3.1 -‐ Describe exactly how chapter grant funding was spent. We used chapter grant funding to buy snacks and drinks for seminars, food for mixers and chapter meetings, parking permits for seminar presenters, print flyers and banners for advertisement of our student chapter and SPIE, and buy optics for youth outreach program demonstrations.
3.2 -‐ Were these activities described in your funding request? They were predicted in our previous funding request.
4 -‐ Details of planned activities for the future. To keep the chapter this active, we plan to hold various activities throughout the year so that students and postdocs at UCLA may understand how important SPIE is to them. We will continue holding seminars about optics related research and mention at each seminar your support which makes the seminar better (e.g., drinks and snacks). The research presented will keep photonics vibrant and keep SPIE a very important and relevant organization in the long run. We will also hold fun activities so that people may take a break from the laboratory, and will give us the opportunity to explain the benefits of SPIE in a relaxed environment. We also plan to hold our first ever Photonics Career Night, during which students and postdocs will network with the local photonics industry. The companies will benefit from finding high-‐quality people to recruit in the future, and the students and postdocs will benefit from the professionals’ great advice and job opportunities, so that they stay in the photonics industry and increase the number of future SPIE members.
