Madagascar

Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world.

The island is about the size of the state of Texas.

The eastern coast is covered with rain forests.

The western region is hilly and dry.

Iron in the soil makes it look red, giving Madagascar the name “Great Red Island.”

CAPITAL CITY: Antananarivo (1.8 million)

POPULATION: 22 million

LANGUAGES: Malagasy and French (both official). Different tribes have their own languages as well.
