Although not required for graduation (WACE), St Mary’s requires all students to complete 20 hours of community service

Stage 3 units will be given a 15 mark advantage
compared to Stage 2 units (different adjustment for
Maths courses)
Students can apply for university entrance with a combination of Stage 2 and Stage 3 courses
Students wanting a Tertiary Entrance Rank will use scores from their best four courses
(it could be that a good result in Stage 2 is higher, even after scaling, than a result in a Stage 3 course)

Ranking (ATAR) • Previously TER
• 4 best final scaled scores are added (TEA, out of 400)
• All students ranked according to their TEA
• Top 15 students given ATAR of 99.95
• ATAR ranges between 99.95 and zero
• reports the rank position relative to all other students
• It takes into account the number of students who sit WACE exams in any year and also the number of people of Year 12 school leaving age in the total population

- Choose a programme that leads to success rather than failure. Select courses on the basis of those in which you have the background to achieve success.
- A programme that is too difficult or does not cater for interests leads to loss of motivation, self-esteem and confidence.

- Multiple entry paths are available for university and TAFE. Decisions made in Years 10 and 11 do not necessarily lock students into a certain pathway.
