Akinyele Umoja, author of We Will Shoot Back: Arm Resistance in the Mississippi
Freedom Movement, is an Associate Professor and department chair in the Depart-
ment of African-American Studies at Georgia State University (GSU). He is a scholar-
activist. Dr. Umoja has varied experiences as an educator. He has taught in secondary
schools, alternative schools, and colleges and universities, as well as developed Afrikan-cen-tered curriculum for public schools and community education programs. New York Universi-
ty Press published Umoja's recently authored book

Ron Daniels has also served as the Executive Director of the Center for Constitutional
Rights and the Haiti Support Project. He was an independent candidate for President of
the United States in 1992. He served as Executive Director of the National Rainbow Co-
alition in 1987 and Southern Regional Coordinator and Deputy Campaign Manager for the Jes-
se Jackson for President Campaign in 1988. He is a scholar-activist who has taught History,Political Science and Pan African Studies/Black Studies at various universities. His articles and
