2 MARIAN UNIVERSITY ANNUAL REPORT

Dear Friends of Marian University,Welcome to our 2014–15 Annual Report. It seems like only a few weeks ago that we welcomed the entering class of 2019 and welcomed back our continuing students. Graduation is such a joyous event as we witness the culmination of our students’ educational pursuits and send them out into the world; however, seeing the faces of those at the other end of the spectrum — our freshmen — is every bit as exciting. The Pinning Ceremony we hold to welcome them into “the academy” is the perfect juxtaposition to the commencement ceremony.

Our 2014–15 academic and fiscal year was full of juxtapositions in that we accomplished so much, yet still have so far to go.

We all know Benjamin Franklin’s saying, “If you fail to plan you are planning to fail,”and so plan we did. We rewrote the vision statement that is the guidepost to our strategic plan: Developing potential, and enriching lives through teaching and learning — united in service for a just and humane world. We also developed strategic financial and advancement plans that delineate the goals for the university community for the next five years.

We acquired a building in downtown Fond du Lac that will become our Center for Health Professions. With two lessees already occupying the building, we are very pleased with the positive impact this will have on the downtown area, as well as the tremendous opportunity it offers for us to provide our students a state-of-the-art learning environment.

All of this goes hand-in-hand against the challenges that we, like many other institutions of higher education, have and continue to face. You have no doubt read about these challenges to colleges and universities — both private and public — within Wisconsin and across the nation.

As we look ahead to 2015–16, we do so with hope, anticipation and faith in our future. Thank you for your interest in Marian University and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Robert A. FaleInterim President

Dear Marian Community,

The 2014–2015 fiscal year was exciting for Marian’s Advancement Team. Our strategic focus was to build a solid foundation that would enable us to engage new and existing donors. The efforts were successful and I want to extend a warm thank you to the many donors who gave generously to Marian.

Your donations clearly represented your support for Marian’s Mission and Core Values. Many of the gifts received impacted programs such as the Working Families Grant program, a program that enables disadvantaged single parents with dependent children to pursue their four-year undergraduate degree. Others gave to scholarships that help many of our first- generation students realize the dream of obtaining a college education.

It is your commitment to these shared values that has us so optimistic about Marian University’s future. Together we will make a difference. Thank you.

Best regards,
