What are the major components of the Plumbing System?

• The system constitute the following:1. Plumbing FixturesThe receptacles that receive the supplied water & allow the building occupants to avail & use the water

2. Drainage, Waste & Vent The piping network within the building which conveys from the plumbing fixtures all wastes and rainwater to a treatment facility & point of disposal

3. Water supply & Distribution Systemcarries water from the water source, street main or a pump to the building and to various points of use.

.

• The Drainage System – includes all the pipings within public

or private premises which convey sewage or other liquid wastes to a legal point of disposal but does not include the mains of a public sewer system or a public sewage treatment or disposal plant. (Sec. 205.10 NPC 1999)

• This system is often known as the DWV System (Drainage, Waste & Vent)

• The complete drainage system is composed of:

1. Sanitary/Soil Drainage

2. Waste Drainage

3. Storm Drainage

4. Vent System

HOUSE DRAIN PLAN: GROUND FLOOR

Sanitary/ Soil Drainage – the piping that conveys the discharge of water closets or fixtures having similar functions (containing fecal matter & human wastes), with or without discharges from other fixtures.

HOUSE DRAIN PLAN: SECOND FLOOR

Waste Drainage System – the piping that receives the liquid discharge from plumbing fixtures other than water closets and urinals. This piping is free of fecal flow.

STORM DRAIN PLAN

Storm Drain Plan is the piping system that receives clear water drainage from leaders, downspouts, surface runoffs, ground water, subsurface water, condensate water, cooling water or other similar discharges and conveys them to the point of disposal. All sanitary wastes must be excluded.

• The Domestic Cold Water Supply of the plumbing system consists of the piping and fittings which supply cold water from the building water supply to the fixtures, such as lavatories, bathtubs, water closets and kitchen sinks. This is also known as Water Distribution System.

WATER SUPPLY and DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

• The Elements of the Water Supply and Distribution System are:

1. Water Service or House Service

2. Water Meter3. Distribution Main or Horizontal Supply Main4. Fixture Branches5. Riser6. Valves and Control7. Storage Tanks

Elements of the Domestic Water Distribution System: Water (Street) Main – A water supply pipe for

public or community use controlled by public authority.

Water – Service Pipe – The pipe from the water main, water meter, water supply system or other approved source of water supply, to the building or structure served.

Water – Distribution Pipe – A pipe which conveys potable water from the building supply pipe to the plumbing fixtures & other water outlets in the building.

Fixture Branch – A pipe connecting several fixture.
