March Th March 7 Babylon East: Japanese Reggae 4:10 p.m. | Days-Massolo Center Marvin D. Sterling, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University, will present a lecture based on his book "Babylon East: Perfoming Dancehall, Roots Reggae, and Rastafari in Japan". F March 8 Dr. Cornel West: Voices of Color Lecture Series 5 p.m. | Location TBD Dr. West will deliver the annual Voices of Color Lecture Series which honors C. Christine Johnson, former director of the HEOP Program at Hamilton College Tu March 12 The Bro Code: Movie & Q/A with Director 4:00 p.m. | Red Pit Thomas Keith, Professor of Philosophy at CSU-Long Beach, will screen his movie "The Bro Code", and facilitate a discussion on how boys and men are conditioned to be sexist and dehumanize women. Th/Fr April 11/12 Faculty Diversity Conference (NY6 Schools) Faculty and administrators from the NY Six liberal arts colleges will gather to discuss recruitment, retention and climate issues around faculty diversity. Keynote by Dr. Elizabeth Aries, Prof. of Psychology at Amherst College. W April 17 The New Jim Crow: Lecture by Michelle Alexander 7:30 p.m. | Chapel The Levitt Speaker Series presents a lecture by Michelle Alexander, Associate Professor of Law, Ohio State University. Discussion & Book Club: The New Jim Crow 4:15 p.m. | Days-Massolo Center The Chapel & the DMC are collaborating to organize two book clubs to discuss Michelle Alexander’s book prior to her lecture. M April 22 The LGBTQ Rights Movements: The Past, Present & Future Lecture by Richard Burns’77 4:00 p.m.| TBD Richard Burns’77 will reflect on his three decades of work and activism with and for the LGBTQ Community. Mr. Burns was the Executive Director of the LGBT Community Center in New York City for 22 years. Career Planning Series 4:15 p.m. | Days-Massolo Center The Career Center has partnered with the DMC to offer a series of workshops to help students with their career planning efforts: Jan 31: Resume writing Feb 6: Summer Internship Funding: how to apply for a stipend for the summer (1st years, sophomores, juniors) Feb 19: Resources & tips for conducting your summer internship search (CRE) Feb 28: Alumni Directory search & how to network (attendees will be given access to the alumni directory) - JUNIORS & SENIORS ONLY Mar 6: Cover letter writing Apr 3: The basics of Interviewing All students are welcome and encouraged to attend. W February 20 Jurisprudence Law & Justice Studies Minor: Information Session 4:00 p.m. | Days-Massolo Center The goal of the JLJS Minor is to provide students with the analytical and empirical foundation to understand how the theory, practice & meaning of law stimulates civic engagement. Th February 21 Movie & Discussion: “The Prep School Negro” With Director Andre Robert Lee 5:30 p.m. | Red Pit Join us for a thought provoking conversation about the experiences of African-American students who receive scholarships to attend predominantly white prep schools. M February 25 Rhodessa Jones: A Woman for the 21st Century – The Medea Project 4:00 p.m. | Taylor Aud. – Science Center Jones will read from performance material and writings, and perform short excerpts from her repertoire and show video footage of work in the American, South African, and Italian prison systems. W February 27 Rhodessa Jones and Idris Ackamoor in “Performance Music” – Mixed Repertory 7:30 p.m. | Events Barn Jones & Ackamoor will perform varied repertoire drawing material from their latest productions. Q&A to follow. Strong language – For mature audiences only.
