new! Junior vet lab Bring your future veterinarian to the Junior Vet Lab in the Sapakie Family Classroom. Little ones can play and pretend, exploring what it’s like to be a wildlife veterinarian caring for animals big and small. Animals here are members of “stuffed species.” Then visit the craft station to make an animal mask or personalized magnet to take home!

January 11: “wings of life” Disneynature’s “Wings of Life” is a stunning adventure full of intrigue, drama and mesmerizing beauty. (1 hour and 17 min.)

after the show: Visit the Conservancy’s new butterfly garden.

after the show: Meander through the Dalton Discovery Center and take another look at our native reptiles. You may see something you never noticed.

March 8: “bears” Disneynature’s “Bears”, narrated by John C. Reilly, showcases a year in the life of a bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons. (1 hour and 18 min.)

after the show: Pop into the Bradley Welcome Center and pick up one of our many books about native animals.

aPrIl 12: “the blue Planet” Celebrate earth Day with a glimpse into our watery world, with “The Blue Planet” by BBC earth. For 50 years, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida has been a leading environmental advocacy organization. Dedicated to celebrating and protecting Southwest Florida’s water, land, wildlife and future, the Conservancy uses the synergy of four teams to meet its mission. These teams include: scientific research, policy, education, and wildlife protection and rehabilitation. This combination of expertise is unique to the Conservancy and enjoys a national reputation for excellence.

Science and Research

Policy and Advocacy

wildlife Rehabilitation

The work of the Environmental Science team includes ecological research and monitoring programs, restoration initiatives, collaboration with universities, state and federal agencies, and community outreach. For more than 50 years, these experts have been leaders in water quality monitoring, Western Everglades restoration as well as Florida panther and sea turtle protection.

Ensuring that the region’s leaders have the tools to make informed decisions is a critical role of the Conservancy. The Environmental Policy team ensures the proper stewardship of Southwest Florida’s natural resources. The Conservancy’s policy leaders are frequently asked to serve as consultants because of their expertise in the areas of smart growth, Western Everglades restoration, water quality issues and habitat protection.

The Wildlife Rehabilitation team is continually working to protect and rehabilitate native wild animals and, when possible, reintroduce them to their natural habitat. The von Arx Wildlife Hospital is on-site at the Conservancy Nature Center and now treats more than 3,200 injured animals every year.
