since 1992 delivering humanitarian assistance to
four corners of the world and materializing solution-

dependent on aid, carries out orphan care activities in
regions struck by war, occupation or natural disaster.
The foundation has been supporting orphans since it
was founded with regular and periodic aid in the form
of Ramadan, Qurban, education, health and social
assistance projects. It provides regular assistance to
27,319 orphans in 39 countries and regions, including
Turkey, through Sponsor Family System it launched in

children in 135 countries and regions with periodic
assistance, and realizes scores of education, health,
accommodation, and nourishment projects. The
foundation that initiated a project to build orphanages
and opened its first orphanage MSAL Orphanage for
Pakistani orphans has built 10 orphanages in the past

orphans staying in these orphanages with a safe home
and a better future.
IHH ORPHAN CARE EFFORTS
52013 ORPHAN SOLIDARITY DAYS PROJECT (16-31 March)
As IHH Humanitarian Relief
Foundation we organize certain events
in this long and arduous journey in
order to make good deeds permanent
and to create awareness of orphans in
people’s hearts and minds. We gratify
orphan, motherless, abandoned
and disabled children entrusted to
the humanity through dozens of
events in five continents. One of the
most important events organized
annually by IHH Humanitarian Relief
Foundation is Orphan Solidarity Days,
marked each year between 16-31
March.
Orphan Solidarity Days
Statistics show that each day thousands of children are made orphans by wars, natural disasters, economic hardships and health problems. There are millions of orphan children waiting to be noticed in the world, where each year 2.5 million children are kidnapped and sold, and 300,000 children are forced into battlefield with arms longer than their height hanging from their necks. About five million children were made orphan by the American occupation of Iraq, while the number of orphan and homeless children around the globe is estimated to be around 200 million. It is the responsibility of the entire humanity and particularly Muslims to save these children who are the target of human traffickers, organ and prostitution mafias, missionary organizations, and poverty.

112013 ORPHAN SOLIDARITY DAYS PROJECT (16-31 March)
First held in 2011, Orphan
Solidarity Days are marked
annually between 16-31 March
by paying visits to countries
and regions where IHH carries
out orphan care activities and
materializing various projects
in these regions.
• Visiting the countries where the IHH carries out
orphan care works and examining the circumstances
on the ground.
• Materializing educational, health and cultural projects
and organizing trips for orphans.
• Developing relations with partner organizations in
countries of operation.
• Closely inspecting and reporting orphan care
activities carried out by partner organizations
• Contributing to development of partner
organizations and shaping a vision for future with
their cooperation.
• Strengthening relations between sponsors and
orphans through donors accompanying IHH teams
on these visits.
• Getting to know orphan children and their families,
embracing them, and creating rapprochement with
them.
• Observing psychological condition of the orphans
by psychologists and pedagogues taken on trips to
orphanages, designating disabled children if there are
any and providing assistance.
Our foundation is planning to materialize in total
200 projects in cooperation with local partner
organizations and civil society within the scope of
2013 Orphan Solidarity Days. The global event to be
organized by a 200-member strong team is aiming to
reach out to 30,000 orphan children.

CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT AND FUNDS COLLECTION DATES:

12 2013 ORPHAN SOLIDARITY DAYS PROJECT (16-31 March)
Countries and Regions Planned to be Visited:
Twenty-three out 39 countries where IHH realizes
orphan care projects will be visited by IHH aid
teams, while in the remaining 16 countries projects
will be conducted via partner institutions.
The planned projects are going to be conducted
in 39 countries and regions, including Turkey,
where IHH carries out orphan care activities.
Orphan Solidarity Days program is of great
significance in that not only serves as means of
coalescence with orphans in different countries and
regions but also helps attract the world’s attention
to the issue of orphanhood. Through activities on
the ground, orphan children are given the message
“We stand by you” in their own countries and
their loneliness is shared. The campaign plays a
significant role in bringing out projects that help
create this kind of awareness.

REGION : AFRICA
COUNTRY/REGION : SOMALIA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : Opening stationery stores for seven families
with orphans as part of development projects.
ABOUT REGION: In Somalia, which has lacked a central government for
long years due to civil war, there are serious problems with even basic
services such as infrastructure, education, and health. There is need for
permanent projects to improve living standards of families of orphans in
Somalia, where living conditions are extremely difficult because of chaos and
economic failure.
PROJECT AIM: Long-term support is planned for families of orphan children
through development projects.
NUMBER OF BENEFICIARIES: Seven families of orphans will benefit from
the project.
PROJECT COST: $10,500
REGION : ASIA
COUNTRY/REGION : ARAKAN
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : Assisting orphans at the age of
marriage with dowry and paying for their wedding expenses
ABOUT REGION : Making the family of girls pay for dowry
and wedding, which is a common tradition in Asian countries,
constitutes a big problem for economically impoverished local
people. It often leads to putting off weddings and other problems
for young girls who cannot afford to pay dowry. Families of orphans
with low income or no fixed income at all cannot pay for such high
expenses.
PROJECT AIM: The project aims to break the influence of
this tradition that has negative social impact and to assist
young girls having difficulty paying dowry.
NUMBER OF BENEFICIARIES: The wedding of 15
orphan girls is planned with the project in 2013.
