St. Stephen’s Basilica, the largest church in the country, which took over 50 years to build, and see Hungarian Catholicism’s most cherished and unusual holy relic, Stephen’s preserved right hand.

dAy 5: budapeSt, aquincum, and vienna Journey outside the city center to Aquincum, the remains of a Roman town. Imagine what life was like as you walk among the ruins of temples, shops, baths, and houses. Leave Hungary and journey to Vienna, Austria’s historic and scenic capital city. Take a walking tour through Old Vienna, and see highlights of the city including Figarohuas, where Mozart once lived.

dAy 6: vienna Be amazed by the Habsburg legacy at the Hofburg, the royal family’s 2,600-room palace. It’s like traveling back in time as you explore this city within a city, including the Imperial Apartments, the crown jewels, and the sleek Lipizzaner Stallions at the Spanish Riding School. Watch as their trainers put them through their paces in a show that hasn’t changed in four centuries. (Subject to availability and performance schedule.) Ascend the spire at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, one of the greatest Gothic structures in Europe, and take in the spectacular views of the city. After dinner, relax at Prater Park, the city’s classic amusement park, and enjoy the world-famous Riêsenrad Ferris wheel.

dAy 7: vienna Not only is Vienna full of beautiful architecture and history, but it’s also one of the most hip and foward-thinking cities in Europe. Start your day with visits to Karlskirche, a richly eclectic Baroque masterpiece, and the Palaces and Gardens of the Belvedere. Enjoy free time and shopping in Vienna for the remainder of the day. After dinner, check out the brand new Haus Der Musik, where you can compose your own melody or even hold the baton and conduct the Vienna Philharmonic.

dAy 8: vienna, telc, and prague Tour the 1,441-room Schönbrunn Palace, the imperial summer palace during Maria Theresa’s 40-year reign and the scene of great ceremonial balls, lavish banquets, and fabulous receptions. Some lucky guests even saw performances by a 6-year-old Mozart. On the way to Prague, stop in Telc, a town at the midpoint of the old King’s route from Vienna to Prague. Telc is the best-preserved Renaissance town north of the Alps, and was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1993. Enjoy lunch in the town center and time to shop or explore. Continue to Prague, one of Europe’s most beautiful and unique capital cities.

dAy 9: prague Spend your day exploring Prague. Start in the Little Quarter, make your way across Charles Bridge to the winding alleys of Old Town, and end up in the Jewish Quarter. Along the way, meander through the city’s historical buildings, see the grand astronomical clock, climb Old Town Hall Tower for a panoramic view of the city, and stop for shopping at the charming craft and trinket stalls.

dAy 10: prague Visit the Prague Castle complex, which encompasses dozens of houses, towers, churches, courtyards, and monuments. Stroll along the Golden Lane, a picturesque street of tiny 16th-century houses built into the castle fortifications, before visiting the Royal Palace, where Bohemian kings and princes resided for more than 700 years. Conclude your day at Sternberg Palace, housing the National Gallery’s collection of European art, including works by El Greco, Rembrandt, Monet, and Ribera.

dAy 7: xi’an (archaeology and artS) Imagine yourself as a peasant digging a well, when you suddenly unearth the greatest archeological find of the 20th century. A true story, the Terracotta Warriors were unearthed by accident! Take in the thousands of life-sized, ceramic soldiers that were once buried in a tomb commemorating the military achievement of Qin Shi Huang. In the afternoon, volunteer at the Dandelion School, a middle school devoted to the education of children from some of Beijing’s migrant families. Activities might include teaching and singing songs in English, followed by students performing in a talent show at the end of the day. Afterward, enjoy a dinner of authentic Peking duck.

dAy 4: beijing and Service at the migrant children’S foundation Visit with a local family during a rickshaw tour of a hutong, a unique community centered on a small street between two courtyards. Next, explore the Temple of Heaven, an enormous park and altar to Heaven directly to the south of the Forbidden City. Spend your afternoon volunteering at the Migrant Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to enrich the lives of disadvantaged children in China. Share life experiences and teach basic English in an under-resourced school in Beijing. By giving your time, you will give migrant children the opportunity to meet people and explore ideas they wouldn’t necessarily find in their day-to-day lives. End your day with a spectacular acrobat show.

dAy 5: the great Wall of china and Service activity Hike and explore the Great Wall of China, one of the original wonders of the world and a place you must visit during your lifetime. In the afternoon, visit the Summer Palace, the grandest imperial playground in China. Take a boat ride on the lake and stroll along Suzhou Street, which is filled with interesting shops.

dAy 7: beijing and claSSeS at the gift of hope Learn local Chinese phrases at a Mandarin language lesson. Visit the Beijing Shichahai Sports School, established in Beijing in 1958 as one of China’s main facilities for training young athletes. On a tour of the facility, watch future Olympians train and master their craft in sports such as gymnastics, table tennis, and taekwondo. Relax with friends at a dynamic kung fu show. Take traditional Beijing art classes at the Gift of Hope, a social enterprise that is operated by disabled people. The organization teaches skills that are based on Beijing folk art. You will attend a workshop and learn skills such as making lanterns, cloth art, or traditional paper cutting.

dAy 8: Service at the huiling School and beijing Volunteer at Huiling School, dedicated to providing round-the-clock care for mentally handicapped students ages 12 to 26, in a family style setting. The school is breaking new ground in China with its therapeutic approaches. See the Yonghe Gong (Lama Temple) and stroll along Wangfujing Dajie, the grandest shopping area in Beijing. Conclude your exciting experience in China with a gala dinner.

Visit the historic Presbytere, which formerly served as residence of the Capuchin monks and a courthouse, and today is part of the Louisiana State Museum. Afterward, kick up your heels with dinner entertainment by a Cajun band, and dancing lessons.

dAy 3: garden diStrict and french quarter Continue your work while getting better acquainted with your new friends, as well as the hard-working families you’ll be helping. You and your group will work as a team to build houses from the ground up, and homes are at all stages of the construction process. Each morning, you will be assigned a task related to your building project. In the afternoon, take a Garden District walking tour. Later, have a relaxing dinner and enjoy an evening of shrieks and screams on a Historic Haunted Tour of the French Quarter. Explore the Mezquita-Catedral, which was originally built as a mosque and later transformed into a Christian cathedral. Marvel at the hundreds of carved arches, pillars, and mosaics that fill this 1,200-year-old building. Reykjavik is steeped in history and many believe it to be the site where Norsemen first settled the country over a thousand years ago. Start your adventure by relaxing in the steaming waters of Iceland’s legendary Blue Lagoon. The waters of this geothermal spa attract people from around the world, as they are said to have healing powers!

dAy 3: thingvellir, gullfoSS, and geySir You might feel the earth quake as you stand in Thingvellir National Park, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. See an enormous gorge caused by the continental shift while you explore this natural phenomenon. The area has been preserved for its geological importance, as well as the fact that it was home to Iceland’s parliament. Continue your adventure at Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, an astounding waterfall, that from certain angles, seems to disappear into the middle of the Earth. Be amazed at The Great Geysir, the inspiration for our English word “geyser,” which shoots water as high as 230 feet into the air, roughly twice as high as Old Faithful!

dAy 4: language claSSeS and mijaS Explore Hverageroi, a small town in Iceland’s Hengill central volcano area. Known for greenhouses heated by natural hot springs, this beautiful and charming town will draw you in. Afterward, feel your heart race alongside an expansive network of waterfalls at Selfoss. Conclude the day’s adventure at Landmannalaugar, in the heart of Iceland’s highlands. Hike along colorful mountains formed by volcanic rock and witness the expansive lava fields of this natural wonder.

dAy 5: hiking adventure along the thorSmork mountainS Get ready for the most amazing views of your journey from atop the Thorsmork Mountains. Named for the Norse god Thor, this mountain range will challenge and reward you. Situated between two glaciers, it offers gorgeous views of rivers winding their way through the valley.

dAy 6: village life and mountain vieWS This morning, visit the village of Skogar, population: 25. This charming pastoral village is best known for Skogafoss, a beautiful 60-foot waterfall. Continue your journey by heading to Dyrholaey, a small peninsula with a wall of black lava reaching into the ocean. In the afternoon, head to Skaftafell National Park, whose landscape has had many influences throughout the years, including volcanic eruptions which gave the region its nickname: “wasteland.” Here, you can see a glacier that looks as if it were about to spill over the mountains and observe a variety of wildlife, including birds and arctic foxes.

dAy 7: hrollaugSStaoir-vatnajokull area Marvel at the size of the Vatnajokull glacier, which covers nearly 10 percent of Iceland. You’ll walk across black volcanic sand on nearby beaches, and be amazed by the stark difference between the black sand and white glaciers!

dAy 8: myvatn, dettifoSS, and aSbyrgi Study the rich variety of inhabitants at Lake Myvatn, known for its vast species of water birds. The lake, which was created by a lava eruption 2,300 years ago, showcases myriad volcanic landforms, including lava islands, pillars, and pseudo craters. Afterward, experience the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss. End the day’s adventure at Asbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped canyon and explore an area unlike anything in the United States!

dAy 2: oSlo and Set Sail Explore Oslo, Norway, a critical shipping hub for Europe and a historic city that dates back to 1000 CE. This luxurious, metropolitan area is among the best — and most expensive — places to live in Europe. It’s a financial and political center for Norway, and boasts a growing arts and culture district. The city is believed to have been founded around 1050, though recent archaeological evidence suggests Christians may have lived there before then. After spending the night in the city, fly to Longyearbyen, board your ship and set sail for Spitsbergen.

dAy 3: voyage and magdalenefjorden Explore Magdalenefjorden, an island in the Svalbard archipelago with breathtaking glaciers and spectacular aqua-blue ice cliffs. Then be prepared to yield to the whims of nature, as your voyage will be determined by ice, weather, and wildlife. Spend time connecting with nature, and your new friends, as you watch for seals, Atlantic puffins, and thick-billed murres along Spitsbergen’s warmer west coast.

dAy 4: kongSfjorden to ny-aleSund Travel up the inlet of Kongsfjorden and stare across the vast expanse of water and land as you make your way to Ny-Alesund. This one-time mining town is now a polar research center, where about 30 scientists live year-round. Observe their work and see the Arctic Marine Laboratory, the northernmost marine lab in the world. Then make your way to Amsterdamoya, where you’ll hike the tundra and explore this 350-year-old Dutch whaling settlement.

dAy 5: SpitSbergen’S northWeSt Shore Sail north along the coast and then south into Woodfjorden, where you’ll explore the inlet and its wild inhabitants. Beluga wales, arctic

foxes, reindeer, and seals live in this region of Spitsbergen, so keep watch! Continue your expedition in Leifdefjorden, where eider ducks, terns, skuas, glaucus gulls, and black-legged kittiwakes attract polar bears with cubs!

dAy 6: moffen iSland Continue north to Moffen Island, a walrus sanctuary and a beautiful example of the vast plantlife in the Norwegian archipelago. Admire many of the tundra’s 164 species of flowering plants, including purple saxifrage, exquisite yellow spider plants, and Svalbard poppies.

dAy 7: croSS latitude 80 degreeS north If weather conditions permit, cross latitude 80 degrees north, and continue your journey along the icy northern shore.

dAy 8: northeaSt SpitSbergen Welcome to the wild side! Frigid arctic currents sweep around Spitsbergen’s northeast corner, lowering air and sea temperatures, and creating a landscape eroded by severe frost. Even in summer, pack ice could bar the journey. Pass through narrow Hinlopen Strait, between Spitsbergen and austere, ice-capped Nordaustlandet. Our Russian crew and expedition staff use their considerable expertise to reach the region’s highlights.

dAy 9: expedition inland Take a Zodiac cruise beneath Alkefjellt, sheer basalt cliffs rising more than 850 feet, literally buzzing with some 200,000 nests of Brunnich’s guillemots, possibly with arctic fox scavenging below. On Torrellneset, you might approach dozens of sleeping walruses. A true polar desert, the east coast offers walks among stunted glaciers, exposed fossil fields, and tundra, where you could see arctic fox, eider ducks and the elusive Svalbard ptarmigan. Sailing between Barentsia and Edgesya, you’ll cross polar bear migration routes and may visit Sundeneset, a fertile plain covered in green mosses and delicate flowers, including yellow marsh saxifrage.

dAy 10: Sail South or continue inland Experience true expedition cruising, where plans are dictated by ice conditions and your desire to explore. dAy 11: glacierS and Wildlife If ice permits passage around the South Cape, you’ll sail north toward Hornsund and Bellsund, deep fjords with remarkable glaciers and wildlife. If your journey continues on the north and west shores, backtrack and delve deeper into Spitsbergen’s natural wonders, including a visit to colonies where hundreds of thousands of little auks nest, darkening the sky as they commute to their fishing grounds.

Prior to coming to New Worlds Emerge, he served as a founding member of the Green Adventure project, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating students about the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability. Mike holds a BS degree in wildlife ecology and conservation from the University of Florida at Gainsville.

wendy Amato, director of educationWendy Amato joined WorldStrides in 2012 and is committed to supporting the company’s mission of enriching students’ lives through experiential travel by offering her careful attention to curriculum and instruction and her understanding of youth development. Wendy holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia, and prior to her doctoral work, she served as an administrator and teacher in a K-12 school. Wendy has led multiple student trips to Spain and France and enjoyed seeing her students grow and learn from their travel experiences. Her academic experience is paired with over 10 years of work as a youth group and mission trip leader.

Ann Lefeve, director of new worlds emerge ProgramsAnn Lefeve has been working with and for students since 2003. She has served as a mentor, director of service learning opportunities on behalf of a national non-profit, served high school students as part of a unique leadership program, and studied education and pedagogy at James Madison University. In her current position, she maintains a strong commitment to providing enriching and educational opportunities for young people, and creating cross-cultural connections among students in an ever-evolving world. Ann has a BA in English and Creative Writing from the College of William and Mary.

Dedicated to the success and development of children and teenagers, Neal brings a wealth of experience to WorldStrides and the field of academic travel. Neal has served as a founding member and director of a pre-college enrichment program. He is founder of the Student and Youth Travel Association, and served as its fourth president. He also served as the chair of the Student Youth Foundation, bringing its Silver Lining Program — which funds grants for educational student travel — to life. He is also a former educator. Flights and transportation

On most programs, airfare is not included in your program fee. You may elect to book air on

your own, or through New Worlds Emerge. For optimal student care, we recommend booking

air through New Worlds Emerge. Booking with new worlds emerge: From some cities,

depending on your location, it may be possible for your child to travel with a chaperone. In

other areas, students may fly alone or, if you choose, may fly as an “unaccompanied minor”

at an additional fee. Flying as an “unaccompanied minor” generally means that airline

personnel will accompany students to and from the gate, and between connecting flights.

“Unaccompanied minor” services vary by airline, however, and are an airline service, not

a New Worlds Emerge service. All students booked through New Worlds Emerge will be

tracked through our 24-hour Tour Central office. Booking on your own: If you prefer to

book air on your own, please DO NOT book your airfare until after you have spoken with New

Worlds Emerge staff. When booking air on your own, you will be required to book your child’s

air within specific windows and to specific airports within your destination city. Please do not

book air until we have confirmed those specifications with you.

New Worlds Emerge programs seek to give students every academic advantage possible.

On most programs, we offer optional college credit through one of our prestigious partner

universities. Our curriculum adheres to the highest academic standards and will give you an

edge when applying to college. Whether you use an experience from your trip as the subject

of a college admissions essay or list college credit on your transcript or résumé, your New

Worlds Emerge program will help you during the college process.

Taking advantage of our college credit program is easy. Credit will transfer to most colleges and

universities. One credit is included on elegibile programs, and you have the option to earn up to

two more credits. At a reduced cost, this is an inexpensive and simple way to begin your college

career and make your future college experience that much easier. It is at the discretion of the

university you attend whether any college credits taken outside of their university will be accepted.

how do i enroll For credit? Nearly all New Worlds Emerge programs offer three or more college credits. If you are

interested in earning college credit on your program, be sure to select that option during

your online registration process or by indicating your choice on page 45. Please note that if

you are enrolling for Spring Break New Orleans or Career Exploration in New York City, you

will not be able to enroll for college credit. Additionally, most programs also offer high school

elective credit as an alternative. If you are interested in high school credit, please indicate your

preference during enrollment.

Accreditation

WorldStrides is independently accredited by accrediting bodies in regions throughout the

country, which verifies the high academic quality of our programs. Traveling with an accredited

organization means that your program is centered on a structured curriculum that meets

state standards. New Worlds Emerge Program Leaders, who undergo continuous training in

methods for delivering content to students, bring this curriculum to life through interactive

activities and fun lessons. Our designation as an accredited travel study program and our

relationship with highly ranked colleges and universities allows New Worlds Emerge programs

WorldStrides, its employees, shareholders, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, successors, agents, and assigns (collectively, “WorldStrides”) does not own, operate or control any person or entity which is to or does provide goods or services for your program including, for example, lodging facilities, airline, vessel or other transportation companies, guides or guide services, local ground operators, entertainment or sightseeing operators, providers or organizers of optional excursions, food service providers, etc. All such persons and entities are independent contractors. As a result, WorldStrides is not liable for any negligent or willful act or failure to act of any such person or entity, or of any third party.

Without limitation, WorldStrides is not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage to person or property, death, delay, or inconvenience in connection with the provision of any goods or services whether occasioned by or resulting from, but not limited to, acts of force majeure, war, civil unrest, insurrection, strikes or other labor activities, criminal or terrorist activities of any kind or the threat thereof, lost or stolen belongings, overbooking or downgrading of accommodations, mechanical or other failure of airplanes or other means of transportation or for any failure of any transportation mechanism to arrive or depart timely, dangers associated with animals, sanitation problems, food poisoning, epidemics or the threat thereof, lack of or quality of medical care, illness or disease, difficulty in evacuation in case of a medical or other emergency, actual, perceived or threatened epidemics, demands of outdoor or indoor activities, or for any other cause beyond the direct control of WorldStrides.

Changes or substitutions in hotels, campus housing, itinerary, activities, inclusions, or airports may be made depending on your travel dates, arrival and departure times, national holidays, and events beyond WorldStrides’ control at the discretion of WorldStrides as it deems necessary or desirable. On certain dates some attractions or activities may be closed. Should WorldStrides be required to or elect to change or even eliminate individual program components, either prior to or during the program, refunds will be given solely at WorldStrides’ discretion. WorldStrides at its sole discretion may cancel a program due to insufficient enrollment, unforeseen operational difficulties, lack of projected availability, or any other reasons at any time. If a program is cancelled by WorldStrides, the sole obligation of WorldStrides is to refund all funds collected from any registrant minus any merchandise fees and reasonable non-recoverable expenses incurred by WorldStrides on behalf of the participant. WorldStrides reserves the right to take photographic, audio, video, or film records of any of its programs and participant agrees that WorldStrides may use any such photographic, audio, video, or film records for promotional and/or commercial purposes, as well as approve of such use by third parties whom WorldStrides may engage without any remuneration to participant. Participant assigns to WorldStrides all rights, titles, and interest in or to any and all media related to a WorldStrides trip without any remuneration to participant, including photographs, audio and video provided directly to WorldStrides or through the websites in which his or her name or likeness might be used.

WorldStrides reserves the right to decline to accept or retain any participant in the NWE program. In the event a participant is expelled from the program, no refund of any kind will be made. These terms and conditions can be changed only by a writing signed by an officer of WorldStrides.

Participants will be staying in select hotel, campus, or similar accommodations at the discretion of WorldStrides. Participants are responsible for handling their own luggage at all times.

Participants understand that they are solely responsible for their pre-program, program, and post-program medical care in all respects, including, but not limited to, obtaining and taking necessary medication(s), vaccinations and any other medical care and treatment.

Schools, colleges, and universities hold varying policies regarding a student’s eligibility to earn, transfer, or redeem course credit from other accredited institutions. Students should consult their school guidance counselors and/or school policy handbooks to determine their eligibility.

Arbitration: Any dispute concerning this contract, the Terms & Conditions and/or rules and regulations concerning the program, the literature concerning the program and/or the program itself, shall be resolved solely and exclusively by binding arbitration in Charlottesville, Virginia pursuant to the then existent commercial rules of the American Arbitration Association. In any such arbitration, the substantive (but not procedural) law of the Commonwealth of Virginia shall apply. The arbitrator and not any federal, state, or local court or agency shall have exclusive authority to resolve any dispute relating to the interpretation, applicability, enforceability, conscionability, or formation of this contract, including but not limited to any claim that all or any part of this contract is void or voidable. In any such arbitration, the arbitrator may, but is not required, to award attorney’s fees to the prevailing party.

TUITION AND PAYMENT INFORMATION

Tuition Adjustments: Tuition is subject to adjustment if the minimum enrollment is not met, if the program content changes or in the event of circumstances beyond Worldstrides’ direct control. These include, but are not limited to, increases in travel security charges, government imposed fees and taxes(e.g., European V.A.T. increases), increases in airport fees and taxes, airline fees and taxes, fuel and energy costs and charges, exchange rate fluctuations, and airline, vendor, or group-imposed schedule changes or delays.

Program Fees Not Included: WorldStrides’ program prices do not include some college credit fees, passport fees, visa fees, optional insurance fees, lunches, beverages with meals, excess baggage charges, expenses incurred during free time periods, porterage at airports and hotels, transportation from your home to the origination point of the WorldStrides program and back, , overnight lodging and meals in the United States prior to departure or upon return of an international flight or prior to the start and end dates and times of the program, any mandatory new or increased taxes or inspection fees levied on airline tickets, hotels, transportation, land services, or at ports of entry/exit after January 1, 2013. College credit fees are not included in many programs. Check full description of program for details.

Transportation to and from Program: WorldStrides offers airline booking services to and from destination at an additional cost. For optimal student care, WorldStrides recommends all travel arrangements be made through its representatives. Your program begins and ends in the cities specified in your registration mate-rials. The arrangements for and cost of transportation to and from said cities is solely your responsibility. You will be provided arrival time and departure time windows at designated airports. You agree to provide WorldStrides in writing, no later than 21 days prior to departure, your flight information, arrival and depar-ture times that fall within the timeframes provided by WorldStrides. Further, you acknowledge that any arrangements for arrival or departure outside of those times will be at your sole risk and expense.

Payment Plan: You will have three payment options: (1) pay in full (2) make regularly scheduled installment payments under an installment plan established by WorldStrides or (3) establish automatic payments to be charged to your checking account at a US banking institution via WorldStrides EZPay program. If you choose to follow an installment payment plan other than the EZPay Plan, WorldStrides charges a $6 non-refundable handling fee on each installment payment following your registration, except the initial deposit and the final payment. There are NO HANDLING FEES associated with payments made through the EZPay program.

Reservations are not transferable at any time. Frequent flyer miles are not available to participants for any flights included in your program cost. All programs must be paid in full by the final payment deadline. Your

Application and Registration: All participants must submit a $399 registration deposit. Deposits are only refundable (less a $65 processing fee) if the refund request is made within seven days following an online or faxed registration, or within seven days after the postmark date of a mailed registration form. The Emergency Medical Release and Behavior Contract must be signed and returned in order to participate in NWE. Failure to return these two completed and signed documents at least 21 days prior to the program start date will result in cancellation of a participant’s registration without refund.

Limited Availability: Registrations made less than 75 days prior to the date of departure will be on a space-available basis based upon the order of the date of registration or the date of acceptance and must be confirmed by WorldStrides customer service personnel. Registrations accepted less than 45 days prior to departure requires full currently-due payment upon registration or permission from WorldStrides customer service personnel.

Late Final Payment Fees: If your account is not paid in full by the final payment deadline, WorldStrides charges a $60 late payment fee. The fee for any late payments made after any scheduled payment date is $15. No personal checks or business checks will be accepted after the final payment deadline. There is a $35 service charge on returned checks, declined credit cards or declined electronic drafts, such as EZPay.

Program Information Letter: Approximately two to three weeks prior to departure, you will be sent details regarding flight and hotel information, departure and return times, packing tips, drop off/pick-up locations, etc.

Medical Insurance: All participants are provided accident, illness, and accident-related dental insurance coverage up to $7,500 for accident, $1,500 for illness, and $750 for accident-related dental. Pre-existing conditions are not covered Any charges not covered are the responsibility of the participant. We strongly recommend that all participants purchase a comprehensive travel insurance program before traveling overseas. The program should at least cover medical and dental expenses. We will send you information following your registration regarding a Student Travel Protection Plan that WorldStrides offers for purchase.

Supervision/Behavior: WorldStrides, the Program Leader, and chaperones establish behavior rules and directions for all student participants. Failure to abide by the rules or directions may result in the student being sent home at the parents’ expense without any right to a refund. Consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages or non-prescription drugs of any kind, as well as violation of certain other rules, constitute grounds for immediate expulsion. On occasion, students may be allowed to explore on their own. WorldStrides has no responsibility for students when they are on their own, and it is the sole responsibility of those participants to take whatever actions are necessary rejoin the group where and when instructed at their own cost.

Young Travelers: Registration for children under the age of 15 is subject to individual review by WorldStrides. The decision to allow participation in a trip is at the sole discretion of WorldStrides. Travel Documentation: Every participant must have the required documentation necessary to participate in the trip prior to the date of departure, including needed identification that fully matches the name provided to WorldStrides for inclusion on travel documentation and airline tickets, and must meet any other applicable compliance requirements issued by the Transportation Security Administration or related agencies. WorldStrides provides online and customer service means for keeping the program participant’s information current and it is the participant’s sole responsibility to assure that this information is fully up to date no later than 60 days prior to the group’s departure date. If changes occur after that date, the participant must contact customer service and additional change fees might apply. Visit the Transportation Security Administration website at www.tsa.gov for more information.

In the case of international travel, including Costa Rica and Mexico programs, the participant is additionally and solely responsible for obtaining a passport or visa in order to travel. Passports must be valid for at least six months after your return date. It is the responsibility of the participant to check and fully comply with the requirements for travel between the United States and the countries that you will be traveling to or through. Visit the Department of State at www.travel.state.gov for more information.

If a participant is unable to travel due to the lack of a proper identification, passport or visa, or necessary inoculations, the standard cancellation policy will apply.

Privacy: Because the nature of our business requires coordination with various providers who deliver the travel services you request, it is necessary to share some personal information that you have provided.

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations: All cancellations must be made in writing by or on behalf of the person listed on the registration form to WorldStrides, P.O. Box 9033, Charlottesville, VA 22906-9033, must be postmarked prior to the group’s departure, and must include account number, registrant’s name, and complete address. Refunds are only issued to the person listed on the account. All refunds are issued in the original payment form that was made to the account; the refund process takes approximately four to six weeks. There will be no refunds for unused services or program features if program cancellation occurs more than seven days following receipt of your registration confirmation or initial payment invoice (whichever is received first).

Participants are expected to present themselves at the assigned meeting place and time in the assigned gateway city. Failure to be present may subject the participant to cancellation without a refund and/or additional costs related to catching up with their assigned program group.

Full Refund Program (FRP) Benefits (US domestic programs only): The optional Full Refund Program pro-tects your payments and provides a refund if you need to cancel at any time prior to departure for any reason. If elected, the additional fee for the optional FRP program will be added to the program tuition on your first in-voice. The FRP fee is based on program cost. All payments, inclusive of the FRP program fee, are due as of the final payment due date for your program. If, as of that date, the additional amount for the FRP program has not been received in full, your FRP election will be canceled. In the event that the trip is canceled as a result of or following an act of God, war (whether declared or not), terrorism, civil unrest, or in the event of WorldStrides’ bankruptcy, insolvency, or cessation of business the Full Refund Program will not make refunds and the below stated Standard Cancellation Policy will apply.

Trip price is $150 to $2,000 FRP fee is $199

Trip price is $2,001 to $3,000 FRP fee is $299

Trip price is $3,001 to $4,000 FRP fee is $359

Trip price is $4,001 to $5,000 FRP is $459

Trip price is $5,001 to $6,000 FRP is $499

Trip price is $6,001 and above FRP is $599

Standard Cancellation Policy: This policy applies to participants who choose not to be enrolled in the Full Refund Program. Within seven calendar days following receipt of your registration confirmation or ini-tial payment invoice (whichever is received first), you may cancel your WorldStrides program and receive a full refund. If you cancel beyond the seven day grace period, WorldStrides will retain 25% of the base trip price* (minimum charge of $120 if base trip price is $400 or more) if your cancellation letter is postmarked more than 110 days prior to the group’s departure, 50% of the base trip price* if your cancellation letter is postmarked 45 to 109 days prior to group’s departure, or 100% of the base trip price* if your cancellation letter is postmarked 44 days or less prior to program departure. The standard cancellation policy is based on the originally scheduled trip dates. This policy does not apply in the event of WorldStrides’ bankruptcy, insolvency, or cessation of business.

* Please Note: The non-refundable deposit, handling charges, merchandise fees, fees for returned bank checks, declined credit cards, electronic drafts such as EZPay, or late payments and late registration fees are not refundable.

Cancellation by a Supplier: (For California residents only) Upon cancellation of the transportation or travel services, where you, the customer, are not at fault and have not canceled in violation of the terms and conditions, if any, of the contract for transportation or travel services, all sums paid to WorldStrides for services not received by you will be promptly refunded by WorldStrides to you unless you otherwise advise WorldStrides in writing. Registration as a seller of travel does not constitute approval by the state of California. WorldStrides’ principal office is located in Charlottesville, VA. This transaction is not covered by the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund. You are not eligible to file a claim against that Fund in the event of WorldStrides’ default. (For Washington State residents only) If transportation or other services are canceled by WorldStrides, all sums paid to WorldStrides for services not performed in accordance with the contract between WorldStrides and the consumer will be refunded within 30 days of receiving funds from the supplier with whom the services were arranged, or if the funds were not sent to the supplier, the funds shall be returned within fourteen days after cancellation by WorldStrides to the consumer unless the consumer requests WorldStrides apply the money to another travel product and/or date.

USTOA Membership Means You’re Protected: WorldStrides, as an Active Member of USTOA, is required to post $1 million with USTOA to be used to reimburse, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the USTOA Travelers Assistance Program, the advance payments of WorldStrides’ customers in the unlikely event of WorldStrides’ bankruptcy, insolvency, or cessation of business. Further, you should understand that the $1 million posted by WorldStrides may be sufficient to provide only a partial recovery of the advance payments received by WorldStrides.
