Plot Book Information
2014 Yield Performance and Weather
Soybean yields once again surprised many, especially for being
so short and stunted due to so much rain early season. Adams
County overall had a cool and wet growing season. Like last year,
we had too much rain in June and could have used a little more
the first part of August. Looking at page 13, our overall plot
average was the highest ever…. 68.8 bushel!!!
Most of the county did get a late start in planting soybeans due
to the wet weather. April brought over 6 inches of rain in the spring
and most of May and into June was extremely wet also.
The Adams County Crops Committee strives to adapt the
soybean plots to answer the trends in the seed market. This year,
there were 3 different Roundup Ready Variety Trials which were
split into 3 maturity groups:
Thank You
The Adams County Extension Service wants to thank all the
agricultural cooperators for their quality work on the plots. Each
year they help collect valuable yield data that is used to make
variety selection decisions. Also, thanks to all the seed dealers for
their resources. A special thanks to Chairman, Klint Moser and
Treasurer, Randy Roe for their time and leadership on behalf of
the Crops Committee. Appreciate Kurt Kuhn taking time to repair
the springs on our weigh wagon.
Maturity 2.7 to 3.1 8 varieties 3 different locations
Maturity 3.2 to 3.4 7 varieties 3 different locations
Maturity 3.5 to 3.7 6 varieties 3 different locations

Materials and Methods
Up to 3 varieties were accepted from each seed company,
seed representative or agricultural retailer. All entrants paid an
entry fee, which assists with annual scholarships for students
going into the field of agriculture. The seed was used as delivered
and were randomly planted in each plot. Also, varieties in the plot
have been noted as their treatment and if they are a Roundup
Ready 2 yield soybean.
Experimental units were planted and harvested by
farmer/cooperators using their equipment. Individual variety plots
range in size from .115 to .598 of an acre in size. The Adams
County Cooperative Extension Service obtained gross weight and
moisture data.
Agriculturally Yours,
