RENEWED INTEREST IN RELOCATING
U.S. unemployment is declining . Real estate values are improving. According to U.S. Census data, “migration” is on the rise. The
number of people who moved out of state or region in 2012 increased 6% over 2011.
ERA Real Estate brokers are citing an increased interest in self-directed relocation.

People in their early 20s and 30s are the most likely to have recently relocated and the most likely to make a major move in the next 1-2 years.
People in their 30s and 40s are the most likely to relocate to experience a new place.
People in the Northeast and the West are more interested in a lower cost of living.
People in the South and Midwest are looking for better job opportunities.
People in the Northeast and Midwest are more likely to be looking for better weather.
People from the West are more likely to move because they are curious about new places.
Living near the beach is a huge draw for 42% of respondents. Living near the mountains was a close second at 28%. A place with cultural offerings was also attractive.
People considering a move are primarily looking at states in the South Atlantic – Delaware, Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
The Pacific states of California, Washington and Oregon are also popular as are Western states: Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
States in the South and Midwest were not on the radar screen: Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, etc.

ERA Real Estate clients find relocating out of their local market today more attractive than it was 2-3 years ago.
63% say home buyers and sellers are
more open to the idea of moving to a new area.
48% say they are seeing an increase in
the number of people in their market relocating. Driven equally by financial and lifestyle
reasons.
